These are the Best Hidden Gems in Japan, according to A-List Travel Advisor Mark Lakin

"Located in Uji, the historic birthplace of matcha, this tea garden dates back over 600 years and is noted as the last surviving member of the Muromachi-era Uji Shichimeien (Seven Tea Farms of Uji), offering authentic, centuries-old matcha tasting experiences tied to traditional tea farming." - Mark Lakin Mark Lakin Mark Lakin is a renowned hospitality brand strategist, luxury travel expert, keynote speaker, fine art photographer, seasoned corporate lawyer, and more. We went on a private tour of the farm and it was amazing! A sweet couple explained the tea cultivation process. Beyond the fact that the farm is stunning and the view is breathtaking, they conduct a traditional tea ceremony, you get to taste several types of tea, and in the end, you also make some yourself. It was educational and enriching—highly recommended! The price is a bit high, but it’s worth it—they close the farm to visitors especially for the tour!

Yoshi & Yuka made us feel at home at their beautiful family-owned organic tea farm. We reserved a private tour online and it 100% one of our favorite memories of our honeymoon trip so far. They are very knowledgeable about the tea farming process and explained everything in detail. We learned so much! And we tasted even more! They are real experts who are kind, fun, and amazing people. Please visit them and have a great time like we did! -Raquel & Enrique

It's a family owned organic tea farm. The owners have been super sweet with us: they gave us a private tour of the farm and explained us the process of making different types of tea. They've also answered the many questions we had during the tour. We then went through a tea tasting and brewing. The place is reachable by car / taxi only, but it's definitely worth the ride. The owners were also kind enough to arrange a cab for us back to Kyoto once we were done. Must do when in Kyoto!

The perfect morning. Spent learning about green tea production, the Koyama farm and the incredible passion and dedication that goes into it. We loved everything about the visit, the teas we sampled and the hosting by Mr and Mrs Koyama. It’s an experience that redefines what warm welcoming and passion for one’s craft is. Could not recommend doing the tea farm tour any higher.

It is so impressive how this family runs this green tea farm that you should not miss it. Here you have the wonderful opportunity to get to know green tea from the field until it is ready to be enjoyed in your cup. We had booked a tour including a visit to the plantation. The location is about 30 minutes by cab from Uji, so it was definitely worth the trip. On the one hand, it's a beautiful place and on the other, a unique experience. The couple explained everything to us in English with so much love. Afterwards, we were able to enjoy their own organically produced teas. It is so impressive to feel the energy, knowledge and professionalism they put into the tea. We were lucky enough to be able to try some of their newly picked tea.

Simply incredible: one of my favorite experiences I did across my 1 month Japan trip. Yukako & Yoshinori (the owners of the farm) gave me a full tour and completely explained everything about the tea process and their organic farm. Their actual teas were the best I had tasted in Uji and Wazuka. If you're in Kyoto, don't miss this amazing opportunity!

If you want to take a walk and enjoy green tea, I recommended this Japanese tea garden & farm. This green tea garden & farm is also open for visitors. It is JPY500 with 1 cup of tea just for 1 adult to walk in the field. My wife and daughters love the farm too. If you want to relax in natural tea garden, you should visit here first. I’ll visit here with my family again.
