Kona Canoe Club offers a historic dining experience with oceanfront views. It is a notable spot for both locals and visitors. Ambiance and Views: The restaurant’s open-air setting provides unobstructed views of the ocean and stunning sunsets. The atmosphere is charming and romantic. Menu Highlights: Seafood is a prominent feature of the menu, with fresh fish sourced daily from local fishermen. For dessert, the Kona Inn Mud Pie is a standout choice. Service and Pricing: The restaurant is on the pricier side, but the cost is justified by the quality of food and the exceptional views. Overall, the Kona Canoe Club offers a memorable dining experience, especially for those looking to enjoy fresh seafood in a historic, oceanfront setting.

Came for the happy hour and it didn't disappoint!! I had the $12 shrimp bucket and a cup of clam chowder. The clam chowder is possibly the best I've ever had. I'm always on the hunt for a clam chowder without bacon and I finally found it on island. The shrimp were deveined and very easy to peel. House made cocktail sauce with horseradish. Oceanfront views!! I will definitely be back 🤙💖 mahalo

Google
Situated in a prime waterfront location, the restaurant offered a mixed dining experience. While the drinks were acceptable, the calamari starter was a standout dish. The pork sliders and onion rings were average. Disappointingly, the fish tacos fell short of expectations despite positive reviews from fellow patrons. In my opinion, they were among the most underwhelming fish tacos I've ever tasted.

Google
Great location and view, but food was mediocre at best. I had the beef tacos and they were just edible. The meat was overseasoned and they had way too much cheese. The salsa tasted like it was straight from a warm jar, while the tortilla chips were a bit chewy. My wife had a fish sandwich and it was fine. Overall, a great location with adequate service, but the food was overpriced and very underwhelming.

Google
After coming off the tasteless Pride of America, it was heaven to find a local place that served local beer and great food. We sat at the bar on Christmas Day and had some of the best food and beer we’ve ever had. The manager at the bar was phenomenal and was a gracious server. Highly, highly recommend. The views are some of the best on the island. Go here; you won’t be disappointed. The chicken salad was served on a papaya. It was heaven.

Google
Great service, our waitress Vita had too many tables for one person and still gave us fast and happy service food was delicious and drinks were nice and strong.... ant the view can't be beat.... highly recommend.

Google
The chicken salad was so tasty. The toasted coconut on the chicken breast and salad, and the generous portion of papaya was a perfect combination!

Google
After a long morning of visiting some of the sites, we stopped in for lunch and had a great time. I enjoyed the fish tacos with rice and beans and it was excellent! Looked like the deck and outside dining area could use a freshening up with some cleaning and a paint job but overall in decent shape. The waitress was very nice and with a beautiful view, we had a very pleasant lunch.

Yelp
Great views and nice outdoor seating area. It's in the center of the touristy street. Their menu has lots of burger and fries options. I really enjoyed their potato salad! Server was very helpful navigation the menu with my child's allergies!

Yelp
Food: So... the food was decent. Calamari was different but good, onion rings were good (but hard to mess those up...) chicken sandwich and sliders were good. Pork sandwich was okay and my wife's fish tacos were good but small. Overall the food was good but not amazing. I hope the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce really are made in-house... Service: Our waitress was so sweet, probably 1/2 the reason we decided to eat here! Read a few other reviews of some psycho servers from this place, glad we didn't get them! But word to the owners - hire more sweet older ladies to work here and rope in people like us! :) Atmosphere: Probably the best part of this place is the view. If you're on the edge, the water just about comes up to your table! It's pretty cool to see at night when the sun sets. Outside seating, beautiful view and a nice shopping area nearby. Price: I know it's Hawaii, but the prices did seem a bit higher than we have been paying on this vacation. Of course, it probably was because of the "view tax". ??? Expect 20-25$ per person for just okay food. Overall: Pros - the view and our waitress. Cons - Mediocre food and the prices. It's not a horrible place, just kind of mid.

Yelp
Stopped by for afternoon cocktails. We were able to snag an ocean view table without a wait. Our server and other staff were all very friendly. The drinks were delicious, especially the toasted coconut one, yum!

