Typical Swedish restaurant with cosy interior, very friendliy service and delicious local food. The steak tartare was a great starter and the schnitzel was very tasty, but the meatballs were the undisputed star of this dinner. Creamy mashed potatoes, a very tasty gravy, lingonberries and pickled cucumber on the side, the meatballs were made to perfection. Special thanks to waiter Andreas and his colleagues for the friendly and attentive service.

The traditional Swedish meatballs and beef schnitzel were fantastic, and the crème brûlée was absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a classic Swedish atmosphere, and the service is very professional. Depending on the time, it’s a good idea to make a reservation.

The restaurant itself has very vibrant atmosphere, nice quiet music and very friendly staff that can help you with the choice. I had the traditional Swedish meatballs (as a person from the Balkan’s i’ve only tried the Ikea’s meatballs 😁). The gravy and the potatoes were truly amazing, the meatballs had very interesting texture and taste. If I go back to Sweden and this restaurant, i would definitely go with the schnitzel, because it looked amazing and crispy. What i also liked were the “compliments” with bread and butter - fantastic! Overall, had an amazing and pleasant experience, i reccomend it to anyone who’s wondering where to eat in this area! 🙏

A down-to-earth restaurant serving traditional Swedish cuisine, without any frills. The food was very good and authentic, and the service was friendly and attentive. A great place for anyone looking to enjoy classic Swedish dishes in a relaxed atmosphere.

I had the Swedish meatballs entree. It was served on beautiful serviceware and came with mashed potatoes, lingonberries, and pickled cucumbers. Quite tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We were seated in the outdoor covered area because it was so busy and we didn’t have a reservation but the inside looked very quaint. Lovely lunch overall.

A popular place that requires booking in advance. When I come at 1900, it’s fully occupied. The food and vibe were decent. They offer half or full schnitzel, be aware that the full one is actually huge. The downside is that the waiting time before being served is rather long as the place is so full, so have patience!

This is one of Gothenburg’s oldest and most classic restaurants, serving traditional Swedish dishes like meatballs, liver, veal, and of course fish. It’s located where it has been for many decades and the interior is largely unchanged. The current owners added some fun art, and also upgraded the menu a bit. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant gets very busy so a reservation is highly recommended for lunch or evening meals. We have visited many, many times over the last four decades and never been disappointed. If you visit Gothenburg this is a must-do part of your stay.

Tried traditional Swedish meatballs — they were really delicious and juicy! The service was great and the atmosphere very cozy. I also liked that the price included water, coffee, bread, butter and salad. Definitely worth a visit if you want to try local food.

GET THE SWEDISH MEATBALLS! My husband and I were looking for a yummy Swedish dinner and found this wonderful gem. Usually we get something different and split our meal (so we can try new things), but we both wanted the meatballs and were not disappointed. It came with a hefty serving of mashed potatoes and brown gravy, a small plate of lingonberries (kind of like cranberries) and thinly sliced pickled cucumbers. Atmosphere and service was lovely. Would recommend over and over. Top notch!

This is a Michelin, fine dining restaurant for suuuuure. If your parents are in town, if you've got someone you want to wine and dine, if you're in the mood to treat yo'self, this is definitely a great place. It's old school feeling on the inside with white table clothes and waiters that are "no frills", many have complained about the service, but just bring your Swedish speaking boyfriend and they have no problem serving you. It starts with a really delicious bread basket, and then from there you can choose an array of starters and entrees. The *best* dish of the night is SOS, an appetizer with four different ways to serve herring. The pate appetizer was also delicious. We had the veal minced meat with bacon and the cod for dinner, I loved the egg soufflé thing with the cod and the creamy mashed potatoes. The cod was cooked perfectly, and if you've never had veal, try the minced meat veal as it's super tasty and has about 20 flavors going on at once. They have English menus if you ask, and they're really not as mean as everyone said, they're just not the perky waitress from the Hard Rock Cafe down the block that you're used to maybe???

What a great start to our week in Gothenburg!! My daughter and her boyfriend thought this would start our week off great with dinner here, and they were right!! We started off with some Pinot and the herring! All the different marinades were delicious! Our table had the weinerschnitzel, Swedish meatballs, steak and halibut. Everything was cooked to perfection! The potatoes and fries were so fresh from the kitchen! The portions were very large! The bread basket had all the traditional breads and than some! The cracker bread, but bread and some baguette! The service was wonderful, we had an American and Swedish glad at our table to, I think indicate that English is spoken at the table! But service couldn't have been better!

