Korkeasaari Zoo

While zoos’ lamenting reality is the animals not living in their natural habitat, they allow one to safely observe the fauna’s exotic features. Even though some enclosures stated: “The enclosure is temporarily empty,” there was a ton of fauna to view. I viewed: tigers, a leopard, a goat perched in a faraway distance, bisons, a peacock, racoons and camels. Also, an emu, which was surprising as I believed them to reside only in the land down under.

A small zoo on a small island. We visited on winter so not all animal were visible but the experience was good enough to be amazed.

Small zoo but still took 3 hours to go round as watching the animals and exploring all the nature zones and trails around. Great facilities and large enclosures. We enjoyed our time and saw some animals we haven’t before which was really cool. Being by the water was refreshing and amazing backdrop for the zoo.

The zoo is on an island (i think the entire island is the zoo). I got there by JT-line boat, which is free with Helsinki City Pass (recommended, many activities with 55euro/48h). Anw, the zoo is ok, animals are not really active on a sunny saturday morning of August. But they look well taken care of and have a lot of space. Prepare yourself with drinks and at least 1,5h of walking :)

We visited this zoo on Sunday. There were almost no people, which was very nice. However, many areas are under construction. The zoo feels quite old and, at the moment, not really worth visiting. Almost all restaurants and bars were closed. The most interesting parts were the wild cats and owls. It was quite an interesting walk to the zoo across the bridge. I suppose after the reconstruction it will be a pleasant place for both visitors and animals. But for now, it’s not a top place to visit.

Very beautiful place to visit. They don't have a huge amount of animals but, the ones they have, are very well taken care of and have a lot of space to be, exercise, run, etc. I would advice a morning visit because some of the animals will not be available after 16h (if I'm not mistaken), like some monkeys. And, when it gets too warm they will seek for a cooler and shady area, sometimes inside, which will prevent you from seeing them. There's some coffee shops and a place inside where you can also eat meals brought by you. Amazing selection of frogs.

I was here at free day with my young child. She is 1,6 y.o. we both engaged so much to see all of this animals. Just I'm sad littel bit, cuz we get there late and didn't see feeding of animals. Otherwise I'm highly recommended to visit this place..

I visited this zoo quite early (11am-2pm) there was not lot of people so no line, saw most of the animals except big cats. I assume they would be more active during afternoon hours, food and drinks were good and gift shop had lot of things to pick from. Ticket prices were affordable and all the events (feedings) were clearly stated in signs, I loved that. I recommend visiting with the whole family or group
