Kookaburra Hotel

Just had a meal at the Kookaburra Hotel in Halls Gap and it was perfect. I had the full Porterhouse steak with Green Peppercorn gravy and my wife had the Kangaroo in their super secret sauce. We asked for rare and it was served...rare!!! Unbelievable! Most places can't get this right, these guys know how to cook! The meals were perfect, the service was perfect and the drinks and atmosphere were just amazing. Not to mention everything was well priced. Loved it so much, would be back here again night after night if we weren't only here on holiday. Perfect! UPDATE: We forced ourselves to have dessert. Shared a vanilla bean pannacotta and a tiramisu. As before, perfection! Don't miss this place!

Best meals we had while in Halls Gap! Totally chipped out by dinners at other places, the Kookaburra offered a full range of meals that suited everyone - kids, vegos, pub classics and proper meals. Best kangaroo I've had in over 20 years! Good service, good drinks list and a pool table - what more would you want? Definitely ring ahead to book a table though, otherwise you could be disappointed.

My partner and I rolled up on the Kookaburra after reading the reviews. First thing that struck us was the atmosphere along with the ambiance. We didn’t book (I would suggest doing this) but the guy at the door had that unique friendly country vibe and placed us on the “waiting list” then asked if us if we minded sitting at the bar (no need to be asked twice) until a table became free. Again, we were met with a smile along with that old fashioned hospitality. After a short wait we told a table was free. Our meals were hardy and presented with smile as were our drinks. We went back to the bar and started a chat with the staff at nights end, where we found their enthusiasm for the business contagious. If you only ever come here once, do yourself and friends a favour… we highly recommend that you experience a night in this friendly establishment.

We stopped here on our visit to Halls Gap and had a great afternoon! The staff were kind and helpful, the food was quick and there was some delicious beer on tap. The kids enjoyed the complimentary games, kept them quiet so the big kids could enjoy a game of pool. Will definitely be back.

Friendly place and good service. Menu was excellent with so much more than the standard pub fare. Good vegetarian options and excellent local wines.

These guys…totally awesome Service…….totally awesome Food……..totally awesome Atmosphere……..totally awesome Returning………totally Coolest Pub in town we travelled from Hastings and to come here and have a meal was well worth it. They made us feel so welcome and between the live music and and great staff the atmosphere was great. Awesome job guys and gals will definitely be back. Jay and Peta (The Dog On the mini 🤣)

Food was amazing. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Partner's dad said the roast potatoes were one of the best he has ever had. I love my barramundi and prawns, the garlic butter sauce was heavenly. The barramundi was soft and tender, not dry. Perfectly seasoned also. Good portion size. Good variety of drinks.
