19 Best Restaurants in Berlin

"Even when it's the dead of winter to the the hottest day in summer, there will be a queue for the most famous fast food in Berlin, the currywurst: a pork sausage that’s boiled, fried, cut, and then slathered in ketchup, spices, and curry powder. Konnopke, perched under the U-Bahn tracks in Prenzlauer Berg since 1930, makes the most famous wurst in town. Like the food itself, the setting is simple: a food stand where you order from a window and an area next door where you can sit if you’d like, though most simply stand outside while they nosh." - Liz Humphreys

"Along with Kreuzberg’s Curry 36, Konnopke’s in Prenzlauer Berg is one of the most famous currywurst stands in Berlin . The two couldn’t be more different aesthetically, though. While the former has a fairly loud and brash character, Konnopke’s is a gentler, family-run affair that has been serving up street snacks in the same location since 1930. Set below the U-Bahn tracks at a busy rail and traffic junction, the stall offers currywurst (chopped pork sausage in a sauce of ketchup and curry powder) with or without skin as well as a range of other sausages, meatballs, and french fries. Enjoy your treat at one of the standing tables or, in colder weather, in the covered eating area."

One of the most well known and oldest Currywurst place in Berlin, there are many debates which one is the best. 📍Place: it is located at Eberswalder Straße UBahn station, so easily approachable from downtown. It's basically a kiosk which has some outside seats covered from rain, but it's not heated in the winter so dress accordingly. 🍛 Food: we have tired the classic setup, 1 currywurst with fries, ketchup and mayo for €6.9. (2 currywursts would be €10.9). Overall it tasted good, however I would have expected a little more curry flavour overall, the wurst had quite neutral taste. Fries are from frozen potatoes, nothing extra. 👩🏻‍🍳 Service: it's basically an over the counter service from a kiosk, they speak English and explain the menu if it's not clear. You get your food immediately, so it's up to its name.

I don’t like this seriously, it is very salty but since this is Germany’s traditional food, I think we tourists should probably give it s try. I like the store’s design I like it open-air. Overall service was friendly.

Google
Wurst and pommes were delicious but not sure if it’s anything too special, despite the never endung queue. The place is definitely quite a vibe with a sheltered seating area too but the price seems a little too high.

Google
Caveats: I'm not Germanic. But these sausages be good. Ended up getting three. Good atmosphere too, reminded me of Hitchcock's "The Birds." Only open until 1800, so plan for an early wurst.

Saw this place on Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" and I must say that it has stood the test of time. Definitely worth a visit, even if it is far from many of the main attractions. The wait is worth it! Nice staff as well. Try the currywurst paired with pommes frites and a beer!

Google
Had far far better currywurst in Berlin and all over Germany. It's hard to get it wrong. This is average but quite small portions and very overpriced because of its reputation. Big queues and nowhere to sit as well.

Rockafrika

Google
Curryworst...sadly Konnopke's is not what it used to be. Now just living off its name and former good reputation, the currywurst is average at best. Not enough curry powder, too much ketchup and the bratwurst was tasteless, probably from being smothered in ketchup. While there's always a queue, it does move quickly and the staff are friendly enough, but frankly it's overpriced and over-rated. Think I'll stick to the Ketwurst at Alain's Snack instead.

It was great to come back to Berlin after 18 years and seeing that not only Konnopkes had survived but is thriving. This time, I visited with my two sons, great food, great service, I even bought a T-shirt. You have to visit here if you love Currywurst.

Yelp
Currywurst is a must in Berlin. It is a popular and traditional German fast food. It consists of steamed, fried pork sausage cut into slices and covered with a curry ketchup and curry powder. It is usually served with a side of French fries and you can have it with curry ketchup and mayonnaise. This popular small food stand is located under the U-Bahn track. After getting your food, you can stand at one of the high-top tables or sit inside the small covered seating area. I attempted to come half an hour before they closed, but I think they were sold out. We came in the morning the next time. There was quite a long line when we arrived, but it moved fairly quickly. We ordered a currywurst, a bratwurst, and fries. I didn't care for the currywurst, especially the skin. I preferred the bratwurst, but I enjoyed the fries even more so. I wished we ordered a larger order of it.

