Kokonuts Shave Ice and Snacks is a delightful gem! The friendly lady who assisted us was pleasant. We were thrilled to discover that even former President Barack Obama has stopped by to try their treats! My cousin brought me here, and we certainly didn’t regret it. The flavors are refreshing, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Highly recommended!

Google
Tried Former President Obama’s favorite shaved ice spot. Got the medium sized one, I couldn’t finish it! Mochi wasn’t the best IMO.

Google
After a long day at the beach, stopped for refreshments and was not disappointed. The portions were large and the syrups were quite tasty. I ordered Passion Fruit, Coconut & Pineapple with ice cream and topped with condensed milk. Oh my lort… every calorie was well worth the effort I’ll need to burn it off. There was a constant stream of customers and the wait was minimal.

Google
Reasonable prices. Not enough syrup on the shaved ice. When we kindly asked for a little more since the middle of the cone was all white we got a stink eye and she rudely poured just a little bit more which still wasn’t enough for the large we got. Daughters friends shaved ice was a medium with not enough syrup also. She asked for a little more syrup and was not given anymore but a stink eye. I don’t normally leave ratings but the gal was so rude. Other shaved ice places are always nice about adding more syrup.

Lilikoi and blueberry syrup with freshly shaved ice was so refreshing!

Obama might be a godless commie with no clue how to run a country- but he does know really good shaved ice. I ordered cherry + vanilla w condensed milk n mochi. My wife got the pina colada + banana li hing mui w condensed milk n mochi. This place is legit

Yelp
Every time I come home to Hawai'i, my heart bursts with happiness when I see that The beloved Kokonuts is still here! This place has been my go-to gem for my all-time favorite adventures since high school and something about walking into this place reminds me of innocent and wholesome times. My most ordered is definitely the Açaí Supreme... ... (with apple juice *and* soy milk when they let me ) But today I opted for the simple shaved ice with green tea * coconut * snow cap and it felt like the best 5.24$ ever invested for my inner child.

Yelp
Kokonuts is a solid choice for a good açaí bowl - delicious and big enough to share. Parking is easy to find at Koko Marina Center, so it's easy to bring the group or meet up there. Good spots to eat on the east side can be hard to find, so Kokonuts gets some extra brownie points! Haven't really tried their other options like shave ice but they do have other snacks and treats for the kids!

Yelp
Kokonuts is a one star rated shop. It always has been and always will be. If there was an option to give 0 stars I would've. Where do I even start? First of all, it was a hot day and my Cheyna and I just completed a hike so we were very parched and craving a good refreshment. We decided to go to Kokonuts because it was neat by and usually served decent treats to quench our cravings. I ordered the honeydew smoothie with mochi balls (one of my usuals) and I mean it's not the best smoothie but it's one of their good ones that quenches my thirst for me on a hot day. However, today was not the day it quenched my thirst. It infact did the opposite of quenching. We went to China Walls after and met up with our friend Makayla who also ordered a honeydew smoothie with mochi balls. During our chinas mish we knew right away that the drink didn't sit right with us. Almost all of the mochi balls were hard af and no one likes hard balls. The honeydew was more flavorless than usual and the more we drank it the more pain our stomach gave us. In case you were wondering, we didn't finish the drink. Makayla drank half and I drank a about 3/4 of it then we tossed it the first chance we got. But that's not the end of it. When we went back to Makenas house, our stomachs felt like a volcano that was grumbling and growling almost ready to erupt. I left Makaylas and as soon as I got home I laid down on my couch to rest, however that didn't last long. I threw up. All of it. And it was green with some pink chunks so I know damn well what the cause of my sickness was. It was your damn tpxic smoothie and month-old hard mochi balls. This was a terrible experience, and even though I don't go that often (for a reason), I won't be coming back anytime soon or ever. Not to mention, I doubt that place is up to code. I also had a friend who worked there and mentions thats there are cockroaches in the blenders and ice machines. And the workers seemed to not have a work dress-code eitherBut that's a whole other story....

