I first saw this place while out on my morning run (a short distance from Royal Rihga Hotel). It's in a beautiful urban area next to the river and is contrasted by modern architecture, shopping areas and restaurants. Inside the castle is educational, with many displays. There is a cafe on the top, 5th floor. The highlight for me in the castle were the massive tiger paintings.

So beautiful and the story of the castle and shogunate. I really like the place and the history. Everything is near. And there is a festival too. First time we visited here. Kokura Castle is also known as Cherry blossom castle🌸🏯

Rebuild after war , beautifully combined the new and old part of the buildings, and inject many vibrant elements into this historic site. Interactive devices applied to attract young people to getting to know the history of the city and its surrounding.

Kokura Castle is a fantastic place to spend a few hours exploring history and nature. The castle features a wide range of interactive exhibits that bring the region’s past to life—making learning genuinely fun and engaging for all ages. The surrounding grounds are beautifully maintained, with lush greenery, peaceful walking paths, and a scenic moat that adds to the charm and atmosphere. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just looking for a relaxing and enriching outing, Kokura Castle is well worth the visit.

Admission is 300 yen for adults. One of the most engaging castle interiors I have been in. There is a long hallway of just miniature dioramas as you walk in. There are horse archery minigames but one of them was OOS. There is an eleveator to ascend or descend but you can also take the stairs to see everything on each floor. The first floor is more interactive while the other floors have all the glass case exhibits. It was a little disappointing that most of the view is hindered by the big shopping mall so close to it, I wish more of the original grounds was preserved

Amazing castle. The best one I’ve been to in Kyushu and probably in Japan. There’s a lot of small things inside to entertain you: horseback archery mini game, a mirror that shows you wearing Japanese clothes, a place where you can try on actual Japanese clothes and take a picture in front of a castle backdrop, lots of other good interactive displays where you can take a picture. We also got to take a picture with the mascot. He did a photoshoot at 3 pm when we were there, not sure if that happens every day at the same time. Overall an amazing experience for just 350 yen.

Beautiful place in Kokura, Kitakyushu. Must see places. To go up the castle you need to pay for it. There is a Shinto temple next to the castle. Garden around the castle is beautiful and serene.

Truly majestic, I think this is one of my favourite castles in japan. The interior was amazing and they even have a cafe on the top floor to look out across the city

Yelp
Kokura Castle was built in 1602 during the early Edo period by Mori Katsunobu at its current location, and Hosokawa Tadaoki built the main keep. It boasts one of the largest main keep towers in Japan, and is the 6th tallest castle in the country, with the largest first-floor floor area in the country. The castle was destroyed in the war in 1866, and the current castle was rebuilt in its current form in 1959.
