Kodanad View Point is truly a slice of heaven! I absolutely loved my visit. As is typical of the Nilgiris, we were initially greeted by a thick blanket of mist. I strongly recommend anyone visiting to be patient and wait for some time. The mist will eventually clear, and when it does, the sheer beauty of the valley and tea estates that slowly shows up is absolutely breathtaking and a view you will never forget. It’s like watching nature slowly unveil its masterpiece. The drive itself was astonishing—winding roads through lush, emerald-green tea estates made the journey an integral part of the experience.

A must-visit destination when traveling to Ooty! Located about an hour’s drive away, the journey itself is part of the experience — a scenic route lined with tea plantations, charming little villages, and refreshing weather makes the drive truly enjoyable. Once there, you’re rewarded with breathtaking views of the mountains and glimpses of quaint villages nestled in the valley. A perfect spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike.

Breathtaking Views at Kodanad View Point Kodanad View Point is a hidden gem in the Nilgiris, offering panoramic vistas of the lush valleys, tea estates, and distant hills. The 220-degree view encompasses landmarks like Rangaswamy Peak, Dolphin’s Nose, and the Bhavanisagar Reservoir. Kotagiri Viewpoint is a hidden gem in the Nilgiris and one of the most peaceful places to enjoy nature. Unlike some of the more crowded viewpoints in Ooty or Coonoor, this spot feels serene and less commercialized, making it perfect for travelers who want to soak in the natural beauty without much disturbance. The drive to the viewpoint itself is scenic, winding through tea estates, lush greenery, and misty hills. Once you reach the top, the view opens up to breathtaking valleys, rolling tea plantations, and layers of mountains stretching into the horizon. On a clear day, you can see an endless carpet of green fading into the blue sky, while on misty mornings, the clouds drifting across the hills create a magical atmosphere. There are a few small stalls nearby selling tea, coffee, and local snacks, which make the experience even more enjoyable. It’s best to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon for the most dramatic views and pleasant weather. Carry a light jacket as it can get chilly with the breeze. If you’re exploring Kotagiri or nearby Nilgiris, this viewpoint is absolutely worth a stop. Calm, refreshing, and picture-perfect – a must-visit for nature lovers.

Kodanad View Point is a must-stop when visiting Kotagiri. The serene atmosphere, cool breeze, and breathtaking panorama make the gentle 20-minute ascent worth it. Whether you're a solo traveler or with family, the sunset spectacle is a highlight nestled between emerald tea gardens and mist-shrouded valleys. Though modest, the snack stall with juice and soda is convenient post-walk. While facilities are sparse, the natural beauty more than compensates. Do bring a jacket it gets chilly, especially in early morning or winter.

I visited Kodanad View Point on a weekday afternoon this June, the journey stole the show. The drive up is breathtaking, especially if you travel by car during a weekday when the roads are less crowded. Rolling hills, hairpin bends, and quiet stretches of misty forests make the trip feel like a cinematic escape. Drive slow — this route is meant to be savoured, not rushed. The viewpoint itself offers a good panoramic view, though it can get foggy around noon, which slightly veils the landscape. There's a nominal entry fee for 2- and 4-wheelers and some basic parking space available. Pro tips: ✔️ Carry an umbrella and wear something warm — even in June, the weather can surprise you. ✔️ Bring some snacks — while you’ll find piping hot tea, bhajjis, and a few munchies at the top, options are limited. ✔️ It’s more about the ride than the destination, so plan for a relaxed, scenic drive. Would I go again? Yes, more for the road trip than the viewpoint. Ideal for a half-day detour if you're exploring the Nilgiris!