Yelp
Service is great here, the fish n chips were awesome crinkle cut fries giant pieces of fish bucket of peel and eat shrimp is yummy for your tummy and the servers are so nice, great spot for an afternoon iced tea on their patio . It gets a great breeze .

Yelp
What a view !! The Kona Canoe Club sits right on the water. This is a really good restaurant. The service is over the top efficient & friendly. The ambiance is obvious (see photos) .. the mahi-mahi fish & chips along with the Hawaiian quesadilla was excellent. They have a resident cat named Gary (pic attached).. he greets customers as they approach the entrance. He is VERY affectionate & according to Gary the cat, petting is required before being seated .. Don't miss the Kona Canoe Club when you're visiting the Kona Coast.

Yelp
Family decided to stop here for lunch after shopping at the Wednesday farmers market and doing a little shopping in the area. The view is amazing and a great place to enjoy lunch. I had the Creamsicle martini and calamari sandwich. I love getting calamari sandwiches because it reminds me of fried abalone. Calamari sandwich was good, could have used a little more seasoning. The sandwich is better with the tartar sauce and cream sauce that comes with the fish tacos.

Yelp
Like so many places around here, how can you go wrong with bayside patio dining? We started with Mai Tais (they were average), see my pic with bay view in the background. We followed this with a chicken slider and a pork slider. These were served on regular baked dinner buns. The pork and chicken were fine. The service was a bit slow.

Yelp
Visited here everyday during my visit for breakfast. I recommend this spot for a good breakfast. I'm not sure about lunch or dinner but if is anything like the breakfast it is a good spot. We never had rsvp but they were always able to seat us with no problem. I recommend and will visit again when I return.

Yelp
Beautiful view from the bar. We ordered a couple of cocktails and nachos while we enjoyed the sunset.

Yelp
6/17/2023 Kona Canoe Club Kona Inn Shopping Village 75-5744 Alii Dr Ste 21 Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 I went looking for a light dinner while in Kailua. This sandwich and salad place fit the bill since their limited menu featured a "Traditional Tossed Caesar Salad". I sat myself down on the patio which has a nice view of the pier. I ordered the chicken version and the waitress said it would "be a minute" due to staffing issues. That was a euphemism for a half hour, but I was on vacation so I just enjoyed the cool breeze and view. The salad was plated well but I could immediately tell the Romaine was not fresh by the browning of the cuts. But thanks to refrigeration technology, the lettuce was still crispy. The chicken was a little dry, not very well seasoned but edible. The croutons came out of a bag, the Parmesan was skimpy and the dressing was equally applied; when I was done the plate was very clean. There is much room for improvement for this salad and I should have started by asking for more dressing on the side. It also seemed like my waitress was going through the motions and not really engaged. I cannot recommend and will not repeat.

Yelp
One of the best oceanside restaurants in Kona for consistent great food and good vibes! For a deal on drinks AND food go during happy hour. But prices are always reasonable so you will enjoy a meal here any time of day.

Yelp
My daughters and I stopped in for a late lunch, and ordered a few appetizers to share. We split the sliders, french fries and potato skins. Everything was tasty, freshly made and ideal for a late lunch. The staff was very friendly, and engaging. The view! That alone is worth dining here! The bonus is the fantastic food! Wish I could captured a photo of the food before we eat.

Yelp
Went there on a whim. It was soooo good. The food was quick and tasted amazing. Our waiter Eric had fun with our group and made our experience extremely enjoyable. 20 merits!! lol.

Yelp
I Can't make this stuff up!!! We arrived last night July 26th at 1945 and were looking forward to having a meal there. I saw the sever who looked at whom I thought was a bartender or manager. And he is yelling we are closed and not accepting any other people because 20 folks just came in!! This is insane for my thinking! Hawaii has been hurt from Covid and more. Businesses are suffering and yet me (living in Hawaii, and my friend from Switzerland first time here), has to witness this. He ask twice to go back and talk with this guy but I would not allow. My answer is this post and never eating here. Only place I have been refused service in Hawaii. Instead of yelling at us he could have atleast explained what was going on and why. That's my 2 cent.

