"On Atlantic City’s boardwalk I enjoyed Kohr’s Frozen Custard—the orange‑cream‑vanilla swirl is a Jersey Shore classic made from an old formula with more egg yolk and less air for stable, creamy custard on hot days." - Arati Menon, Megan Spurrell

Best Soft Serve Ice Cream!!!! If you are in the area this is a must! I truly enjoy coming here with my family. Whenever we are craving ice cream this is our go to spot! We usually do the chocolate and vanilla twirl - so delicious. The soft serve is the perfect blend of creaminess and smooth yumminess! Cash only!!!

CASH ONLY! But Wait! They have an on site ATM with a $3.50 fee! I used to love Kohr's; it was a must have when visiting the boardwalk, but not anymore. Just two doors down, Mr. Softee takes credit cards and even has a huge sign letting you know. I usually carry cash, but with these astronomical prices ($6.50-$8.00 as of Aug 2025) for my wife and four kids, I'd need a bank loan to pay. To make things worse, one vanilla cone was a perfect shape and swirl, but the very next one was already melting all over the worker's hands as it was passed to us. It was impossible for my son to eat. Very disappointing all around.

Family day on the boardwalk! Seeing family and great grandma wanted to bring the girls to the same place she went to when she was a kid. As someone from Texas I only knew of soft serve in vanilla or chocolate, so this was a cool treat…. Literally

It was a overcast, chilly day at Point Pleasant. The beach was basically closed and the only activities available were playing arcade games and grabbing Kohr’s.

1-Star Review for Kohr’s Frozen Custard (Point Pleasant Beach Boardwalk) Title: Absolutely Disgusting Hygiene – I Walked Away Without My Order! I visited Kohr’s Frozen Custard on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk today (July 11, 2025) and had one of the most appalling experiences I’ve ever had at an ice cream shop. I ordered a mint and chocolate swirl in a waffle cone dipped in chocolate, excited for a classic boardwalk treat. What happened next was straight out of a nightmare. The young employee scooped the ice cream into the cone just fine, but then he took it to the back to dip it in chocolate. From what I could see, the cone tipped over, and he caught the entire thing with his bare hand – resulting in chocolate smeared all over his hands. He then plopped the messy cone into a cup and casually asked if I still wanted it or if he should remake it. Shocked, I politely asked him to remake it. Instead of washing his hands or grabbing gloves, he went to the back room, pushed the ruined ice cream off the original cone into the trash (still with his chocolate-covered hands), and proceeded to prepare a new one using the same contaminated cone. No gloves, no napkins, no hand washing – just handling my food with sticky, dirty hands. It was beyond unsanitary and completely unprofessional. At that point, I couldn’t stomach the thought of eating anything from there. I told him thank you but I didn’t want it anymore, and I walked away empty-handed. This place clearly has no regard for basic food safety standards. Avoid at all costs – there are plenty of other ice cream spots on the boardwalk that won’t risk your health!

I've gone to Point Pleasant Boardwalk many times in the last 40-plus years. Every time, one thing is for certain there will be a line at the Kohrs frozen custard stand. They been serving frozen custard for 100 years! They have a lot of different flavors of custard & ice cream. People like the Orange Vannilla, Raspberry Vannilla, and Chocolate peanut butter. I opted for the homemade ice cream blueberry Vannilla. Good quality ice cream real blueberries 🫐. I enjoyed it ,the service was friendly & quick. Portions are good, from my experience. It is attached to a famous little fish & chips stand, too. That has some tasty hand cut French fries and funnel cakes. Kinda the perfect one two punch of flavors. It's worth checking out if you are visiting The Jersey Shore.

Google
Watched them fill machines with non kohrs mix.didnt even taste like custard.was light and airy not custard dense.cash only so they can avoid taxes.vety disappointed.they should take the signs down since it's false advertising and probably a franchise violation.this was after labor day,so I don't know if this practice is in effect during the season.

I just asked 2 people behind the counter... They said they are absolutely NOT kosher... So I don't know where anyone is getting that they're kosher

Yelp
I was dying to try Kohrs as I love soft serve ice cream, and was really excited to try their custard. First of all, their location is perfect. It is so fun to walk down the boardwalk to reach Kohrs, which is nestled in-between arcades, boardwalk games, and is right on the beach. Kohr's has no seating at all, and solely consists of a counter where you can place your order. I knocked off one star because of this. Ordering felt chaotic and cramped, and it would be nice if they had a small seating area, like many other ice cream and candy shops do on the boardwalk. The woman who took our order was friendly enough, but the entire process felt rushed. I knocked off another star because they only accept cash. It is especially hard to juggle a few ice cream cones, with nowhere to sit or put the ice cream down, and then also comb through your purse, then wallet, for cash. I ordered a plain frozen vanilla custard, because I really wanted to compare this frozen custard to the one I get often at Rita's. The custard itself was good, but honestly not as good as our local Rita's custard. It was thick and the vanilla was flavorful, and also had a nice smooth texture. I just had higher expectations for a place that is known for their custard and seems to specialize in it. My husband got a mango ice which was also smooth, but the mango flavor tasted slightly artificial.