Yelp
Fell in on this place purely by accident after hiking koko head. If there's anything I love it's a non touristy legit spot and this place delivered. It appears that Justin Bieber has been here and that almost made me take off a star lol. I'm kidding of course but this place is the real deal. If you're in the area definitely give it a try

Yelp
Wonderful to have a small local shave ice store on the East side. The shop can't be bigger than a large closet but there are fun homemade goodies such as energy bars. The biggest draw though is the shave ice and yes you need to get ice cream. The two girls helping out at the front are nice but I get the feeling they have dealt with a lot of annoying customers. They were helpful with suggesting favorites and toppings. Of course we got our standard rainbow, ice cream and snow cap. Icy treat a definite relief on a hot summer day. The price is a little higher than we would normally pay but it's the east side. We did also pick up energy bars and they were super yummy..love the peanut butter flavor. We took the shave ice outside to sit on the tables near the Italian eatery. It was nice and relaxing. The ice was not as fine as I was used to but otherwise good. The flavors were sweet and with ice cream and snowcap there's not much to complain about. Really enjoyed the dessert and hit the spot on a warm summer day.

Yelp
WOW! So glad I stumbled upon this small local business on my way out of the Koko Crater hike. So good! Got the mango smoothie and it was the perfect creamy smoothy!
google avatar

Tammy L.

Yelp
Good place to go for shaved ice after hiking Koko Head since it's located nearby. I only had my credit card so had to spend min of $10 to use it. Ended up getting the shaved ice and mochi. Shaved ice was refreshing but some tapioca balls were undercooked (not soft or chewy on inside). The mochi was good but a little too buttery than I'm used to. Staff were friendly and service quick.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
Mango banana smoothie with mochi. My go to drink whenever I'm in Hawaii Kai. The best on a hot day!
google avatar

Alessandra G.

Yelp
Small shave ice place tucked away. By the Jamba Juice. The size small is good for most people. The condensed milk was good. They give a lot of mochi, enough to cover the entire bottom of the bowl. It's chewy and good. The lychee flavor was a bit too sour for me but the rest was so good.
google avatar

Yelp
We yelped this location last minute after a family photoshoot nearby. It was cool to see Obama has visited this spot... small location.. kind of chaotic looking with merch and candy all around. Ladies working weren't that friendly. They seemed kind of impatient. We got two flavors: strawberry & mango with ice cream. It was good and simple.. exactly what we needed. Didn't taste crazy sweet or syrupy. Perfect amount of sweetness & ice cream provided enough creaminess.

Yelp
So happy it was open tonight! New Year's Eve! We always come here for dessert after having dinner at Asssagio's! They make the best homemade crepes! Very thin and fluffy! Made to order so such good service! You need to get one with nutella spread, sliced bananas, strawberries topped with whipped cream! So delicious and reasonable!
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
Took the photo right when I got my shave ice and 4 minutes later it melted down. Ice is not fine, syrup was syrup and mochi balls were in the bottom with ice cream. Nice to see plenty people trying em out. Place was small, had snacks, no standing room to wait inside, just had to listen for your order.

Yelp
Always have stop by when I'm on this side whether it's for their smoothie or the acai. It's always pretty busy but the food and drinks come out quick. I like the crack seed shop / beach vibes as it's very nostalgic since much hasn't changed. The acai is loaded and personally I'm not normally coconut person, but the coconuts shavings on this is very tasty. I would definitely recommend stopping by here for a quick sweet treat after the beach.
google avatar

Yelp
We love Kokonuts. My friends did an around-the-island shave ice challenge and Kokonuts came out on top! Personally, I love their smoothies with mochi balls.
google avatar

Christina Q.

Yelp
Pretty good! You can choose between soy milk or apple juice as the base. The honey to granola to açaí ratio is the perfect amount but the toasted coconut flakes are definitely the star of the show. The açaí is on the liquid side so if you like thicker, more sorbet açaí this place is not for you. i do think there are better tasting açaí places too. The shop was so cute; there's pictures with some famous people! Also lovely lady working in the front and the service was fast :-)
google avatar

Sang Yup K.

Yelp
I been getting Shave Ice and Acai from the Korean lady since I was a little kid and it still taste exactly the same as I remember it in elementary school. My favorite thing about the acai that sets it apart from the other places is the toasted coconut flakes she puts on the top. The price has definitely got way more expensive over the years but the taste is the same and that's all that matters for me.