Yelp
We could not pass up the opportunity to dine here with it being a sister restaurant of our local haunt - Wind & Sea! We visited on Father's Day with my Dad and husband. We were sat right away with a table for 7 by the water. Our waitress was patient but attentive as we took our time deciding what to order. The food was yummy and we had a blast watching the waves crash over the sea wall. The laidback atmosphere was perfect and we all enjoyed our time and food. We definitely recommend!

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch here. Beautiful view of the ocean. Great location. It was our first time here. Our server was friendly and courteous. I had the mahi mahi and chips. Tasty. Fries were huge. My husband had the calamari with coleslaw, it already came with rice. Well..they forgot the rice, so they brought it out quickly.

Yelp
We were walking around the shops near the Kona Canoe Club. I came across a cat on the rail of the patio dining. He was sweet and rubbing against my hand. That did it , I had to eat there. Gary, the cat was right. It was a great place I had the Mahi Mahi Fish and Chips. It was excellent. The server was pleasant and attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that visits Kona.

Steve W.

Yelp
The view is incredible with tables right on the water. We stopped in as part of a cruise so it was busy. A little patience goes along way. We had drinks and appetizers, the bikini Tini is delicious. A very memorable time. Denise, our server was very friendly and accommodating.
google avatar

Ken T.

Yelp
The food was solid. Nothing extraordinary but good flavor overall. The fish sandwich and the calamari sandwiches were the best items we ordered. The calamari sandwich had a very fresh, Light flavor. Very much enjoyed that one. The clam chowder was a little thick for our liking and not a traditional chowder but good. The waitresses were attentive and pleasant although it took an unusually long time to seat our party of 6. The restaurant was relatively empty but they seemed to be flustered initially and looking for someone to ask permission. I would recommend the restaurant for a quick bite. Nice view and solid food.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful aloha spirit! Precious was a very accommodating server with a great sense of humor, and calm under pressure. We'll come back just because of her personality and professionalism. She also gave us local advice and insider tips on music and food.
google avatar

Jack A.

Yelp
My wife and I visited here for lunch today. It took at least 10-15 minutes to be seen by a server. Service after that was incredibly slow, despite there not being that many people dining at the location. She had the calamari sandwich which she didn't like, and couldn't finish. I had the pork tacos, which were okay but overpriced. I would not recommend the side of rice and beans. Our Mai tai and key lime martini were okay. Overall service was poor, food was poor to passable. We will not be coming back. However, I will say the view was great.

Yelp
I visited this place on January 23, 2024 with a friend and had a very upsetting experience. Describing the server as hostile and rude is an understatement - he actually yelled at us and we were horrified. When we got up to leave, he threw ice cubes at us. I had written a review describing him as a whack job but later on I realized the man must have a mental disorder and was having a manic episode. So I removed that review. Still, though, the restaurant should not employ a person who can't control his behavior. Although I have lived in Kona for years and am within walking distance of Kona Canoe Club, I will never go back there.

Don O.

Yelp
Sorry folks, absolutely nothing on the menu for gluten free. In addition, they were out of most food items on the menu at noon on a Saturday. This place used to be great but now it isn't worth the price or your time. Unlike other negative comments, our waitress was great.
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
I didn't get a picture of our food but the fish tacos and fish and chips were amazing. The waitress was helpful and the place was perfect right next beach

Yelp
One of the best things on a summer afternoon is to cool off at a seaside table here. Outdoor seating on the lanai is relaxing and refreshing. Tables are clean and our server was super friendly and had a great smile. My burger was perfectly cooked, nice amount of condiments and veggie, and happy fries (as opposed to sad, soggy ones)! My bf had a monster-sized club that he really enjoyed. The only drawback was how closely crowded together the tables were. Getting in and out of a seat to get to the restroom to wash off the remains of my lovely, messy burger meant moving the table away from me so I wouldn't bump into the guy seated directly behind me.

Troy M.