Old school since 1934. We weren't leaving Sweden with out trying some of the local cuisine. When we arrived for dinner we were asked if we had reservations, luckily they had a table for two available. The place is not cheap but how many times does one visit Sweden. My brother ordered the steak and I ordered the lamb, plus two Swedish beers on tap. The food was really good and we both enjoyed our dishes which we shared.

This was recommended as a good local spot to check out since we were looking for a local pub. They had been hit by a large group of 30+ so the focus soon changed due to the volume. The food was fine, not great. The service was far from stellar. As far as this traveller is concerned..... do not sit back on your laurels and keep the level of excellence high at all times because there are many other choices out there. Too bad.

This is a old traditional restaurant with Swedish traditional food. I ordered local beer and Swedish Meatballs. Both of these and the service were excellent. Right in the heart of downtown Göteborg.

I am from Texas and was told that this would be a great place to try authentic Swedish food. While I am not an expert on the cuisine in this region, the food was really well done. Between the three of us, we had the lemon sole, boulliabase and duck leg. Two of us had a local Swedish beer. All three of us really enjoyed our food. What really stood out was the quality. Every part of the dish was fresh looking and all the ingredients tasted like they were the best quality. My buddy and I enjoyed the pilsner beers and they were better than anything I can get back home. If you want to try some Swedish food, this is a great place to do it

Dining at Kometen is like dinner at my grandma's. The interior dates back to an era when ships were still sailing to america with the promise of a more prosperous land. The people blend in the beigeish walls. They reflect a life of eating almost every meal with boiled potatoes. Needless to say, the atmosphere is quiet. It goes without saying that the food here is rustik. They serve traditional swedish plates, including Wallenbergare and crayfish. I have tried several of their plates, and my sole favorite is the Wallenbergare with lingonberries and cognac and cream gravy. You may also want to try their Wienerschnitzel which is well made. When they try to go out on a limb and make something from this century, i.e. glazed pork cheeks, they fail. I imagine it's like having your great aunt jailbreak you iphone for you, she's just not the right material for it. The traditional swedish plates alone would be enough for 5 stars, but they kind of lack in service and previously mentioned touch when it comes to "out side the box" courses (objectively, they are not that out side the box!). Leif Mannerström (famous owner) produces a decent bang for the buck, if you choose the Wallenbergare.

My coworker spotted this place walking through town. No one speaks English here! Very authentic Swedish food. The cod was killer, but the real star was something called Jansson's frestelse (Jansson's temptation). Oh, man! The service is very grumpy, but I can handle it.

I went with a friend for some traditional Swedish food. I had the meatballs and my friend, who wasn't hungry, had a dessert. The food and dessert were delicious and beautifully presented. The included breads were very good and we could help ourselves to as much coffee and biscuits as we liked at no extra charge. The staff were friendly and made the whole experience a real joy.

Wonderful traditional Swedish food and good service. I had Wallenbergare and a good local pilsner. The staff was attentive and polite. Absolutely no complaints. A positive and unique experience. I'd recommend Kometen to anyone visiting Göteborg.

One star for horrible service. Seriously, our waiter was rude, unfriendly and straight up miserable. We honestly felt he did not want us there because we were foreigners. Because right away when I asked him a question about what drinks they had, since we had not been given a drink menu, he just kept mumbling and pointing to the menu (that as I said had no drinks listed!) as if he was trying to pretend he did not speak English! We should have left right away but I really wanted to try Swedish food, which apparently is hard to find in Sweden. I ordered the wallenbergare veal and the first bite was tasty but then I could only eat half of it before I couldn't handle the taste of butter anymore. I think they melted two sticks of butter into this one ground patty. All the other wait staff were friendly. But the miserable jerk we got stuck with ruined our experience. The service DOES count along with the quality of food for a good experience and review.

Traditional swedish rustik homecooked favourites! Here made with grade A produce. The quality is the real bero here! One of my favourite restaurants that I will always come back to! Staff are professional and polite and restaurant runs like a well oiled machinery. No surprises but no disapointments either!