Yelp
Kokonuts is a MUST after hiking or going beach anywhere around here!! So good, refreshing, & amazing service!! JUSTIN BIEBER & OBAMA WENT HERE TOO!!
google avatar

Yelp
Supreme açaí bowl is delicious and refreshing after a long hike. Owner is also very friendly. Must buy the butter mochi!
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
The açaí bowls are delicious and the service impeccable. The staff is always warm and welcoming. The feel of the mom and pop stores is so comforting.
google avatar

Yelp
OBAMA OBAMA, Obama was here :) Every business Obama visits it'll turn into a very hyped place. Oh and there are some other celebrities who's photos are hung up on the wall like Ben Affleck and Justin Bieber. I think the shaved ice is good. Very refreshing especially after a hike at Koko Trail. Is is the best? Probably not but it's good. The owner herself will serve you.
google avatar

Ayush K.

Yelp
I visited Kokonuts with a friend without knowing how popular the place is. A lot of celebrities and high-profile personnel have been to Kokonuts, including Obama, Ben Affleck, and Justin Beiber. There were quite a few folks chilling outside the shop, enjoying their shaved ice. It's a small shop, but they have a lot of different options other than shaved ice. You can also get acai bowls, ice creams, crepes, sundaes, and shakes. They have 3 different sizes to pick from, and each size dictates how many flavors you can add. I got medium-sized shaved ice, so I was able to add 3 flavors- vanilla, strawberry, and lychee. You can also add one of the two toppings they have available- 1. Condensed milk 2. Ice cream. I added condensed milk to mine. All in all, it was really good. Parking was super easy because kokonuts is located in a small strip mall. The staff was super friendly and nice. I'd be back.

Yelp
Small convenience store that also sells acai bowls, boba, smoothies, and shaved ice. Lots of flavors to choose from. We had the Li Hing banana, pina colada, and fruit punch/lilikoi. Snow cap was a must. Shaved ice was velvety and melt-in-your-mouth satisfying! The perfect treat to treat yourself with after hiking Koko Head!
google avatar

May Grace A.

Yelp
I like to support local businesses but this one disappointed me, I dont like writing and wasting my time writing bad to a business but the acai bowl was too soupy, the inside is so dirty.. stuff all over the place it's like a hoarder house I couldn't stand it. Yeah sure Obama came and other celebrities probably 20 yrs ago, I wish they make the interior cleaner and more appealing to customers
google avatar

Takumi Y.

Yelp
Wondered why they ask if I want soy or apple juice when ordering Acai Bowl ... first time I thought it was just the worker made it watery so decided I give it another try this time the owner made it and I told i didn't want it soupy she said she try well guess not. I don't know about Shave ice or anything else but Acai Bowl not recommended especially not for what they charge for it . I like the norm consistency from everywhere else.

Yelp
My first ever shave ice! Well my son and I's first time! I am so glad I went to this place to try shave ice! It was amazing flavors, didn't taste artificial! The ice was melt in your mouth orgasmicly great -felt like a cold version of a cotton candy! Service was phenomenal! Fast! Super friendly! Professional! Too bad they don't have a sit down area to enjoy in their tiny store. However there's 3 blue tiled chairs right outside their store which was helpful.
google avatar

Krystal H.

Yelp
The best shaved ice I have ever eaten, not the friendliest service, but as far as the ambiance... you are in Hawaii! It's beautiful, enjoy the moment and get the sno come with ice cream in it!!!
google avatar

Ronny S.

Yelp
Hi-ya! So we stopped by Kokonuts a couple times on this trip and tried a lot of different flavors amongst the five of us. The shaved ice is pretty good, portions reasonable and the service is good. It has the that small niche feeling and delivery of purchased goodies is fairly orderly. It can get a little congested when ordering and the wait for your order, but it's all reasonably fast unless you order shaved ice. Great spot, easy parking, just a bit of an aged feeling when inside.

Clifford K.

Yelp
Some of the best shave ice on the east side of Oahu. The employees are also super friendly. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My wife is a shave ice snob and loves this place. There are very few places on island that can get the ice to a true powdery state and this is one of the best. Not the best but one of the best. There is sufficient parking in this plaza of stores to park in front of Kokonuts. When we visited, there were no other patrons and we simply walked right in which is not always the case. It was nice being able to go in and browse for a change instead of feeling rushed with a long line. I ordered a small rainbow of three colors for $3. A reasonable cost for shave ice and a small is usually plenty for me. Between it melting and getting a brain freeze while eating it, a small is usually sufficient before I'm done trying to enjoy it. My wife prefers her shave ice with barely any syrup as she appreciates the ice. If you're an ice guru, this is a place to try. The Obama's and other celebrities have visited with pics available to view. Enjoy!