Yelp
This place is a famous currywurst stand under the Magistrate's Viaduct in Schönhauser Allee. I don't want to miss out on this experience. I was lucky enough to come early during lunchtime and bought Vegan Currywurst. The price was low compared to other currywurst places. TBH it was not bad at all. I thought it would taste bad, but it surprisingly tasted good. I have dietary restrictions, and I like it when a restaurant does have other options than meat. You should get some of the merch if traveling since they exclusively sell it in the restaurant/stand. But if you love sausages, this place is must visit next time you visit Berlin or even for the locals.
google avatar

Michael U.

Yelp
Tucked under the Magistrate's Viaduct in Schönhauser Allee since Max Konnopke moved to Berlin there is probably no more iconic eatery in the capital than Konnopke's Imbiss, the East Berlin stand surviving a World War, communism and reunification while serving up what is arguably the best Currywurst in town. Begun with just Sausages in 1930, Currywurst becoming a focus one year later with Ketchup not offered till 1960, those visiting Konnopke's Imbiss can expect long lines of folks entering or exiting the U-Bahn with folks from Prenzlauer Berg wait for tables alongside tourists from around the world. No frills and fast-paced, elderly clerks moving the queue like a well-oiled machine, choices are made from mounted menus with €2,50 yielding a steamed and fried Pork Sausage sliced and covered with spicy Ketchup plus a shake of Curry Powder on top. Juicy underneath a snappy Casing, the same to be said of a traditional Brat and Veal-based Bockwurst, fans of Mustard will find Konnopke's more spicy than average while Fries cooked crisp and almost oilless are only €1 but generally in need of some extra Salt.

Yelp
Let's not over glamorize what currywurst is. It's a hot dog cut into small pieces, then topped with Heinz ketchup and curry powder sprinkled on top. It's not a real complex thing and it is a strange meal for Berlin to take ownership over. That being said, it is good for what it is as long as you are not expecting something mindblowing. The sausage usually comes with fries with a big helping of ketchup and mayo on top. It fills you up and is a nice snack to pair alongside some brewskies.
google avatar

Wellington C.

Yelp
After watching Anthony Bourdain rave about currywurst, we had to try for ourselves. Unfortunately it's just one of those things that you try once and probably don't try again. It's that I don't like hot dogs and ketchup, it's just the curry powder doesn't make a good flavor combination and I like curry too. Just another Bourdain location that the wife and I can cross off our list.

Yelp
Having never been to Berlin but knowing all there is about currywurst (what can I say? I love sausages!) I was sent here by a native Berliner. Located under the U-Bahn, this food stand was established in 1913 and is known as a Berlin institution: always a long line, the ladies operate the place like a well-oiled machine and speak to you in German. Minimal English except for mayo and ketchup so bust out the sign language! ;-) If there is a language we yelpers know, it's the language of food. Their fries are golden yellow and crispy, while the sausages are fresh and plump. Make sure to dump curry ketchup (and mayo!) on it. It was the perfect cheap snack to fill our bellies with, before the beer drinking that ensued at Pratergarden nearby.

Yelp
Unlike some of the other Currywurst places I visited in Berlin, I had to make a farther, specific trip out to this one. Other than it being a couple train rides away from where I was staying, the location relative to the train station is convenient. You do have to take a couple of crosswalks just to make it to the stand, which sits directly under the elevated tracks. In this dark area, Konnopke's is the shining light. Also of convenience to you are English menus posted around the tables so you won't have to struggle so much when deciding what to get. I ordered what I've gotten everywhere else: Currywurst & Pommes (fries) and added a local Pils to drink. The gentleman taking my order was nice and was the one who came out to bus the tables and check on guests in the tent. The tent seating is a nice shelter from the rain/wind with better lighting than outside. The food didn't let me down, and the prices were reasonable. Worth the extra trip!
google avatar

WT F.

Yelp
For such an institution, I was expecting some knock-my-socks-off amazing currywurst. What we ended up getting was a solid 3.5-4 star currywurst. The fries were delicious and cooked perfectly. When we went there was no lineup; just a few patrons shoving copious amounts of currywurst and fries in their faces. Tip #1 - always ask for mayo on your fries Tip #2 - always have your currywurst with skin on (if you like the snap)

Yelp
In Berlin I discovered I really just don't like Currywurst. It's basically a hotdog chopped up and covered in ketchup and a little curry powder. Gross. Of the two stands I got, this was significantly worse. The meat tasted cheap and flavorless. That's all you really need to know. Don't come here just because it's iconic. There are better currywurst joints around town.
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
I do think that this is the best Currywurst in Berlin... the skin was crispy and the sausage was yummy and crunchy. they also have a very nice seating area and it has been serving yummy currywurst for ages! I am a fan :)

