Very cool venue in a cellar, with high ceilings and traditional decor. Quite the space! The food was great, enjoyed it a lot. Service was very slow and there was definitely not enough staff. We would have ordered more if we could have - and that on a Monday. It must get very busy on weekend nights. But overall, good food!

We visited Kornhauskeller in Bern for drinks and had a wonderful experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is stunning, with its grand architecture and unique atmosphere that really sets it apart! One of the highlights for us was that the place is pet-friendly, which made it very accommodating and welcoming. The staff was polite and nice and the service was efficient. We were very satisfied with the overall quality and would definitely visit again!

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, especially in winter with the Christmas tree. Service was great and attentive, but gave you enough time between courses. Atmosphere was very nice and relaxed. I had the Beef fillet cubes with tagliatelle from the Winter Menu and my friend had the Tortellini filled with walnut truffle cream. Both were delicious. Would definitely recommend if visiting Bern. We booked a table beforehand, the restaurant was pretty busy even on a Monday.

Service and the atmosphere of this restaurant are really great! So if you want to go inside for a drink go for it, but the food here is not great. It feels like they are selling great meals but in fact it’s nothing special. The prices are also quite expensive for the quantity/quality you will get. I would not recommend going here for the restaurant but for the bar I would.

Ate dinner here with a tour group when visiting Bern. The atmosphere was amazing being set in a middle-ages era wine cellar. The goulash is a must have along with the cheese cake. An overall great experience.

Yelp
Host was extremely rude. We did not make a reservation since there were many available slots on their website. After we walked in and requested a table for five, the host looked us up and down, then with a smack of his lips told us "about a fifty minute wait". Clearly not true as over 75% of the restaurant was empty. Immediately, I went outside and successfully made a reservation for 3 minutes later. Of course, I did not actually dine there after receiving that sort of welcome. Try not to judge your customers by looks or clothing. You just missed out on a large cheque. To those who like matches or need a light: I will give one star for having a big jar of matchbooks. Just go down and grab some! Pretty nice and compact.

Yelp
A Journey Back in Time with High-Quality Swiss Cuisine Our visit to Kornhauskeller in Bern was a memorable experience that began the moment we walked in. Descending into this historic, vaulted space felt like stepping into a different era, setting the stage for a unique dining adventure. The restaurant specializes in dishes made with local ingredients, drawing inspiration from traditional Swiss cuisine but with creative twists that made each dish we tried quite distinctive. The menu offers something for everyone, from hearty meat dishes to flavorful soups and exquisite vegan options. However, be prepared for a higher price point, with each dish costing around 30-40 francs. Despite the excellent food and atmospheric setting, our experience was somewhat marred by the service. The servers made us feel unwelcome, seemingly eager to rush us out while simultaneously ignoring us at times. This led to a longer visit than we anticipated and detracted from the overall enjoyment. Nonetheless, Kornhauskeller remains a worthwhile dining destination, especially for those seeking a blend of historical ambiance and high-quality food. My Criteria: 5 stars: The best food I have ever had, or an excellent option given the price. 4 stars: Good food, a restaurant I look forward to trying again. 3 stars: Good food, a restaurant that I am indifferent to. 2 stars: Below average experience, will not go again. 1 star: This restaurant should be closed.

Yelp
the food was delicious and the ambiance of the restaurant was so cool! it was underground with a high ceiling and gorgeous decor. Service was great! Staff were a little overwhelmed but overall our waiter was very funny and patient.

Yelp
Beautiful!. This below street level, cavernous space is gorgeous, authentic looking, arched ceiling, painted surfaces. I reserved on their site & felt lucky to score the last rez available at 5:45. I was a bundle of anxiety getting to the restaurant after losing a lot of time navigating the ridiculously confusing & huge parking lot almost a mile away. Don't drive. Forget trying to call the restaurant. Anyway, arriving late we were surprised there were only 3 other tables filled. In came the tour groups and tables full of wine. Luckily, we had already put in our order. My salmon was delicious, and as with most places, the staff spoke serviceable English for the language challenged Americans. We weren't rushed as we made our way through the buffet appetizers (best plan to try more food), then entrees, drinks, & dessert. I had a tasty scoop of mango sorbet. It was a pleasant walk to our car, and along the way we stopped at COOP for our traditional croissant breakfast for the next morning.

Yelp
My family and I went to this restaurant on our first night in Bern. In my opinion, while the food was good, it wasn't amazing. The dining experience is more about the ambiance of the restaurant.