Yelp
I can't leave the Jersey Shore unless I get orange vanilla custard in a cup. I made my way to Kohr's after the most perfect day on the beach. The associate must've misheard what I asked for, and at first I got all vanilla instead of orange/vanilla. I repeated my order back to him and he said he only heard vanilla. He seemed annoyed and didn't apologize. I asked for a regular size and it appears I was given the large and also charged for a large. The line behind me was long - I didn't feel like going back and forth so I paid and kept it moving. Hopefully next time, the ordering process is seamless. I understand the boardwalk is hectic and loud but employees should still be attentive and efficient when taking orders.

Yelp
Of course it was good! Heard it was famous so my family had to try. It's located on the boardwalk so the view is beautiful & conveniently surrounded around plenty of restaurants. The staff was friendly. We'd definitely go Barack.
google avatar

Alexa C.

Yelp
Kohr's is a summer boardwalk classic! There are many flavored burst options served mixed with their famous custard. For me, nothing quite hits like vanilla with rainbow sprinkles, I had to enjoy some before summer's gone!

Yelp
To understand that not everyone has ever had or known what an orange twist with rainbow jimmies is, is unfathomable. Take someone there and watch them light up with ultimate joy!!!!

Yelp
Very friendly staff , quick service and delicious ice cream. If you're on the board walk definitely stop by .

Alby L.

Yelp
Creamiest ice cream ever! Staff members were very friendly. Place was busy but they were fast. Overall, good vibes.
google avatar

Ivan B.

Yelp
Got some soft serve from here on a hot Friday afternoon and boy did it hit the spot! I ordered a vanilla and raspberry swirl. It was a great combination between the sweet vanilla and slightly tart raspberry. Both flavors were very creamy and the texture was perfect! My only complaint would be that I wish the raspberry flavor was slightly stronger but overall very good. Another thing to note is that they are cash only so make sure to have cash on you.

Mark L.

Yelp
Absolute gold. Try the orange raspberry swirl. Been getting this once ever year or two for my entire life. The only reason I'll go to the boardwalk anymore. Good service. Generous portions. Good vibes by the ocean.

Seth B.

Yelp
This is what you get when you go on the boardwalk. Ice cream is a 3.5. Nostalgia is a 5 and prices are a 3. Staff is very nice. You have to get it because you've been getting it for years.
google avatar

Mike J.

Yelp
We come to the shore every August as a tradition and Kohr's is the thing my wife looks forward to the most and the thing that never disappoints. You never get melty custard. You never have a bad ordering experience, even if the line is long. Sure it's pricey, but it's worth it. Bring cash, though, they don't take any other form of payment!
google avatar

Nicole F.

Yelp
A must when visiting Point Pleasant. Always delicious! The orange dip seems quite popular, but I tend to keep it simple with vanilla and rainbow sprinkles. It's to go only, but benches are located across from it. The people at the checkout are always kind and move quickly to get your order. It's quite impressive since there's always some kind of line. There's a long list of flavors available. The only downside is they are cash only. There is an ATM right next to it. I highly recommend making a stop if you're in the area if you're looking to enjoy ice cream on your next beach trip.
google avatar

Scotty C.

Yelp
What's a trip to the boardwalk without ice cream? And what even is ice cream when you can have frozen custard!!! Yes, they have hard ice cream but like... why? They had some good flavor combos but I had to stick to my old faithful chocolate. I did get to try the orange vanilla swirl too and they were both fantastic. I'm not gonna knock off a star because it was so good but quit it with the cash only BS. Everyone else over there has figured out how to take case so quit sending people to the atm.
google avatar

Phil H.

Yelp
It's not just ice cream, it's custard. Been around since the 1920's and still doing it the old fashioned way on the Boardwalk. Soft serve custard is the way to go here. The orange and vanilla swirl custard cone is a must. The orangeade drink is so good. Yeah, I'm all about the orange flavor when it comes to Kohrs. Every time I'm on the Boardwalk here I fill my face with this stuff. No regrets! Melt in your mouth deliciousness.
google avatar

Natty C.