Yelp
Currywurst is tradition. Invented 1949 in Berlin by Herta Heuwer, this sausage topped with a curry sauce made its way around the world. Good job, Herta. When Berlin got parted in 1961, both East and West had their own favorite Currywurst stand. West-Berlin had its Curry 36 in Kreuzberg. For the East, Konnopke's was the Currywurst to-go place. Most of its rustic charm is still alive. Located under the elevated subway tracks in the middle of Schönhauser Allee it can be windy and grim. The stand with its yellow-ish metal panel looks outdated. And the ladies working there rarely speak English. But just order "eine currywurst mit brot", pay 2.20 Euro, and enjoy. You'll also experience a piece of Berlin history.
google avatar

Yelp
Oh, how I miss this Imbiss! Is it wrong of me to fantasize about eating a Konnopke's Currywurst while I'm eating Currywurst elsewhere? I'd like to think not, because in my humble opinion, no other place in the world rivals the Currywurst at Konnopke's. Their plump and succulent Wursts are sliced up and covered in Konnopke's special spicy curry-ketchup. A side of hot, crispy Pommes Frites topped with the optional mayonnaise pairs well. Oh, and don't forget the beer! A Currywurst meal isn't complete without a cold, refreshing German beer. Now, Guten Appetit! I've eaten at Konnopke's before and after its renovation. The results of its make over are a brand spankin' new exterior and murals painted alongside the stand, as well as additional shaded dining areas --- no longer do you have to eat your food inside tents. Konnopke's should be a stop on every traveler's list if they plan on visiting Berlin, because a visit to Berlin without trying Currywurst is incomplete. Give this savory Berlin street eat a shot, and make sure you do it at Konnopke's.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
The ultimate Berlin locale for currywurst, which much as I try, I just can't enjoy. But lucky for me, Konnopke's also has some damn fine brats and fries. Situated right under the U-Bahn, this place has been an institution for well over 80 years. It may look like a snack bar, but the staff are well dressed and they take the business of sausages seriously. Like the best of Berlin, a full meal is dirt cheap. I'd be astounded if you could even top 5 EUR for a sausage, beer and side of fries. Oh, and for the love of Brussels, get mayo on your fries and skip the ketchup! (it's not Heinz anyway) :)
google avatar

Christopher H.

Yelp
The currywurst here is so incredible it's hard to describe! I've been to other places around Berlin, but only Konnopke's currywurst makes my eyes roll back into my head with sausage induced euphoria! I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Konnopke's currywurst is one of the most delicious things in existence. Other things that are good here: The fries are delicious, especially with mayonnaise. The grog is really good, get it from the weird guy in the far right window.

Yelp
Imagine this - you love food; you're in the wurst capital of the world, surrounded by currywurst, bratwurst, bockwurst; and... you can't eat any of it because you're not a carnivore. It's the WORST (the wurst?!?). Thank goodness I don't have a gluten allergy on top of my commitment to avoid meat; I would have starved in Germany. Anyway, for the vegetarian damsel in distress, it's Konnopke's to the rescue! As with so many wurst stands, this little gem is located within a stone's throw of a U-Bahn station, which makes your currywurst a convenient post- or pre-commute snack. The best thing (for me) is that in addition to regular currywurst, they offer vegan currywurst! You pay a slight premium for it, but since vegan wurst is not often ordered, they don't grill them in bulk, which means that if you DO order a vegan wurst, you get it freshly grilled and sliced up! There are 2 wursts per order, and you better bet you want fries, mayo, AND ketchup with that. The pommes are crispy and - I never thought I would say this - the mayo is surprisingly delicious. Most folks eat their wursts standing at high tables, but Konnopke's also has a sheltered patio area for those who wish to enjoy their wursts sitting down. There are communal tables with cushions. Also available at Konnopke's - radler, pilsners, and kinder-friendly beverages (ie juices & sodas). Konnopke's wurst: it's the best.

Yelp
I'm vegetarian but my boyfriend isn't. We tried this place once we learned it had the vegan option. The vegan wurst was really good. The texture and flavor was fantastic. My boyfriend even tried some and he thought it had more flavor that the original. If you're in the area and want to get a glimpse of this type of food I would recommend stopping by. Also, their fries were perfectly cooked and well seasoned.

