A true gem in the Bay Area, Kongunadu offers an authentic and delightful culinary journey through the flavors of its namesake region in Southern India. My experience here was absolutely fantastic, elevated by incredible food and impeccable service.
Our server, Bunny, was a star. He was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu with fantastic recommendations that turned out to be the highlights of our meal. His suggestions truly made our dining experience special.
We started with the Chicken Chintamani, a specialty of the Kongunadu region. Made with country chicken, it was wonderfully light, less oily than typical preparations, and cooked to perfection. The spice level was spot-on, delivering a flavorful kick without being overwhelming. We also tried the Vanjaram Tawa Fish Fry. The beauty of this dish was in its simplicity; the fish was incredibly fresh, the flavors were clean yet profound, and it was cooked flawlessly.
On Bunny's recommendation, we ordered the Madhampatty Special Biryani, and it was a showstopper. The biryani was incredibly aromatic and flavorful. Bunny mentioned that it's prepared without any ajinomoto or artificial flavorings, and you can truly taste the difference—it had a wonderful, wholesome, homemade quality to it.
To round off our meal, we tried the unique Rose Paneer Goli Soda, which was a refreshing treat. But the absolute must-try is the Elaneer Karupatti Halwa. This tender coconut and palm jaggery dessert was the perfect, unique ending to an amazing meal. Don't leave without trying it!
Overall, Kongunadu is a standout restaurant for its authentic, high-quality food and exceptional service. Highly recommended!