Yelp
This is the closest shave ice place to my home, so I thought I'd give it a try one hot day when I was craving something refreshing. They're located in the Koko Marina Shopping Center in Hawaii Kai, across from the theaters. Plenty of parking is available in the shared lot. They're a small hole-in-the-wall with no seating available inside, but there are a few tables situated outside. I ordered a small rainbow shave ice for $3.00. It was a decent size and more than enough for me. I didn't order any of the toppings, but they do offer the typical extras such as condensed milk, mochi balls, azuki beans, ice cream, etc. The flavors were deep, but the ice was not shaved enough. It was too icy. I like my shave ice super smooth. This place became somewhat well-known because Obama stopped by here on one of his trips. It'll do the trick if you just need something refreshing and happen to be in the area, but don't expect a "wow" like you might experience at one of the other well-known shave ice places on the island.

Yelp
Went on a hike on a hot day, wanted to get shave ice. We initially were going to go to Kailua but decided to come here because it was the closest shave ice shop. Seems pretty famous since they have a photo of former President Obama right in the front. The prices are affordable and not super overpriced for shave ice which I like. I hope it stays like that because it seems to be the hot spot for a lot of people especially people who finished hiking. I was debating on getting a large shave ice but decided just to go with a small rainbow shave ice with condense milk and it was enough to fulfill me. If i had gotten a large, I definitely would not have finished it. Minus one star because it was pretty busy when I arrived and there were a lot of people waiting outside and around the shop. The employees yell out the shave ice but it's hard to hear and differentiate which is yours. Some groups order the same type of shave ice and you kinda go in think it's yours but it's not. If it gets busy, the best thing would be to use names or order numbers. It would make it a lot easier for the employees and customers to know which order is theirs.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
We went here because for some reason Uncle Clay's was only serving ice cream and not shave ice. They only had size small which was fine with me. There were a lot of flavors listed but nothing very interesting or exotic. I got coconut and lilikoi , which was disappointing. It was orange colored and kind of tasted like artificial orange syrup which made me wonder if the syrups got mixed up, so I checked with a friend who got the same flavor, and it was the same. The ice had some tiny pebbles and did not melt in my mouth like at the places I usually frequent. Maybe It's because I wasn't eager to finish it that it melted and I ended up with an orange puddle that I threw away. I suppose if I was dying for shave ice immediately after a hike to Koko Head or Makapu'u I might go here, but I'd much rather drive just a little further for smoother ice and better syrup.

Maddison R.

Yelp
The açaí is delicious but wayyy overpriced. Employees are moody teenage girls who appear to hate their jobs. Which is sad for the owner of the establishment. Shame on them for being sassy and disrespectful whilst slamming the bowls down to demonstrate their displeasure.
google avatar

Erika O.

Yelp
Umm... YES. Mochi in my Oreo slushie!? Sounds weird but it works. This place is a little hole in the wall that deserves a stop over for a cold treat after hiking nearby it spending the day at the beach..
google avatar

Susie O.

Yelp
The shaved ice was horrible. It was super sweet and they put too much syrup where made the shave ice melt too fast to eat it. Same thing happens to two my friends Definitely won't recommend to anyone
google avatar

Carissa C.

Yelp
Good bang for your buck, but personally not our #1 pick. My family and I tried several flavor combos: lychee/coconut, pineapple/lilikoi, green tea/li hing. All of the flavor combos were very refreshing after a long day out on the beach, however the snow texture was a bit on the icier side. Social distancing is practiced and you are only permitted inside the store if you are placing your order. Obama tried it so I'd recommend to give them a try as well!
google avatar

Dianna H.

Yelp
Came by after Koko Crater hike because we were all craving something cold and sweet. We all ordered shaved ices, and agreed that the ice here was very soft, which we really liked. Unfortunately the flavors did not taste very authentic. I ordered a medium shaved ice ($4) with grape, honeydew, passionfruit, and unfortunately none of those flavors tasted like what I was expecting. One friend ordered some mochi with her shaved ice and said it was quite bland and flavorless. The store is in a plaza with plenty of parking. There's no seating inside but there's some benches outside to sit and eat.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
This place has some really good shave ice and açaí bowls. When we went, there was no line and the staff inside were really friendly and we had a small chat about their famous visitors (Obama, Ben Affleck, etc.). The Açaí bowl was refreshing with either the apple juice or soy milk combination. We also got two shave ices afterwards - one Obama special of cherry and lime and a rainbow shave ice. They were both so good and hit the spot right after we did the Koko Head Trail hike. If you're a visitor, this spot is a bit out of the way unless you plan to hike around the area but I would imagine this place being a popular local staple in the Hawaii Kai area. I would also imagine the line being long based on what I've heard but luckily we didn't have to wait.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Came here after grabbing lunch OTW the east side of the island. The Mochi balls were SOOOO SOFT omg. Perfect size and the serving was generous!!! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

E C.