Yelp
we went to try the Berlin originated dish, currywurst, on our first night in Berlin. This establishment, recommended by Anthony Bourdain, the host of no reservations, was my group's first choice. The establishment sort of looks like Harry's pie on wheels where you order at the counter, get food served on paper plates with plastic cutlery and grab a stool at one of the three long tables. For €3.80, you get a wurst with curry powder on top and some sauce that tastes like ketchup. I got mine at a level 4 (spicy levels are rated from 1-5, where levels 1-3 is like Tabasco and 4 is 8000x Spicier than 3 apparently)spicy and it tasted like ketchup with a slight kick to it. The sausage sauce combo came with a potato salad that just tasted like a standard potato salad with mayo. The sausage itself was average. I liked it but don't need to have it again anytime too soon. I had a curry wurst in Vienna, and that was just a sausage with mustard and curry powder in a hot dog bun. This had more flavour due yo the ketchup like sauce but nothing special.
google avatar

Kacie M.

Yelp
I was hoping to find the best currywurst I could get in Berlin. Unfortunately, the sausage here tasted like a hot dog with too much ketchup. No curry flavor and no crisp to the skin at all.
google avatar

Trang N.

Yelp
So I can't pretend how overly psyched I am when it comes to German's so called fast food. The "fast" is discretion-able, since there can be huge lines at some of the more popular Currywurst shops. This being one of my favorites tend to have long lines. So this currywurst. Let me tell ya, it's all about the sauce. Yah you take a frank fry it and slice it, but you don't just cover it in ketchup. You cover it in a curry ketchup sauce and sprinkle yellow curry powder over. Thus you have the currywurst. So my curious German friend asked my thoughts on "their" snack food. I said well besides from the sauce, the frank is pretty common. But overall I love it. But lets face it I grew up on the frank from when I was a 3 year old eating it cold straight from bag from the refrigerator, till I graduated to 5 or 6 and was allowed to nuke it in the microwave all the way till I was 12 or 13 where I cooked it in a frying pan or grill. Ahhhh he chuckles at me and wonders if all Americans are as strange as me.

Yelp
Konnopke's is the reason I love Berlin. Really? Okay, well, Konnopke's best represents what I love most about Berlin: Street Food. People don't understand the importance of Street Food. Sure, you can be walking anywhere while munching on a bag of chips or poppin' Skittles in your mouth. DOESN'T COUNT. Nope. I'm talkin' walkin' down the street, enjoying a piping hot sausage, pre-cut for you, little fork handy, smothered in a sweet and savory ketchup-like sauce, curry powder heavily sprinkled over the top. Every bite bursting with juice and flavor and happiness--seriously now. You WISH you had Currywurst from Konnopke's right now, dontcha? Yep, you wish you did. Konnopke's Imbiss has been doing Street Food justice...for 80 years. They've got your Currywurst, your knockwurst, your pommes with ketchup & mayo (which, by the way, is DIVINE). They've got your Fanta, your Coca Cola-Light, your beer for sippin' on the way home...yeah. OR if you just want to stand around and eat your food? They've got high tables with umbrellas for the less-than-30-seconds lunch too, where you stuff that sausage right in there...sorry, too graphic. ANYWAY--the point is--Konnopke's Imbiss does it better. The sausage is hot, the pommes are crispy and the mayo is other-worldly--and they've got Street Food down to a science. And even if you don't want it on the street, they'll wrap it up for you to take home. How 'bout that? Mmmhmm.
google avatar

Annette A.

Yelp
Anthony Bourdain, you're a jerk. If you like the taste of microwaved hot dogs and tart ketchup with whatever old powders you find in your spice cabinet, this place is for you. Sorry that sounds nasty but this place is overrated. We watched that show and sought "the best of the best", traveling many miles to get to this little shop under the bridge. End result was disappointment. I was expecting flavorful sausage and tasty curry sauce but yep - nope! Go here if you want to say you tried it, but I found it cold and depressing.
google avatar

Nik D.

