The food here definitely hits a nostalgic note. It was homey, comforting, and full of flavour. It reminded me of meals from the past, which was lovely. Service was okay and efficient enough. Unfortunately, I did notice a baby cockroach crawling on the wall and our table, which was disappointing and affected the overall experience. Hoping the management addresses cleanliness, because the food really is worth coming back for if the hygiene improves.

It has been more than 20 years since I have been to Kopitiam. The decor and seating are as i remember it. We were welcomed by a very friendly and welcoming gent who seated us very promptly as walk-ins to the place. With table water ready and a clean table, we settled on the chicken rice (available only on weekends) and hokkien mee. The food didnt take long to arrive. The rice was very fragrant and the chicken was tender. Loved the fact that it was the thigh cut. The chilli sauce, albeit a bit on the sweeter side, was the right level of spice. As for the hokkien noodles, it was almost like what one can get from a decent KL hokkien noodle eatery. It was well cooked, not too salty and not sweet. It is definitely one i would rate as the better choice for sydney. Many other places can get the balance off with this noodles dish. On the nice to have list for both dishes would be: 1. Having more ginger on the side + a soup to accompany the chicken rice 2. Having pork lard cooked in the noodles for the extra oomph. A place that i will be going back more often after such a long hiatus. And yes, payment is either via cash or payid.

Very flavourful chicken rice available on weekends only and flaky roti for great value available. Would recommend if you are looking for good Malaysian food on the weekends in the city.

Char kway teow and roti are outstanding, the taste of wok hei immaculate. The Hainan chicken and rice was a disappointingly small dish covered with a sweet soy sauce. Yes tender but the sauce overpowered the delicate flavor

The food was delicious and fresh. It was the traditional Malaysian homemade dishes.

I was thoroughly impressed. The Curry Laksa was absolutely delicious—rich, flavorful, and satisfying. I highly recommend trying it with both types of noodles, as it adds a delightful variety to the dish. The Chicken and Seafood options were both excellent, with fresh, tender ingredients that enhanced the overall experience. No Raygun here What makes Kopitiam Cafe stand out is its authenticity. The food here truly reflects the flavors of traditional cuisine, and it's clear that the family-run business takes great pride in what they serve. The service was excellent, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that made the meal even more enjoyable.

Came here for dinner the other night. This is a no frills Malaysian restaurant. The restaurant is small and run by a family. Overall, our experience was very positive and everyone in the party enjoyed the food. We ordered chicken hainan rice which came with a soy sauce chicken that was very juicy. The chicken oil rice was very flavorful with balanced use of ginger and onion. We also ordered the chicken curry with steamed rice which everyone enjoyed. The Laksa was also tasty and balanced in flavor. There was a bit more oil than I would have liked in the laksa and it could have been a smidge spicier. Overall, I would come back here again for a quick meal! Glad this place exists within this neighborhood!

Always come back here when I crave good nasi lemak. The chicken rice was also great. The place is small, but that’s also the charm. They accept cash or payid. The uncle was always quick to take our orders :)

Yelp
Great food? Check! Awesome chicken-rice? Check! Ambiance? Did I mention the great food? This is the classic hole in the wall with awesome food and the owner hanging out with his buddy chatting in cantonese about their kids in the old country. In the meantime enjoy the killer flavors that bring you back to... well I've never been to the old country. But the chicken rice is at least as good as San Gabriel. I guess that's the old country to me.

Yelp
Now this is pretty authentic KL style Malaysian Hawker food. The store is simple and small. With just 9 tops of which two are for 8 seats - it's pretty cramped in here! But cozy! Don't be shy as you may end up sharing a table with others. When we arrived we were at the start of a rush as the line developed behind us with an already full restaurant. Luckily we managed a spot sharing with a family of 5. We ordered their Char Kuay Teow and Ais Batu Kacang. And the family ordered Hainan Chicken Rice and Fish Head Curry. Smells really good. There was an interesting mix of customers from Thai, to Malaysian, to Indonesian. Mixed in with the a couple of locals. It took a while for our food to be served. So it left me thinking that he forgot our order... Finally it came! The Char Kuay Teow was pretty good - KL style. Slightly spicy but oddly with chicken, no Chinese sausage or clams. Regardless, it was tasty. It took a while for the drinks to come out as well. As the kitchen is pretty small. So be patient!

Yelp
A great family run restaurant that has been serving Sydney for years. Authentic Hawker style meals. My favourite is the Curry Chicken and Singapore Noodles.

Yelp
GET THEIR HAINAN CHICKEN!! It's soooo good and tasty!!! They only make it on weekends and in limited quantities. so get'er fast! very hole in the wall location and has a very casual, street style vibe. nothing pretentious - just good eats at a great price in a no frills location. :) no lines too -- you can skip the infamous ho jip!