Yelp
Yum! The best ice cream down the shore. I love their soft serve. There is usually a line but it goes by fast. CASH ONLY! Please accept credit cards.
google avatar

Alice T.

Yelp
There is usually a line but it should go by fast. It is important to note that they are CASH ONLY. There is an ATM on the side as well. They usually give you a huge portion for a size small, so if you want to share with one other person it is doable. Also, you can get a cup with a cone on top as well if you are worried about the ice cream dripping and causing a mess.
google avatar

Alexis A.

Yelp
What is better than soft serve on a hot day? Kohrs is Boardwalk staple on Jenkinsons! This place has multiple soft serve flavors and a ton of options for jazzing up your ice cream (cookie cones, sprinkles, flavored dips), you cannot go wrong with any of them! The ONLY reason that it's not 5 stars is cause it's cash only, doesn't really keep up to date with the times but small price to pay!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
It's been years since I been here. Ice cream is amazing! We ordered small cones. Nice size servings.
google avatar

Clarissa K.

Yelp
My sister and I came to the boardwalk to soak in a bit of nostalgia, as we came here when our kids were little to Point Pleasant Beach location. Kohr's is a name that is on all the boardwalks at the Jersey Shore and as kids we would get either ice cream or an orange drink but that was on Asbury Park boardwalk the one Dad would take us to. We ordered a regular size orange drink and shared as it is a pretty generous size. At $4.25 the price is fair for what you get. The girl that was making the drink as ordered said it is made with fresh orange juice, water, ice and sugar. It was really refreshing and almost like I remember. My Mom would make a similar one but with more granulated sugar. Definitely will be coming back here for many more years.

Chris A.

Yelp
Had to stop here while at the boardwalk. A cash only spot since 1923. I went with the orange custard chocolate swirl in a cup. So delicious, perfect for a summer night. there's usually a line but it moved quick. definitely come here if you want some ice cream on the boardwalk
google avatar

Chelsea A.

Yelp
Other than the fact that this is a cash only place, I love love LOVE Kohr's! I grew up eating the orange vanilla swirl cone, but can say that when I'm in the mood, the mint chocolate swirl hits the spot perfectly on a hot summer beach day. Hint: if you're sharing, get a cup of ice cream with a cone on top. It's the same price!
google avatar

Km S.

Yelp
for sure. Went here as a child and wanted to come back. So disappointed. I've had plenty of soft-serve that are much better. And This is definitely NOT frozen custard. The texture is nothing like frozen custard. The chocolate was too chocolate-y and tasted fake. The vanilla was even worse. Rita's custard is so much better for sure. For a kid's cone it was $4.50. I won't get frozen custard here again.
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
Freshest ice cream on the boardwalk. The orage twist is my personal favorite. Always a long line but it goes supper quick! The staff is attentive and on the ball! Thanks for great ice cream!
google avatar

Yesenia R.

Yelp
As must stop if your on the boardwalk. They offer many different options of Italian ices and ice cream, or a mix of both. The staff is always super nice they have a place in the back where you can sit and enjoy your treat.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Ok, well Kohr's has been around since 1923, so I figure a few people, maybe a few thousand or more.... most likely more have visited there in that period of time. For the sake of argument, they must be good at what they do. Frozen custard is a shore thing. If you don't know, you don't know. I was born in Brooklyn, raised in Jersey and reside in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area, for the moment, and there are some things that Jersey does really well. Pizza, burying bodies and frozen custard. Granted ,Rita's Water Ice has made it to North Texas (and they have frozen custard) you still have to make a trek to Kohr's and visit the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and smell the salt and get some salt water taffy a few doors down on Jenkinson's Boardwalk. You can have your soft serve or your hard-packed (cue the double entandres)and you can't go wrong. It's worth it, and if you can scope out a tomato pie....damn, you got a great meal. As stated before in Dan H's review.... how can there be so few reviews for this place? Come on Yelpers! Enjoy.

Kayla N.

Yelp
This is just the regular size!!! The best custard ever!!! I always look forward to coming here during the summer. Tastes so fresh and creamy. Vanilla raspberry swirl is a must try!
google avatar

Bridgette S.

Yelp
Just the yummiest, creamiest icecream everrrrrr. If you go to Point Pleasant and enjoy the rides, your trip isn't complete without a stop here to enjoy some

Rosemary P.

Yelp
Had ice cream in Florida last year. It was soooooo expensive and not that good. Workers that worked there were laughing at us because I questioned the price. Will never go back there.
google avatar

Tulshi P.