Yelp
I hate to leave a negative review but usually yelp doesn't lead me wrong. They definitely led us astray this time. My friends and I all got the currywurst cause we figured that was the special. To be honest, there wasn't that much special to it. The fries were decent which earns it the two stars cause the sausage wasn't cuttin it. Kinda random you have to pay extra for any ketchup or mayo. The Sonoran dogs I've had in Tucson, AZ have been better. But maybe that's because everything with bacon tastes better. But who knows, there's a crowd there so different strokes for different folks.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
Until I taste something better, this is the best currywurst in Berlin. They have fast service, cheap prices, great food, and serve gluehwein. It's the Halal Guys of currywurst.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
We asked a guy at our hostel for the best currywurst in the city, and he sent us here without a blink. It was luckily pretty close to where we were staying, but I'd probably recommend it to anyone looking for currywurst, no matter how far away you are. My first impression was: wowza! So many people! I assumed they'd mostly be tourists, but I was pleasantly surprised to only hear German spoken around me. The line was fairly long but went quickly. We went for the currywurst with french fries (and, of course, mayo and ketchup as those Europeans do). We weren't sure exactly how it was supposed to be prepared and presented, but what we received really hit the spot. I would have liked a bit more curry sauce though. The price was right. There were tall tables for standing and a covered area with about four or five picnic tables. Well done, Konnopke's Imbiss!
google avatar

Billy D.

Yelp
We stopped here on stop 5/7 of our one-day currywurst crawl. I'm still feeling damaged from that day. One of the classic currywurst places in Berlin. Worth a visit not just because it's under a highway, but because it's an institution. It's not the spiciest or most flavorful but you will remember this one.
google avatar

Tim A.

Yelp
This place was awesome. This is a classic food stall that has been around a long time. The currywurst is insanely good. Loved it and for the price how can you argue. I cant find anything close to this in the states. Ive ordered it many times from many different places and nothing comes close to this. This is a must try if you are in Berlin.
google avatar

Geoff M.

Yelp
I had my first curry wurst experience here and it was pretty good. I'm not quite sure what the hype is though. It's a sausage with ketchup and curry powder, which it seems anyone could make. That said, Konnopke's also has a tasty chicken-and-pork fat skewer type of thing that was even better! I also had a chilikrakauer sausage that was like a hot link and that was good, too.
google avatar

Max L.

Yelp
Apparently "the place" to have Currywurst in Berlin because it`s the oldest currywurst place in Berlin. I feel like the only old thing here was the currywurst but maybe that was just me. While the food was fine and done in 2 minutes their isn`t anything special about it (I mean it`s only sausage and fries with ketchup-curry but I digress). I prefer a hole in the wall called "Curry36" but I might be imagining the difference of quality. Anyway if you only have 3$ and 5min to eat (make some life changes) and eat at this place.
google avatar

Kuchenlover B.

Yelp
Berlin is THE city for 'currywurst'. There are numerous places in the capital where you can enjoy an authentic curry sausage. This stand here in Prenzlauer Berg is considered to be one of the finest, but in all honesty: it isn't. The place is simply overrated! The sausages are served without skin, which is quite typical for a Berliner Wurst. However, it gives them a weird consistency and takes away a certain 'crunch' which isn't to everybody's liking. The sauce tastes quite nice although they could cover the poor bangers a little more. All in all an 'alright' stand, but there are better curry sausages to be found in Berlin - yet not necessarily in this district. Check out the stands in Steglitz and Kreuzberg instead!
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
It's fun to eat at this historic currywurst stand, which is fairly touristy but also has lots of local charm. The currywurst is good, though far from the best I've had, but it made for a good quick lunch on a busy day. Bonuses: there are vegan/vegetarian currywurst options and the stand has a covered seating area in case of rain.
google avatar

Levi S.

Yelp
One of the most famous curry wurst places in Berlin. It's simple, you order a Currywurst with Pommes (fries), choose how spicy you want it and get a traditional Berliner meal for just a few bucks. Simply delicious!
google avatar

Qype User (Jasper…)

Yelp
Qype says if i will write one more "Beitrag" in foreign language i will get a "Sprachtalent"-medal. Yes i am medal-geil! Here it is: to the international east german lady anarchist konnopke. International because of her marvellous apostrophe (probably the east german way to show resistance against the regime and the "Sehnsucht" for the west). Still resisting, now against the senate. Konnopke's is not moving for whatever they will offer her. The currywurst will stay the same at the same place - whatever change there will be. Fight the power! Currywurst and pommes. Konnopke's forever. (You can eat the currywurst at any other place as well, but also here).
google avatar

Taste Bud G.

Yelp
Whenever TBG is visiting friends in Berlin, TBG stops at Konnopkes! Its a must visit. - great curry wurst - nice seating - good also in winter time - close to subway station - nice part of town TBG Recommends the experience and taste!
google avatar

Christian P.

