The warm, fuzzy feeling of eating something familiar is second to none, and Konia manages to evoke that nostalgic feeling while creating something unique worth crossing the city for. The platter comes abundant with grilled lemongrass beef and pork sausage (nem nướng) meatballs, which are amazing when wrapped with the accompanying vegetables. The beef carries a bold, aromatic lemongrass perfume and meaty depth, while the pork is juicier, sweeter and lightly smoky from the grill. Each bite isn’t complete without the fish sauce, balanced with sweet/tang/umami that the rice vermicelli readily soaks up. The deep-fried sticky rice stood out for its crispy and crackly exterior, with a softly chewy inside. The texture is addictive, although it leans a touch greasy, making it an occasional guilty pleasure. Within, a savory-sweet medley of minced pork, silky Vietnamese pâté, wood ear mushrooms, and pork floss creates a rich, umami core, with each bite contrasted with a sweet Thai chilli sauce and crunchy pickled carrots and daikon.
