I Found It Was Less Expensive to Take a Ski Vacation in Italy Than in the U.S. — Here's How I Did It

"A family-friendly resort area about three hours’ drive from Val di Fassa that attracts an international crowd; group ski lessons are often taught in English and are affordably priced (around $71 per day). Kid-focused facilities such as a Kids' Safety Park help young skiers build confidence and progress to longer runs." - Stratton Lawrence Stratton Lawrence Stratton Lawrence is a Charleston-based writer covering hotel openings, buzz-worthy restaurants, and in-demand attractions in the Lowcountry and around the U.S. Travel + Leisure Editorial Guidelines

I don’t know about other ski resorts in Italy, but this one is perfect. Love it. Modern lifts, a lot of slopes. Everything is working and perfectly maintained. You have great options for food. Restaurant Kron (self service) is our favourite 😻 And the view is amazing

The slopes are exceptionally well-prepared! The mobile app is excellent and user-friendly, and there’s a great variety of lifts, including gondolas and chairlifts of all types. You’ll find plenty of restaurants both at the base and at the peaks, catering to every need. The slopes offer a wide range of difficulty levels, from easy and relaxed runs to highly challenging ones. Even though the number of visitors can be quite high, there’s more than enough space for everyone to enjoy. In the rare case of an incident, the on-site help and medical teams operate efficiently, with snowmobiles ready to assist and ensure you’re covered. Highly recommended!

Awesome. Not much snow right now but still amazing. Modern lifts, and great slopes. 10/10 totally recommend. Its great for beginner and advanced skiers/snowboarders. It has a slope for everyone.

Easy to park, (go early though). Straightforward board/ski's and boot hire, nice coffee area serving food also. Lifts quick and head to some excellent Black, Blue and Red runs. Pretty good snow covering but changes weekly and they operate snow making machines from base to the top of the slopes. Good food and drink at the top with the addition of the Museum and Photography exhibitions, which were very good especially if your into Photography. Really enjoyed my stay and the Snowboarding.

I enjoyed the ski, even if the temperature was a bit too high and the snow already bad at 11. I do not give 5 stars (even if the place is very very good) because there are a lot of cable cars and you have to remove a lot of time your ski. Surely it is good when weather is not good or windy, but in general I think I’ve removed my ski 20 times…..

I love Kronplatz, its ski slopes are immaculate, wide, support any type of skiers. There are so many things to do apart from just skiing. I love Lumen museum. The restaurants and cafes are on the expensive side, but you can always bring your own food and drinks.

I've been coming here for 10 years and this place never disappoints! The fake snow is great quality and the slopes are prepared well daily. Lots of great dining options available throughout the mountain. Some fun jump parks and timed skislope races where you also have access to a recording of yourself at no cost!
