We stopped by Kowloon in Indio on Christmas Eve for Chinese takeout based on Google recommendations, and it absolutely did not disappoint.
This is a small, family-owned restaurant, clearly focused on takeout. We ordered a generous spread: handmade egg rolls, sweet and sour pork, spicy beef lo mein, Kung Pao chicken, white rice, fried rice, and cheese rangoon.
Overall, the portions were huge—easily about 50% more food than we typically get from our local Chinese restaurant for roughly the same price. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared, and the value was excellent.
The standout dish was the Kung Pao chicken. It had the perfect level of heat, and the ingredients were noticeably fresh and flavorful. The lo mein was hearty and satisfying, the sweet and sour pork was classic and well done, and the egg rolls were clearly handmade, which made a big difference.
The atmosphere when we picked up our order was very minimal, but the staff was warm and genuinely appreciative of the business, which added to the experience.
For $60, we received three large entrées and an appetizer—enough food for multiple meals. If you’re looking for solid Chinese takeout, great value, and generous portions in the Indio area, Kowloon is absolutely worth a stop.