Yelp
Somewhat a tourist trap, they did actually did a good job creating a nice traditional Swiss meal. Nice Ambiente, stressed staff. But overall a good place to go for lunch.

Yelp
Everything about this was terrible. I came to my table and no one came to me for 35 minutes. I brought it to the attention of the host and still, no one came to me. The host interrupted me 3 times when I finally decide to leave and ask for the manager. The manager convinces me to stay and says he will wait on me. Then he sends the same host that interrupted me. The host walks over and asked me "what do you want." That is what passes for customer service in Switzerland i guess?! I tell him he is being disrespectful and the manager then returns. I order water, wine, and veal. The wine appears and it is terrible. The water never comes until after the food when I remind the manager I ordered water. The veal was mediocre at best. A bit embarrassing for a fine dining restaurant. I had veal in Zermatt and it was amazing. Would not order again. I always think a good litmus test for a restaurant is there butter and bread. The butter was still cold and would not spread on the bread. It was only at the end of the meal that the butter warmed and could be cut into. All in all, terrible service, terrible wine, mediocre food, and a big waste of time. One star. No respect whatsoever.

Yelp
Cool restaurant with traditional Swiss food in a massive underground setting - very unique ambiance, and has a bar upstairs.

Devon M.

Yelp
Food was excellent, a bit pricier but worth it for the location. The interior is absolutely amazing. Service was less than attentive, but friendly.

Beatrice T.

Yelp
We never made it to the restaurant downstairs, but did go several times to the bar. You cannot beat the atmosphere. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it.

Yelp
The room is outstanding. You should eat here for that reason alone. The service was excellent, pleasant, professional. The wine list was ok, not great, and quite expensive even by Bern standards. The food was also good but not spectacular. So, have a bit more of the wine than usual and just enjoy the room you are in.

Yelp
This is a superb venue! Excellent service - attentive but not fussy; great food and good selection, good wine list and the most stunning decor. If I lived in Bern I would be there every week. Awesome place.

Yelp
What a beautiful space. We had lunch there yesterday and it was wonderful. We participated in the Business Mans lunch. My mom had the antipasti from the buffet. It was fresh and very Italian in style. Grilled peppers, eggplant, prosciutto, etc. The rest of us ordered pumpkin soup with cilantro. Surprising in a good way. The entree was Hirsch saltimboca. ( venison medallions) The sides were red cabbage and a chestnut risotto. We cleaned our plates. I highly recommend this place for lunch when your in Bern.

Yelp
This is the place for a good old fashioned splurge in the beautiful city of Bern. We came in at 6:30pm on Saturday night without reservations and were seated with the caveat that they needed the table at 8:30pm. Two entrees, two mains and one bottle of wine later, we realized it was past 9pm and they had let us enjoy our long leisurely dinner, table was ours to continue to enjoy. I had an octopus carpaccio to start which was delightful while the hubby had a nice selection of antipasti from the buffet. For mains we had Veal Milanese with a side of yummy risotto and super tender veal scallops with addictive spätzle. All this we washed down with a nice Barbaresco. For dessert we had a decadent chocolate cake with coffee and port. It all cost a small fortune but considering that eating out in Switzerland, I thought it was great value for money. After dinner we swung by the bar upstairs, which seemed nicely packed with good looking people. We enjoyed an Old Fashioned and a Corpse Reviver made by an appropriately serious mixologist, an experience I've quite missed since moving to Geneva from New York. I would highly recommend coming to Kornhauskellar if in Bern. The location itself is worth seeing and the food and drinks are worth the splurge.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant. The decor is stunning. We had 2 servers that gave us great care. The food was delicious also. We had the filet of beef and king prawns with risotto and both were fabulous. Our hotel recommended this restaurant and set up a reservation. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
I went here today for drinks and it is absolutely great! The atmosphere is wonderful, and the the look of the restaurant is wonderful..very old and kind of "theatrical". The wine selection is great too..and worth checking out. Would definitely recommend it to anyone coming to Bern.

Yelp
Food exists, but not the most interesting here: Kornhauskeller is the greatest old restaurant of Bern: just go in for a coffee to take a view. Or eat, but its not cheap.

John Z.

Yelp
Superb place. Marvelous traditional food. Amazing regional wine list. Terrific, open, busy and authentic atmosphere. The Spargel was out of this world. Service was good but very busy so a little slow. Also very good for large groups.