Yelp
Dine in | Lunch | $100+ I had family visit and on their final day we took them here, was sadly disappointed especially in the service. Our waitress forgot our water until my wife reminded her 2x. she was slow and unnattentive and as you can see by the photos attached it was almost empty in the restaurant. She continued to be forgetful during our order but others around us were served much more quickly and promptly. They messed up our order and my table was almost done eating when my granddaughter and my food finally arrived . Although I live on the island and love kona I will not frequent this restaurant again. I am saddened because it happened to us once before in this same restaurant and I had hope it was an anomaly, but alas it was not. Again I am disappointed and will not be back and I will not recommend it to family and friends. Troy

Yelp
The calamari strips are worth the trip alone! I have NEVER had calamari like this before and it's the thing I look most forward to when coming to the island! Literally I could eat dinner here every night!
google avatar

Linda P.

Yelp
5 stars, specifically for our server Kati. She was so kind and told us her personal favorites of the menu (we got the calamari, the coconut shrimp, crab cakes, and the clam chowder). Everything was wonderful and the view was beautiful too. She let us take our time and was so attentive for anything we needed. Thank you for a lovely lunch!
google avatar

Russell M.

Yelp
Had the fish sandwich and it was Mahi Mahi absolutely fantastic. I forgot to take a picture and by the time I thought about it that bad boy was gone. Jeanette was our server and her service was outstanding. This is a great little place right on the water in Kailua Bay. I really do like the atmosphere sitting on the patio with the tiki torches burning, waves crashing in the background and great music playing. We have eaten at a lot of really great places while we have been in Hawaii and this one is probably so far one of my favorites. It's just so laid back and really made me feel like wanting to hang out. I think I will come back tomorrow. Lol. This is a must if you want a relaxing place to eat and have a few drinks.

Liz C.

Yelp
Excellent food! Classic Caesar salad was just right. Also enjoyed the BLT - bacon was crispy and avocado was fresh. Chicken satay was also excellent. Skewered chicken was seasoned perfectly.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
Food was great, the service was great. The price wasn't too bad, nice view I would highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Phillip J.

Yelp
Server was great but this has got to be the most tasteless most expensive meal we ever had this vacation trip. Skip it. You can thank me later.
google avatar

Tammy L C.

Yelp
Called in order gone to pick up bartender said did not have it who did I talk to? Well I order, now your saying you do not have the order, said "I had a attitude and bad moon". They completely did not make the good order I called in the n called me names. Poor service, very poor responsibility, never sending my customer to Kona Canon Club again.
google avatar

Laura O.

Yelp
Located in the heart of tourist land, this place is a good option for brunch if you don't want to wait. It wasn't the best loco moco I've ever had, but it did the job. Also tried a bite of the breakfast burrito and French toast. Again, everything was ok, nothing special.

Katherine K.

Yelp
Don't bother. The food was terrible and took almost 40 min it was to come out in the early afternoon post lunch. My party of 8 had a variety of items. Main complaint was no flavor, everything seemed to be the opposite of fresh. The calamari strips were more breading than calamari which had no flavor. Under seasoned French Dip, and bland sandwiches and tacos. Don't go here for food. The service was terrible, the waiter kept forgetting things when he visited our table and taking our orders. The view was the only saving grace. The tables and chairs didn't seem clean, and there were tables left un-bused for the entire hour that we were there. Maybe a good spot for the view but terrible as a restaurant.
google avatar

Roger P.

Yelp
Never coming here again. Food is subpar. Cold Our server didn't know the menu he's supposed to know. The beer I got had some black mildew looking flakes. Not sure if from the beer or glass. Fish tacos were cold and no taste The menu needs to be updated. It seems that that it was not proofread. Food was overly priced. Avoid this place if your life depended on it.

Yelp
Sweet little stop while shopping DT Kona. It's attached to a shopping strip & there's a much fancier restaurant around the corner, but once you sit down the view is breathtaking! Nice menu, great service, we'll be back !!

Norma G.

Yelp
Fish in fish sandwich was not cooked. Hamburger was blah. Overpriced. Staff not personable.

