We stayed here for two nights, with a day's hiking in between. I chose it because it's easily accessible by public transport, which was very convenient for us, and amazing when you consider that it's in the middle of beautiful nature. We were given a very pretty room, facing back towards the mountain, which felt very cozy and was very quiet. The room was comfortable, clean and we had lots of space, which we always appreciate. We had breakfast and supper here both nights, despite arriving on the late side the first night. We were served a fixed 3-course dinner on both nights (different each night), which was in both cases really delicious - a highlight of the stay. Despite there being larger parties around, the service was very attentive and friendly. The dining room feels almost like being in a friend's house - albeit a friend with a charming historic lodge! All in all, I'd say this is a wonderful (if slightly pricy) base for hiking the surroundings, with its own unique charm. I hope to be able to return in future.

Lovely place with excellent service and superb vegan food (tell them in advance that you are coming if you’re vegan as me). Outstanding surroundings for mountain walking. Knutshø, the mountains behind the hotel is well known for its rich mountain flora and across the valley you’ll walk among majestic mountains like Snøhetta (2 286 meters). Definitely a favorite place to be in the world ❤️

On our way to Trondheim, we spent a night in one of their Cabins as a group of three. The personnel was kind and forthcoming and the Cabin was warm and Cozy (equipped with bath, showers and a kitchen). The surrounding view is stunning and I've especially enjoyed spending the morning hours in the small rocky botanical garden nearby. We have no complaints at all and really enjoyed our experience :)

I stayed for b&b. The room I had was very good. A mix of hotel and mountain cabin. En suite bathroom of considerable size. The breakfast is excellent, the service good. There is a railway station close by and I believe buses do stop on request here. Recommended for a stay. The restaurant has a reputation to be special but expensive, I did not try but did notice you can eat Muskox here, exclusive!

Very friendly and acommodating staff, the room was nice (charmingly rustic, as you would expect), had everything you need, and was very clean. Really nice breakfast buffet as well. Station, Fjellstue and the start of the trail all located within 200m. Quite moderat ascent into the mountains, so beginner friendly as well. Excellent start or end point for fjellturer, will come again! Thanks again for the nice stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights on 14, 15 and 16 July 2017. We were part of a walking group from Australia called Walkabout Gourmet. ||||This is not a large hotel but a cluster of small old timber buildings that hold the rooms. ||||We found the room 36 upstairs Spartan and unimaginative and very basic. ||||Our room faced the main highway and train track. There was excessive traffic noise all day although it quiet tend off at night mercifully. ||||The bathroom was very basic with no exhaust. There was a broken shower screen so that the door lacked a third element and didn't fully close - water got on the floor. ||||Wi-fi was non-existent in the room. You had to be in the reception or nearby salon to get one bar of three. It was very variable and at times gave you the message "No internet connection". ||||We had no fridge, no tissues, no iron, no hairdryer - but you could get one from reception by asking. ||||We had to lay our suitcases on the sofa in order to open them. Even though the room had a basic small coffee table, sofa and two chairs, it was too small with no room to open anything. The wardrobe had shelves but that was no good to us as we didn't wish to unpack as we were only there for 3 days. ||||||Worst of all, there was no guest laundry despite the number of walkers who would have sweated and need to wash their unders. ||||||Breakfast was over crowded with not enough food - they kept refreshing the bread. The cucumber and tomato plate never got replenished. There were only paper bags for our sandwiches (Nothing plastic) but hard to queue up all the time for food.

Beautiful historic hotel in a majestic environment. Absolutely stunning, even in rainy weather. An interesting "mountain botanical garden" is situated just next to the hotel and worth a visit. Friendly staff that speaks English, but strangely enough not Norwegian. The only downside is the rooms. Our was renovated and nice, but since this is an old hotel with very old buildings it means there is no sound proofing whatsoever! You will hear EVERYTHING going on outside and in the rooms around you. We had a bottom floor room and this should be avoided at all cost since people moving around in the room above you at midnight will drive you mad...

This has been an important lodging for travellers between Oslo and Trondheim for at lesst 300 years. There are 20 buildings here. Not very modern, of course, but the atmosphere is great. The dinner was also good. The same goes fir the breakfast.