Yelp
Best frozen custard in the area, no wonder they have been around for so long! I was hesitant to get the orange/vanilla twist but figured it would be different than getting the usual vanilla/chocolate twist. I was definitely happy I chose the orange/vanilla twist. It was so good and reminded me of an orange pineapple ice cream flavor I used to get as a kid. The place has long lines but the wait is not long at all. They also have tables/chairs in the back of the place which is nice if you want to sit down and enjoy your ice cream.
google avatar

Cindy F.

Yelp
I LOVE the orange and vanilla swirl custard. This place is one of my favorite reasons to stop on the boardwalk for ice cream. I LOVE it!!! Kohr's frozen custard is one of the very things that make summer, summer. No summer is complete without a stop at Kohr's always refreshing. I also prefer to get my frozen custard during the day to avoid the LONG lines. If you are on the boardwalk this is a must stop!

G R.

Yelp
Orange and vanilla swirl for the win. Maybe it's the salt air and smell of cologne from all of the guidos from Staten Island roaming the boards, but Kohr''s has always been the king of custard. And don't get me started on the Orangeade. It's so so good.
google avatar

Lyss C.

Yelp
The best frozen custard I've ever had- still so good after all these years!! The long lines move quickly as everyone gets their favorite custard fix! We indulged in this addictive treat many times during our recent visit back east. I ordered my sentimental favorite, the orange and vanilla twist, and the hubby and kids loved the chocolate and vanilla twist, too. They've really added a lot of new twist flavors since I've been here, and the hand-scooped flavor menu was extensive as well. It's like heaven in a cup, and filling as a meal- worth every penny. We love Kohr's, and can't wait to come back the next time we visit the area.
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
3.5 STARS for this frozen custard on the boardwalk they've got italian ice, ice cream, frozen yogurt with flavor bursts, & frozen custard! ---layered italian ice w/ custard $4 (not on the menu but definitely an option!): i got strawberry italian ice layered with vanilla custard! the custard wasn't as rich as Rita's & the italian ice is a bit solid but it's still a refreshing treat in the scorching heat! NOTE: CASH ONLY
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
The world is a wrong wrong place when there are only 8 reviews for Kohr's Frozen Custard. Why isn't the Yelping community as a whole giving this place business? Frozen Custard and especially frozen custard from Kohr's might be the best thing ever. One of my favorite parts of coming back home to NJ to visit is the fact that I know that a 30 minute drive from my childhood home will take me to Kohr's. Now I don't get here on every trip back home, (I'm pretty sure they aren't open in the winter) but certainly try during the spring and summer as what could be better than a swirled cone at the Jersey shore? The answer to that is nothing. Nothing could be better. There is just something about having this dessert treat with the ocean air and the ocean lurking in the distance. If you've never experienced it, you must. If you have, you already know what I'm typing about. If I ever moved back to NJ, I think I might move in next door to Kohr's.
google avatar

Greg J.

Yelp
As another yelper said "a trip to the shore is not complete without Kohr's." This stand on the boardwalk serves the traditional orange and vanilla twists along with several other combinations such as banana and strawberry, mint and chocolate, or chocolate and vanilla. I always find myself ordering the classics but I'm hoping to try more options such as the Orange and cream float this summer! This particular stand is always well staffed to handle lots of Boardwalk goers in the mood for a sweet treat. They have always been kind and served me with a smile.

Nobuyuki S.

Yelp
I feel like a little kid when I go to Rita's Water, errr, Italian Ice and Kohr Bros. Frozen Custard. The last time I got Kohr Bros custard was in the Orlando, Florida area where they had two stores. It was so great having one of my favourites from Philly/Jersey close to my house. (They also had a couple of Philly area pizza places down there.) In any case, I was planning to meet a friend, if time was working for us, and I went to the boardwalk to see the ocean, relax, and waste some time. Kohr Bros. showed up on Yelp and I was excited to find it. I ordered a small black and white in a cup, since it was humid and warm (before the storm) and it was sooooo good. it even put a smile on my face. I have an allergy to cow's milk but no problems with the custard. The person who took care of my order was friendly and it felt like I was home. I really needed that today.
google avatar

Marie D.

Yelp
A must for every trip to Pt. Pleasant. Usually, the fresh orange juice with a dollop of vanilla frozen custard calls to me, but this time it was homemade coffee with Oreos ice cream. The added hot fudge(hey, it was a chilly evening) made it difficult to rates the coffee. Still tasty!
google avatar

Erika M.

Yelp
Great ice cream right by the entrance to the beach. There's benches nearby, by don't usually count on it since this area is usually packed. Lots of workers along the sides, so lines go by pretty fast. Just be mindful that this place is cash only!
google avatar

Beverly T.