Yelp
My favourite place for Nasi Lemak. Truly authentic Malaysian food. Coconut rice is very fragrant, more than another places I have tried. The only place I want to have Nasi Lemak. The curry in Nasi Lemak is not spicy which is good for me. Crunchy anchovy and peanuts. Will come back to try laksa and char kway teow. Cash only

Yelp
Ultimo should be very proud of this place. Kopitiam serves Malaysian 'Hawker Style' cuisine, and has a bit of a reputation in Sydney as the place-to-go for Nasi Lemak and Hainan Chicken Rice. Put simply, the food at Kopitiam is: richly flavoured, peanuty, oily, salty and satisfying. And someone said something about the chicken being tender. Yeah, the chicken is tender. It is imperative to arrive hungry. Kopitiam has saved us many a time, post Ultimo kickboxing, when we were so energy depleted, we could barely walk. So - you stumble in, you're hungry... what to order? It is pretty much required to order the House Special, Nasi Lemak. Nasi Lemak involves a boiled egg, peanuts, dried anchovies, chicken, potato, sambal and rice. Serious comfort food. Kopitiam's Roti is also delicious (mind you, the sauce tastes very similar to the Nasi Lemak sauce, but YUM - who cares?). It was a hot day, so we wanted something icy and delicious. We asked the waiter and she suggested another house special, the Malacca chendol, which has coconut milk, shaved ice, sweet stuff and green jelly stuff. It was very very rich, but quite delightful. There are many other comforting dishes at Kopitiam, these are just a few to get your taste-buds revving. Prices are very reasonable, and the decor (brightly coloured walls, plastic & metal tables), is laid back and informal, without feeling particularly manky. On this occasion we arrived there on a Saturday at lunchtime - it was packed, but they managed to find a spot for us.

Yelp
Really good. Got the second to last serving of the chicken rice and it was very good. The atmosphere is laid back and the owner is very congenital. They only take cash so be ready. However the prices a quite reasonable.

Yelp
Hainan chicken is awesome forever hahaha!! I tried it N timesssss already

Yelp
I really like Kopitiam. The owners are friendly, the food is nice and service is always quick. However I have to admit that I've been limiting my visits simply because they are a cash only establishment. As someone who never carries cash, it's a bit of an annoyance searching for an ATM just to eat here. In terms of food I would definitely recommend their Har Mee (prawn noodles) as well as the seafood laksa. Both better than most in Sydney.

Pat K.

Yelp
Great food ... Loved the place. Great service and Harris is great host

Edwin K.

Yelp
Went to the powerhouse museum one evening and had dinner here after. The name says it, it's a Kopitiam, a coffee shop and hence the atmosphere of the place is a bit of a food court feeling. The prices are good too and also the service is quick. The Nasi Lemak was quite yummy but the Char Kway Teow isn't that great. I'll definitely visit this place because the quality of the food is great for it's price point. Thought I'll recommend staying away from the Char kway teow.

Yelp
YES! I go here with my paddling mates (dragonboat) every Tuesday. It's brilliant. Ok, in reality it might not be the best food you get, but the staff are friendly, accomodating, and REMEMBER OUR NAMES AND ORDERS! In my book, that ranks really highly. Things to order for sure: Chicken Laksa and their Malaysian Coffee. The sauce for the Chicken Laksa is delicious....if they put that same sauce/soup with their beef or veggie options, it would be brilliant. As it is, those other two are not nearly as tasty. But for less than $20 for a super filling dinner and good atmosphere, I'll always head there!

Joyce L.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I am Malay hawker food deprived at where I live, and dropping by here on my visits home definitely satisfy the cravings. Found this place through my brother's dragon boat team - they would come here for dinner most Thu nights, after practice. They would show up in a group of 10 (or more) and the lady would be so nice to let us rearrange tables and elevate the room's noise level by 3x. Firstly, they're Hawker style quick. An important restaurant selection criteria when trying to feed 10+ hungry, sweaty people. What I love is that their curry laksa is well proportioned - enough broth without drowning, chicken thigh pieces vs. shredded... noodle, hard boiled egg, etc All good. I personally like a bit more bean sprouts and maybe will ask for that next time. Kopitiam is super accommodating in orders: if you want your dish customized, like omit an ingredient, they'll do it. They do Hainan Chicken Rice on weekends and I'm craving to go back and try it. Great value hole in the wall!

Yelp
Their Laksas are amazing! One of the better ones I've had in Sydney. Don't like any of their stir fries or gravy dishes though, very bland and their chicken tastes like rubber.

Charles K.

Yelp
Faded Malaysian tourism posters. Kitschy decor. And an owner who is boisterous and engaging. While they have many westernized dishes on their menu (which aren't spectacular in any way), their chicken curry laksa is to die for. It is crammed with my favourite ingredients: thigh fillets, potatoes and a boiled egg. The coconut-based soup was spot on.

Rohan J.

Yelp
Without doubt the best Chicken rice I've had, but they only serve it on weekend . Took out 5 adults and 2 kids and it only cost me $105. Great food and great value!

Amy L.

Yelp
ATTENTION: try their Soy Tofu with pork mince very delicious and yummy. It's light and smooth and very healthy with rice. Great value for money highly recommended.

Kelly M.

Yelp
I was a bit disappointed with this place. The good was that service was very quick, the nasi lemak was tasty and the decor was kitsch and therefore pretty cool. The bad is that the char kway teow was pretty ordinary (it lacked flavour) and the seating, along with the plastic water jugs and plastic cups doesn't make for an inviting dining atmosphere. But for a quick meal and at $20 to feed two people it's ok. Based on the other reviews which rated the food highly I would be willing to give this place another go and try the laksa or Hainanese chicken rice next time.

Johahn L.

Yelp
What can I say? This place is an institution for hawker food. Laksa, lamb curry, laksi lamak.. And who can forget the famous fish head curry? Oh and there's excellent Hainese Chicken rice on the weekends. It's simple, great food for $20. U really cannot ask for more.

Jason P.

Yelp
This place is still awesome after being a customer for almost 18 years. No fancy décor but the food is always great and tasty.
