Went to Coffee Mameya with high expectations, as it’s one of the most popular coffee lovers’ spots in Tokyo. The shop is in a quiet neighborhood, about 20 minutes from the Ginza area. We found a very minimalist space; the reception was a bit cold, followed by an interior area with a U-shaped table and the baristas working inside.
To be honest, the coffee was high quality, but overall the experience fell short of our expectations. We chose the omakase with food pairing, and we did not understand the food at all—it didn’t match the coffee. Even though the beans were high quality, we also didn’t understand the mixed coffee drinks.
Maybe our taste is not elevated enough to fully understand the experience at this very popular shop, as it’s packed every day. Unfortunately, we will not be back or recommend it.