Yelp
Don't get a milkshake! Oh how awful. I asked for a chocolate shake. They make it with their nasty soft serve custard (vanilla) and add a swirl of artificial chocolate flavoring. The shake itself was watery, like the worst chocolate milk I've ever had. One taste and it went right in the trash. Never again!
google avatar

Krista M.

Yelp
Kohr's serves soft serve just as it should be. It is creamy and hearty without being too dense and it is totally delicious. The crowded Point Pleasant boardwalk makes for lines at Kohr's but the staff is very friendly and quick. If you are a fan of soft serve this is definitely the place to get your fix.

Jake L.

Yelp
I went to the crepes and coffee section of the Kohr's shop on the boardwalk this morning. It is horribly over priced with below average service. If you're getting a coffee ask to put the creamer in yourself because "light" cream to them means a cup of cream with a splash of coffee. This is a cash only business. So if you're anticipating getting crepes and coffee be sure to stop at the bank and withdraw your bank account. Would not recommend
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
I may never go back to regular Ice Cream again!! I've recently experienced frozen custard in a little shoppe in Boston but I see it's very popular in the Jersey Shore. Why would anyone want ice cream after they've had frozen custard. After stopping at Khors in Point Pleasant, I insisted that my friend try some frozen custard. She had the Orange and Vanilla and I had the Chocolate and Vanilla. I can't get over how creamy and rich the flavor and the custard is. We went to a couple different Khors along the Jersey Shore and were satisfied every time. I wish we had one here in Boston!!! Wahhhhh!!!
google avatar

Robert L.

Yelp
There's a reason why there are several ice cream joints in the immediate area, and Kohr's has all the lines. A fan friggin tasticly generous helping of delicious ice cream! Yeah, so they burned the boardwalk down a couple years ago. Its still my go to, shut my kids up, ice cream dream. May I suggest chocolate soft serve with the hot peanut butter topping.....mmm
google avatar

Ed S.

Yelp
Funny to review a place like this. I think there are two. I love ice cream. The vanilla soft serve custard is AWESOME. My son had the Belgian Waffle with ice cream. He was in heaven. Imagine a Belgian Waffle Taco with the most delicious ice cream as the filling. On a really hot day it will either be the most refreshing thing you ever had or a massive mess but it will certainly be delicous. Skip the other places and get this ice cream!

Joseph D.

Yelp
TLDR: Really good soft serve and custard and one of the few places with food that's worth the markup at Point Pleasant. Also, cash only. I'm not from around the area, but Point Pleasant seems like a great spot to hang out with friends and family during the summer time. I'm not entirely sure if I would ever eat a full meal at Point Pleasant considering the ridiculous mark ups on food, but I wouldn't mind dropping cash on some soft serve from Kohr's. Two things to know about this place is that it's super busy during peak hours and it is cash only. Last time I was here, there were six lines going and each had around ten people. Even during the busiest times in the summer, the crowds this place attracts really stand out. In case you don't have cash, there's an ATM not even 20 feet or so from Kohr's. Just be aware of the 3.49 transaction fee to withdraw cash. While I am sure you cannot go wrong with nearly anything here, I would highly recommend the side by side chocolate and peanut butter soft serve. It's very flavorful and just the right amount of sweetness. If you're not that hungry for dessert, a regular cone for 4.50 might be good enough for two. So why the four stars and not five? While the soft serve is really good, it's not the absolute best you'll ever have. If it was, I would be more than happy to pay 4.50 for a cone. Next, it is highly archaic and inconvenient for this place to be cash only. While highly doubtful that lower prices and acceptance of credit cards will be in the works, changing those two things would make this place a 5. Nevertheless, Kohr's is worth trying out, especially if it is your first time at Point Pleasant.

Jay M.

Yelp
The best ice cream. They have soft peanut butter which is my favorite and other delicious soft serve ice cream flavors. Such as: Banana, Orange, Peanut Butter, Mint, strawberry, and your basic chocolate and vanilla.
google avatar

Louis R.

Yelp
I'm hella lactose intolerant. I've come here for the vanilla soft-serve ice cream, 12 years and counting. I've been sprinting to the boardwalk restrooms 1/2 hour after I've devoured my ice cream....12 years and counting. There's no shame in my game. ITS JUST THAT DELICIOUS.
google avatar

Diana M.

Yelp
I heart Kohr's Frozen Custard. You really can NEVER go wrong with the actual soft serve. However, I do feel like they were very stingy with it. For $4 I got a small amount on a cone... GIMME SOME MORE!!!! I loved the peanut butter swirl mix!