Yelp
Ice was already half melting and flavors were over-applied. Maybe it was a bad day - but will not be stopping by again or recommending.
google avatar

Karima E.

Yelp
Great looking açaí, but the consistency was way too liquidy:( The honey also was bad quality. Very bitter and nothing like the honey we have had at other açaí bowl places. Unfortunately wouldn't come back here. Better açaí bowls on the island.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
It's literally like butter! The shaved ice is so soft and powdery and yummy ! Randomly stumbled upon this place and it did not disappoint. Definitely worth a stop, I got rainbow with mochi and my boyfriend got pineapple and coconut.

Tyra G.

Yelp
Ordered a strawberry banana Nutella crepe with vanilla ice cream which took 15 mins. Crepe was burnt and ice cream was icy and yellow looking. My friend also ordered a shave ice (not pictured) which already melted once served
google avatar

Chimi Y.

Yelp
I love this place for Acai Bowls and Shaved Ice!! The service is friendly and the food is delicious. The bowls are massive and are 24 oz with loads of honey the way I like it. My friend who ordered the shave ice said it was the best of the 4 places we had tried so far. I bought a shirt from this place as well and its so cute! - now Obama and I have matching shirts ;)
google avatar

Micah G.

Yelp
I like this place! If you like shave ice give it a try! Tons of parking and it's really refreshing. It's also conveniently located by a lot of food places too. It's in the Kokomarina shopping plaza so if you're hiking look head and is on the way back to the west side, stop by for a refreshing snack! I rarely come out to koko head side so I have to come here cause I love me some shave ice! The staff is really friendly and nice! When I came here it was some young girls so we just made small talk. The service is quick! They do close early and on time so be sure to get here before they close. They won't open for you even if you're a minute late! There's tons of prking so that's what I like :) Will definitely be back! I've been here 2x and it's been great both times! Love it! They load up the flavor so I like that!
google avatar

Eric D.

Yelp
After spending the morning hiking up Koko Head Trail, the shaved ice at Kokonuts was the perfect reward. Large portions and all plenty of variety in the flavors. They have a wall with pictures of celebrities that have visited Kokonuts with President Obama being the most prominent figure.
google avatar

Sydni K.

Yelp
Everytime I'm out on the east side, I always find myself at Kokonuts. It's always the perfect treat after a hot hike. I got the small shave ice with lychee and mango with mochi. They use good syrup with lots of flavor. I don't know if they hand make their mochi, but it's really good! The line may look long, but they are very efficient.
google avatar

Joan T.

Yelp
Superb shave ice!! Fluffy and delicious! We tried lychee, cherry, blue berry, lemon lime (Obama's preference here along with cherry), melon, peach, and orange. All very yummy! Obviously we're talking about ice and sugar here but it's such a simple, refreshing thing to enjoy. We also tried a few toppings which are put under all the ice. Mochi was great! Very chewy texture. I got tapioca which was overdone , so not my favorite thing. We also had ice cream and condensed milk which is pretty much exactly as you expect. Great quick spot to grab a refreshing snack!
google avatar

Guy D.

Yelp
Of all the Shave Ice spots we hit across the island, this one was by far our favorite! Many celebs pics on the walls, Obama, the Biebs and Ben Affleck to name a few. They are super friendly here, and the pricing is on par with the others. $6 will get you a large 3 syrup, condensed milk massive shave ice bowl!! This one is way larger than any other spots Large $5 size, trust me! The ice is way smoother and perfect, no hard frozen pieces. Just perfect!!! The syrup flavors are hands down better here as well, you can taste them and they do not taste too artificial like other places. This is a small location in a strip mall with a few snack bags hanging and souvenirs, but the main attraction is what you are here for....do not lose focus! The service is so fast, took maybe 1-2 mins to get ours. Again, the cashier and workers are all so friendly and patient. If you have any questions, just ask them and get their opinion.