Sherry R.

Yelp
Delicious food! Fries are crispy and perfectly salted. The sliders were super tasty; and the service was great!
google avatar

Jill M.

Yelp
Happy Hour with football on, outside covered seating (because yes it does rain in Kona) and waterfront can't be beat! A frozen margarita no salt, $3.95, works for me after shopping up and down Alii Drive. Mai Tai, $5.95, got a very good rating from guest to my right. Seems good for a large group as eight men are rearranging the tables to face the game on the (sort of small) screen. It's okay, the ocean is better to watch. Service was slow after our first round.

Missy Anne S.

Yelp
Service was extremely slow. Three servers and the place was not that crowded. If you want to wait 30-45 min for an order f fries then go there
google avatar

Elaine C.

Yelp
Great views, food and drinks! I don't know why this place isn't busier, the view are fabulous and the service is great. Had the Mai Tai - it was so good. My husband had a hamburger and I had the french dip -- both were very good. We ended up going 3 times during our visit!
google avatar

Jefferson O.

Yelp
Come for the fish sandwich!!!! I always get it Cajun style. I don't generally like tarter sauce, but I can't get enough of it here. Just wow!!!! For dessert try the macadamia nut pie with macadamia ice cream. Think pecan pie with ice cream, but 100 times better!!!!!! Great views too!!
google avatar

Jill E.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch today while we were in Kona. We've walked by it each time we are on the island and have never stopped to eat. The view alone is worth a star especially at night when the sun is setting. I thought my meal was probably worth four stars, my husband said his was only worth three. Decided I'd have an actual meal since I try to limit the bread I eat. Had a calamari steak which was breaded but so lightly that it was hardly there. Two huge pieces so brought one home for lunch tomorrow. Two scoops of white rice and some sautéed veggies. I'm looking forward to seeing how it heats up and tastes tomorrow. Hubs had a BLT with macaroni salad. He said the sandwich was ok, but not enough bacon although there was avocado on it. Side choices are macaroni, potato salad or Cole slaw. Fries cost extra. He said the salad needed a bit more mayo. Service was fine and our server very pleasant and we had instant refills on iced tea when the glasses were empty,. Would we go back there, maybe.
google avatar

Jim O.

Yelp
Great views of the bay! Shared a house salad, with some very good dressing. Also tried a French dip sandwich- excellent, stacked with a lot of meat and just the right amount of cheese side of macaroni salad also perfect . Washed it down with a large colors light. Kindra was a great waitress!
google avatar

Mauling W.

Yelp
I remembered coming here 11 years ago. It was our first time and food was good. I'm glad the restaurant is still here and brought back good memories. However, food was mediocre. My tuna salad was fresh. My daughter's lonely burger was good according to her. My son's fish plate was in the bland side and he wasn't a fan of tartar sauce. The volcano nachos was a disappointment. Every ingredient tasted pre-packaged like the pace picante salsa, refried beans from a can, and the pork needed salt. It was a disappointment. The only good thing was the view of the ocean.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Stellar view of sun setting over Kailua-Kona waters. We watch the canoe club workouts and preparation for the Saturday competition. The Kailua Pork sliders were smoky and appropriately salty. The Happy Hour Margarita was strong but had an artificial tater- might have been the mixer rather than fresh squeezed limes. Excellent and attentive service; server stopped by to check on us several times and also to last call for Happy Hour. Next time will try the ribs which table to us ordered; after the ribs arrived, we heard only "Yum," "delicious," And "I want the last one" from them.
google avatar

Erica T.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch with the family while shopping in Kona. The fact that it's right on the water and the shady breeze was very inviting! The service was friendly and the food was really good. They do have a kid's menu also. I would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Brian D.

Yelp
This was our first stop on our Hawaii trip. It was a warm day in early October. Seating was quick but the sun cooked us until we were able to move into the shade. Drinks were expensive but this IS Hawaii. Food also expensive, refer to previous statement. I had Koloa pork sliders which were delicious and fries. Staff were all very kind and talkative. Tons of shopping right next door.
