KOFFEE MAMEYA

Went to Coffee Mameya with high expectations, as it’s one of the most popular coffee lovers’ spots in Tokyo. The shop is in a quiet neighborhood, about 20 minutes from the Ginza area. We found a very minimalist space; the reception was a bit cold, followed by an interior area with a U-shaped table and the baristas working inside. To be honest, the coffee was high quality, but overall the experience fell short of our expectations. We chose the omakase with food pairing, and we did not understand the food at all—it didn’t match the coffee. Even though the beans were high quality, we also didn’t understand the mixed coffee drinks. Maybe our taste is not elevated enough to fully understand the experience at this very popular shop, as it’s packed every day. Unfortunately, we will not be back or recommend it.

KOFFEE MAMEYA in Omotesando feels more like a minimalist coffee lab than a typical cafe, and the whole experience revolves around learning, choosing, and understanding coffee at a deeper level. This was honestly a first of its kind experience for me. I don’t see myself as a coffee expert, but I still loved how the staff walked me through so many different blends and origins with so much patience and grace. This isn’t a sit-down cafe you come to for a casual drink it’s more of a coffee consultation space where you buy at least one cup to try or choose from their wide range of beans. There were around twenty five different blends from light to dark roasts, and I can easily see how someone really into coffee would be obsessed with this place. They make your coffee right in front of you using the V60 pour over method, almost like a live brewing demonstration. I tried the Kenya Karimikui blend sourced from the Fukuoka region, and even though I don’t usually drink black coffee, it tasted genuinely great. A super unique experience and one I’d recommend to anyone curious about coffee.

The wait is definitely worth it! The coffee was amazing. The staff is very knowledgeable and the coffee selection is very large. I had the Ethiopia natural process and it was phenomenal. When you purchase a bag of coffee they offer instructions on the best way to prepare the coffee. Highly recommend to any coffee enthusiasts.

wonderful coffee experience. you can tell that the baristas are very knowledgable and passionate about coffee. the way they set up and explain about the beans make it feel like this is a lab and the baristas are scientists, but at the same time they also give off the feeling of being artists with the beans. i came 10 mins before they opened so there was no wait, and i got a good seat (or rather, stand).

A one of a kind coffee experience! This was a rec by one of my fave coffee spots in San Francisco. This is for serious coffee/espresso drinkers - not if you’re a flavored creamer person (no offense). This is a standing, counter service only place, so be prepared for a line. They staff is helpful and will ask what flavor profiles you like to guide you. You can get your coffee served as an espresso, pour over, latte (iced or hot), and cold brew. They’ll prepare it made to order and you’ll enjoy while at the counter. It was very cool to see the intricate steps they take!

We arrived just before the opening time and there was already a queue forming. The shop is rather small so it can get a bit stuffy when there are many people, but the staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, kind, and speak good English! The coffee was decent and it was a nice experience watching it being prepared right in front of us.

One of the best coffee spots in Tokyo. Only rivaled by Mame which does omakase coffee. Mameya has incredible bean selection and the hidden menu iced coffee with milk is one of the best lattes I’ve had.

A truly special coffee experience. The baristas at Koffee Mameya Harajuku are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. They guide me to choose beans based on my taste preferences, almost like a coffee omakase. The atmosphere is calm, minimalist, and focused purely on the coffee. I loved how personal the experience felt where each cup is prepared with care and explained thoughtfully. I tried the Geisha coffee and it was stunning: floral, sweet, and perfectly balanced.
