Set in a stunning 18th-century Danish castle, this luxe hotel boasts lush gardens, a top-tier spa, 18-hole golf, and refined dining just north of Copenhagen.
"Built as an aristocratic country manor in 1746, Kokkedal Castle was a private residence for much of its existence, hosting salons and parties for Copenhagen ’s elite. Restored and opened as a hotel in 2011, the castle is now one of Denmark’s most luxurious stays, set on acres of sprawling parkland along the Danish coast, just 30 minutes north of Copenhagen. With its manicured gardens, afternoon tea on the terrace, and 18th-century–inspired decor, it feels like that friend’s country estate you’ve just been waiting for an invitation to—if, that is, your friend has an excellent restaurant in the original cellars, specializing in Danish and French country cuisine, and a world-class holistic spa ready to cater to your every whim. To top it all off, thanks to the castle’s location, both Copenhagen and the region’s myriad other sights are within an hour or two’s reach, either by train or by car."
We spent a weekend with friends and this was a great experience. We have been here before, some years ago, but the experience, like last time, was very good. The food is great both the dinner and the breakfast. The room was great, we stayed in the annex and if you like, this is a great area for taking a walk.

Wonderful Hotel near Copenhagen. Room was amazing. Staff was extra polite and helpful. Grounds were beautiful. Breakfast was the best we had in DK. I would live here if I could. lol

We were "lucky" that the main building's roof was being renovated, so there were fewer guests. The room we got was spacious and furnished with antique comfortable furniture and a direct exit to the park. The bed was big and comfortable, while the bathroom was quite small. The towels were enormous and heavy.|Breakfast is too basic for a five-star hotel, with no fish for guests who don't eat meat and a quite limited choice of bread.|The service is excellent and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Kokkedal Castle was a huge letdown. The entire castle was under heavy renovation and completely covered in plastic—none of this was disclosed at booking.
Instead of a castle stay, I was placed in a small annex building, which was not mentioned in the room description.
To make matters worse, the hotel charged my card €100 without consent, based on an unproven claim.
Misleading advertising, poor communication, and unethical practices. Not recommended.

Very small room. Bathroom not well lighted. Shower is incredibly tight. Service was great though. Loved that they provide free bicycle rental for guests. All riding tails even those jn the woods are well lighted at night.

My husband was really in shock when the old lady ahead of him in line was denied check in because the time was 14:55, not 15:00. |In other word 5 minutes!!! That really was a shame. Two minutes later my husband was able to check in, by that time the lady had obediently gone to sit down and wait. ||So to some positive impressions:|The building itself is very impressive. It’s very peaceful and it’s like a fairytale with the horses and the green fields around. ||The staff at the bar-particularly one young guy was really service minded. He was actually the one sweet person in the whole hotel that was outstanding. ||Speaking of the bar- the building and decor is really nice but whoever was in charge of furnishings in the bar should find a new job. Everything looks like it’s thrown in there or that it is a furniture store where they try to sell you chairs. Furniture should be grouped together creating an intimate atmosphere because that’s what the room deserves. Get rid of 1/4 of the chairs there and it will be more inviting. ||Disappointed with our room that was in a building away from the castle. Room was very small. Glad we only stayed one night. ||Bathroom shower was built in a way causing water all over the floor. Water temperature was constantly changing and suddenly scolding. |Good stuff was the thick fluffy towels and lovely smelling soap. No body lotion. ||There is a gym on the premises. Believe it or not- it costs 95 DKK pr person pr hour to use for hotel guests!! This place sure knows how to milk your money. Also if you want a cappuccino for breakfast there is a charge. ||Breakfast was ok. Nothing special but the basic stuff. On the positive side- the orange juice was really good. Freshly squeezed and not watered out. ||We did not eat at the hotel due to the menu and prices and went 10 min by car down to the harbor instead. We did not regret that at all. ||We had a good night sleep but someone next door was up at 5 making a lot of noise so with lack of insulation we woke up too. ||All in all 3 stars for the surroundings and for the great guy in the bar. Would we come back? Nah, I don’t think so.
