I am a physician and was delighted by Dr Koster's manner, expertise and refreshing honesty. He explained why I was having so much trouble after a procedure done by a different practice, and he is now taking care of me.
Before saying anything else - a word about elective multifocal lens implantation - DON'T fall prey to these without asking every possible question you can think of, including how you would feel if they had to be taken out. A different practice implanted a multifocal IOL Symphony lens, and I had nothing but trouble from beginning to end. Don't listen to anyone about how most people do fine with these lenses, someone is always in the 10-20% of problem cases. Halos, laser for capsular opacification, dry eye interactions, up to $10K / eye, and then at least one person - ME, cannot see anywhere near clearly, near or far. I'm sure many of these lenses are being implanted and many are being EXPLANTED. These lenses are NOT ready for prime time. I have spoken to half a dozen eye docs and they all say the same thing - the problems are being underreported. SO, if you have dry eyes, or are a highly sensitive person, or are very used to your glasses, or are just very fussy about your eyes or elective surgery, these implants are NOT for you. Many, if not most people will need further Tx or frequent follow up after the implantation, and the constant drops, expense, and ongoing worries are just not worth it for many people.
Dr Koster was wonderful and spent hours explaining all my options. If you're having problems w/ an IOL and your doc doesn't seem to know what the issue is, get another opinion, see a diligent optometrist and then see what Dr. Koster says.
