How to Plan the Perfect Trip to Reykjavik, Iceland

"A bustling weekend flea market at the Old Harbour that offers a wide snapshot of Icelandic culture—from wool garments and local candies to more adventurous fare like fermented shark—making it a great place to shop for souvenirs and sample traditional foods." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. "One of the best places to feel the local side of Reykjavik life, the Kolaportid Flea Market is set in a spacious industrial warehouse close to the city’s old harbor. Open at weekends only, you can find anything from wool jumpers and vintage fashion garments to fermented fish and licorice, plus plenty of second-hand books and decorative knickknacks. Best to go early to avoid the crowds (it opens at 11 a.m.)—and best to have cash on you since many of the market’s vendors don't accept credit cards."

The stalls are all equally priced, so no need to try and find a. Bargain as they've levelled the saying field. A lot of stuff you can buy elsewhere. Atmospheric to walk around with some very quirky stalls and a little supermarket where you can buy Icelandic bread and frozen fish. It's pretty nice to walk around and has a.nice atmosphere.

My wife and I had a great time seeing what each vendor had to offer. Picked up some old VHS and Blue Rays. Very diverse offerings.

This flea market is amazing. If you want a true authentic hand knit Icelandic sweater, this is the place to come for the best selection. So many beautiful unique sweaters. Some vendors take credit cards but many want cash. There is an ATM here so that makes it convenient. The vendors were all very nice.

This is a great market full of hidden treasures and well below the retail prices of the main shops. It's best to take your time and treasure hunt through the tribe of goodies, there is a mix range of products but the local and vintage goods are towards the back of the space. I found these beautifully local made bracelets (located along the back wall between currency of old notes and handmade ceramics) with volcano stones 2,500 kr each, for gifts better priced than other shops and it's always good to support local businesses. Highly recommend checking it out.

Interesting find!! The small grocery is fantastic and the quality is just as good. The smoked salmon was enjoyed later at our hotel after picking up some rolls from a local bakery. One of the booths that I highly recommend is the fish leather booth, mRa Designs. This was the best purchase I made while visiting Iceland. I purchased a wallet, and I regret not buying another as a gift. It is beautifully crafted and so unique. The owner, Mikael, was engaging and enthusiastic about his products. It was a fun experience and a beautiful, unique treasure to take home.

A happy coincidence! I literally stumble on this market. There were many beautiful hand knitted sweaters Icelandic wool sweaters, caps, socks and scarves. Loads of beautiful shearling coats. Interesting arts and crafts and the usual vintage items. Found a really beautiful sweater and some cute caps. Fun way to browse away a Saturday afternoon. ❤️
