If you ever find yourself in Bad Ischl, you must stop by Konditorei Zauner for dessert. 🍰 The pastries are as beautiful as they are delicious — delicate layers, rich flavors, and the freshest berries you can imagine. Everything is reasonably priced for the quality, making it an indulgence that feels as good for your taste buds as it does for your wallet. Sitting here feels like stepping into a piece of history (they’ve been perfecting their craft since 1832!) while enjoying pure sweetness. Absolute heaven for dessert lovers!

One of the best patisseries I've visited. They say it's the best in Austria. The place is beautiful and inviting, nicely decorated with lots of space to sit. They have a large selection of cakes. We ordered coffee and the famous Zsuner's Kaiser cake. The coffee was great, the cake was drlicious, chocolate with nuts and marzipan and maybe other things. I enjoyed it very much. Before we left, we bought more cakes to take with us. Highly recommended.

Such a beautiful place with very friendly staff and very tasty cookies. We finally managed to eat the real Ischler. We're hoping back tomorrow to buy more as it was so delicious. Thank you guys for your hard work as the place was so crowded. They must be inhumanly popular.

We come to Zauner regularly and like the quality of their products, the ambiance and their service. BUT, this time the head waiter displayed unacceptable behaviour. He quarrelled with his colleagues and as a result we were ignored by both and not served despite several attempts to raise attention. When we decided to leave he came and he rudely ordered us to sit down! We went then to Zauner Grand Esplanade where the service was impeccable as usual.

We ordered some cakes, they gave us a number and told us to sit down and that the waiter would come. We waited half an hour, but no waiter came, even though I tried to get their attention several times. I went to the cashier and asked if I could take my order and pay, since I saw it already prepared on the counter behind her. She said I couldn’t pay there, only with the waiter, and told me to sit down. 🙄 Another 10 minutes passed, still no one came, even though I asked three times — they just ignored me. Finally, a waiter came, I explained the situation, and he brought the cakes. We didn’t order drinks anymore, because that would probably have taken another half an hour. I asked to pay separately, but he rudely said he didn’t have time for that, we had to pay together. (Maybe they are only rude like this to Hungarian and Slovak guests. 🫠 )I paid in one bill, but it wasn’t worth the long wait. The cake was already dry, the cream wasn’t tasty either. The place is overrated with rude waiters. Why can’t they just serve the order right away? 💁‍♀️

I had some very fond memories of the place and finally managed to visit after many years since my last visit and was excited. The place was packed full with people. Waiters struggled and we waited a long time for the orders to come. One of the older waiters was a bit on the rude side initially pushing customers out of his way when we came in. Later he complained about things (incl. some new coworker) in front of us and I even heard him swear in front of the neighboring table. Total way to ruin the experience. Whatever problems happen behind the scenes, the customer should not be the one hearing about them. As for the interior, it's a bit on the dates side. A place like that can get away with that but I never felt so uncomfortable there as I did this time. The cakes are still top notch and I'd give it 5 stars. We had some of them packed for take away which wasn't done very nicely. Instead of putting them into a sold cardboard box they where just wrapped in some paper making everything stick. When we unpacked it just a little later bits and pieces just came off those nice looking cakes and really ruined it for me. I'm sorry, but I don't see myself ever coming back with service this dreadful.

Google
The classic in Ischl, and a must-go for the old-time imperial atmosphere. The sweets are amazing as well, and be sure to take some home as they are unique. The food choices are limited and nothing special. I like the open-faced sandwiches well enough -- they're a 60s time warp -- and there are some other Austrian standbys. Service was friendlier than it may have been in years gone by, but a bit indifferent and definitely a bit slow. But you're not there for a quick meal, but for the experience, which is worth it.

Yelp
Yes, this place is a bit of a tourist attraction, but the Lehar schnitten and the Zauner Törtchen were absolutely wonderful. It's a busy place and ordering is a bit chaotic, but it's worth it. They have some outdoor seating and indoor seating. It looked like you choose your sweet and pay, and then they bring your food to you. I got mine to go and they wrapped it nicely. They also seemed to have some open-faced sandwiches if you wanted a light lunch before indulging in the sweets.

Yelp
Dined here on a rainy afternoon after taking the Katrin Cable Car up the mountain. Zauner is situated right along the river. The interior feels classically Parisian which is a perfect setting in this idilic Austrian town. There are more options than you could ever want and all are done perfectly. You order at the counter and take a number then a server brings your pastries and drinks to the table. Great experience.

Yelp
Zauner is the kind of place you fell in love with. So typical Austrian, lovely and full with sweet treasures! There are two of them, the biggest one in the old city and a smaller one along the river Taurn, on the Esplanade. They have so many desserts, chocolate, cakes, ice cream and drinks it makes it hard for you to order. And once you've tasted it, you will promise yourself you will be back someday! Sitting outside in the terrace along the river, enjoying some delicious ice cream preparation, was a very agreeable and wonderful moment. I was in the area with Austrian friends, and they wanted to go (back) to this awesome Kaffeekonditorei so badly we did a 50 mn detour on our way home. And it was more than worth it...

Yelp
Famous and typical Austrian Cafe, long tradition and very famous for the Zauner Stollen, a yummy chocolate nut praline cake. The views at the Hasenalle cafe are simply stunning and the chairs are very comfy!

Yelp
This place is old school and cool. Step in the doorway and you are instantly transported back a half-century or more. The decor is beautiful and the ambiance is 19th century elegant. Best of all...the pastries and sweets are still first rate. Zauner has been around since the early 1800s and was baking for royalty during the Austian-Hungarian Monarchy. If you are in the town and need something sweet after a fine meal, then take a stroll to Zauner. Besides this mainstreet location, there is another down along the river.

Yelp
Famous bakery the Kaiser used to frequent. A little bougie, but worth a visit. Quite full of tourists. Overpriced for what you get, but I suppose you're paying for the atmosphere and history as well.

Yelp
Super delicious cakes, especially the Swiss roll cake. They used very nice ingredients to make the taste so different. I like it so much that want to go back the store to get some cakes.
