Brett and Michael were excellent!! The lever professionalism was outstanding. They truly cared about every person having fun and catching as many fish as possible. They had a great sense of humor and made the entire day fun. Would come back without a doubt.

These guys are the best, knew where to go and what to use to catch the fish. Taught us little secrets of jigging. Francis and Bret were very helpful in all ways.

I lived in Kodiak for many years and have gone on many fishing trips and I can say none are better than Mel.

This is THE crew to fish with! Can’t Woody and Mate Josh work harder than anyone I’ve ever fished with. Great guys. Very considerate. The boat was the best kept boat I’ve seen in a LONG time. It was cleaned every 15 minutes! They always wanted to know what you wanted to fish for. They fish Lings and yellow eyes which is not always done. They celebrate every fish with you. They grind each day until you want to go home. Oh, the fishing......my best day ever was followed by an even better day! We caught everything out there. Thanks guys for the great trip!!!

Great, great day of fishing and viewing surroundings of Kodiak waters. Quickly caught cod, halibut, rockfish and 3 King Salmon. (4 women had a perfect half day outing) We kept Captain Mel and Mate Taylor (helping us), as we were reeling them in and sharing our exuberance. The 100 lb halibut was our prize catch. Of course, we had whale, puffins, seals and wild life to view too, as they kept making an appearance.

We were one of the first adventurers of the season for Captain Mel and crew, Sam and Matt. The boat, Shearwater, was in tip top shape and equiped with all the gear to catch any size of fish in the sea. Captain Mel and Sam and Matt were very attentive to all our needs. They worked safely and quickly it showed by there knowledge of the sea. We had an amazing time, we caught halibut, king salmon, rock fish, and cod. These guys are the best! We called up Captain Mel Roe on a tip from a local fishing company, and it was the best decision we could have made for our 2 day trip on Kodiak Island. He recommended obtaining fishing licenses the day before which we promptly got at Big Ray's, only a 10 minute walk from the Harbor where his boat was moored. We stepped aboard the Shearwater the next morning, a double hulled aluminum fishing vessel powered by twin 350 Suzuki outboard engines, leaving the the port at 8am and completing our excursion at 5pm. The Shearwater handled extremely well as the day turned from Sunny clear, perfectly glassy waters to 4-5 foot swells in the late afternoon. The fish we went after were multi species: yellow eye, rock fish, cod, halibut, and king salmon. Captain Mel knew exactly where to take the boat for the maximum haul. During our excursion we also saw Puffin, Porpoise, and Humpback Whales. Captain Mel would slow the boat down and steer towards where all of the best action was. It was an exhilarating experience to say the least! The fishing was also spectacular. Intimidated at first, we were quickly coached on managing our reels and rods and by the end of the day, Nicole and I had pulled in 60 and 70 lbs halibut, winning the largest catch of the day, and that was just the tip of the iceberg! We each caught several of the above mentioned fish. At the end of the day, Mel took us back to Port where the entire haul was processed and shipped to our home address in Miami by Island Seafoods. The guy lifted the entire catch and Nicole and I shared the haul 2/5ths with the other other customers that joined us. We also got some fantastic recipes for how to cook our fish when we get home. Mel Roe and his crew Sam and Sage deserve six stars! I can't speak more highly about them. This was a dream trip come true.

We had an amazing day fishing with captain Mel! The most memorable fishing trip I ever had! We only had 5 people and got personal attention. Captain Mel knew the best spots to fish and we caught our limit on multi species! Sandwiches, drinks and snacks were provided. The crew was very personable! I loved the trip and would do it again in a second!

Went fishing with this company in 2005. It's probably not fair to give a review from so long ago. That said, fishing in Kodiak was amazing. The picture on their website were in-line with my trip.

Five star all the way! Thank you Mel (Captain) and Francis (crew) for an amazing fishing trip!! Mel was a wealth of knowledge on where and how to fish. We pretty much limited out on all varieties of fish! King salmon, halibut, rock fish. In addition we caught silver salmon and lingcod. The weather was perfect. Hope to come back next year and if so I will definitely be getting ahold of Mel!