Yelp
This is a must see and have cult status. It is almost impossible not to experience a line or que when getting your "Wurst" from here. They are extremely efficient, since they have been doing this for decades, but they still attract a massive crowd. It is simply probably the best curry in town.
google avatar

Wilco V.

Yelp
We had no idea this is a famous spot, but it appeared to be! Great place for a beer and wurst if you might walk by!

Shirley G.

Yelp
First time visiting Berlin and my friend bought me to this place for Currywurst. It was a big crowd and hard to find a place to sit. But there is standing small tables available where you can just stand and have a quick bite. Currywurst was fantastic especially the sauce.. fans of curry would be more appreciative for such food. A good recommendation.
google avatar

Darwin G.

Yelp
The wurst isn't like any sausage I've had before, nice quality. The fries were fresh and hot. The curry powder had a spicy kick to it that gave a dimension to the plate. It's 4 ingredients (curry, fries, wurst, and ketchup), they don't mess up any. It's simple, cheap, tasty, and you must have a Berliner with it.
google avatar

Benjamin C.

Yelp
As far as quick street meat goes, this is the best I've ever had. I had the large meal with mayo on the fries. The sausages were fried to a point where the skin was nice and crispy, the ketchup/curry powder/mayonnaise all tasted super fresh, and the fries had a very nice spice to them and were fried in quality oil. There was no fault I could find with the food at all, it was the best food I'd had in Berlin during my stay.
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
They say this is one of the two good places to have a curry wurst in berlin, i.e. an institution. Sadly, I didn't think it holds a candle to curry 36 in kreuzberg. It could have been the moment and hunger level but i wasn't impressed with the specialty. I thought The fries were good, though. May try again since it's not a big loss, but I'd go back to curry 36 any day.
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
The best we had during our visit to Berlin. The Wurst was amazing, the crispy casing really set it apart. The frites were also fantastic. Staff was friendly enough with us English speakers.
google avatar

Jana T.

Yelp
It is truly a classic. Everry visit home has to include a trip to Konnopke's. As a child, i stopped by there regularly since it was on my way to some after school sport I did. Never eat a Currywurst cut, take it with a bun. If you insist on the cut version, mop up the sauce with your Broetchen.
google avatar

Vin D.

Yelp
Awesome, a fine example of currywurst in Berlin (the tomato sauce isn't too salty like it is at other places). The service was incredibly efficient as well. My only complaint is that Konnopke's closes too early at 8pm; no way to satiate those late night cravings!
google avatar

Yelp
I was here because it was on Anthony Bourdaine's No Reservations. Cool place to visit if you're a tourist.

After never tasting currywurst in my life it was a toss up as to which place I wanted to try first, Konnopke's Imbiss or Curry 36. I decided on Konnopke's after seeing it on No Reservations. Forget about the staff knowing any English or being helpful in any way. There was about a 15 minute wait when I arrived in the afternoon. After never tasting currywurst I have to say I didn't enjoy the taste of the currywurst at all. Maybe its because I don't enjoy many of my foods doused in ketchup however if you do perhaps you'd enjoy it more than myself. The fries were good and tasty however If I don't ever taste another currywurst I'm just fine with it. This place may be the best at what they do however I just didn't enjoy it.

Yelp
Giant disappointment. Konnopke´s is presented everywhere as the best currywurst place for currywurst in Berlin which caused my big expectations. The wurst was too foamy and spongy, it tasted really cheap. The sauce was thick and sweet - I missed the spices! I know at least 3 places where you can get MUCH better currywurst like this one. I really don´t understand how they managed to become so famous.

Yelp
Konnopkes Imbiss Legendary sausage with curry ketchup. Where during the Cold War, diplomats, spy's and con-men would gather and be observed by the Secret Police. Come here and order the Currywurst with a bottle of ice cold beer to experience a true historical significance of a Germany long gone but not forgotten.

Yelp
I have had a fair amount of Currywurst and this is by far the best. I tried a few places in Berlin but I still think about this one.

Yelp
Konnopke is one of the truly long established and original institutions. Here you may get the original curry sausage, the traditional Berlin fast food on the street. Many people claiming Konnopke for having the best curry sausages in town. If you are in the area, make your own try. It's still cheap, hot and tasty.

Yelp
The Starbucks of Curry Wurst. It's sweet and doesn't really taste like anything. The sausage was so watery and soft, you could almost drink it. It's neither good nor bad. It's just some sweet uncharacteristic bio mass.
