Krsna's Free Meals

Over the years, I have volunteered at Krsna Free Meals, and it has always been a wonderfully welcoming and inspiring experience. The conversations with Latha, the Co-Founder, and the rest of the team are always warm, humorous, and engaging. Latha and the female staff in particular are empowering role models for women, compassionate, strong, and truly the backbone of the organisation. Volunteering here also means meeting fellow volunteers from diverse backgrounds, making it a fantastic opportunity to connect, learn, and make friends. It’s perfect for anyone who enjoys socialising and being part of a vibrant, supportive community. The work itself is incredibly rewarding. Selling food to migrant workers allows you to experience their genuine gratitude firsthand, it’s a humbling and meaningful experience. And the food! Nutritious, delicious, and full of flavour. At just 50 cents per meal, the value is incredible. Even as someone who doesn’t eat much Indian food, I’ve found the meals consistently tasty. I highly recommend volunteering at Krsna Free Meals — it’s a place full of heart, purpose, and amazing people :)

Volunteering at Krsna’s Free Meals is a very rewarding, hands-on experience, but it’s not a place for idle chitchat or creating social media content. This is about serious, meaningful service. The morning shift is fast-paced and can be hectic, requiring a bit of thick skin and quick adaptation from the get-go. You'll jump into varied tasks, from packing breakfasts to chopping and peeling vegetables and fruits, and taking initiative is always welcomed and rewarded. The strong camaraderie among volunteers makes the busy, sometimes stressful environment feel supportive, but the focus remains squarely on the job at hand. This work feels especially meaningful as it serves a vital but sometimes overlooked community: the migrant workers who contribute and sacrifice so much to making Singapore the incredible place it is. The founders are incredible, working tirelessly at the back and the front of the house, from before dawn to ensure these nutritious meals are ready by 6:30 AM every day. If you’re looking for a place to serve, not a place for ego or personal content, this is it. Seeing their dedication and the direct, positive impact makes the early start truly worthwhile. It’s a fulfilling and humbling way to give back.

❌❌❌❌❌ If I could give negative stars I would. Putting 5 stars so people don't just look at these other planted 5 star reviews from profiles with barely any posts. Probably from the owners themselves💀 I had an extremely disappointing and upsetting experience volunteering here. Many of the staff treated volunteers with obvious disrespect, speaking down to us as if we were beneath them. Their public image online and in the media; warm, kind, and community focused, is completely different from how they behave in person. I also saw another comment that stated: “As someone who volunteers here regularly, I need to offer the perspective missing from some of these reviews.” To me, this does not justify the behaviour I witnessed. Even if some volunteers really have had positive experiences, that doesn’t give the organisation the right to mistreat others or excuse the unprofessional conduct that many others are clearly bringing up. One example that really shocked me was reading about staff member Ms. Latha publicly shaming a group for not wanting to dine in, even saying she pitied their parents. Bringing someone’s parents into the conversation is incredibly inappropriate, disrespectful, humiliating, and plain rude. Volunteers come to help. We don’t deserve to be insulted or embarrassed. What was even more troubling was how migrant workers were spoken to and treated. It felt like they were seen as less worthy and expected to “worship” the organisation for offering cheap meals. Doing a “good deed” does not excuse degrading people or stripping them of dignity. Volunteers give their time and effort, often for the first time in a soup kitchen environment. Even if someone is slower or still learning, that does not justify being shouted at, belittled, or treated like we’re not human. Respect should go both ways. Lastly, there have also been multiple other negative reviews mentioning how rude and condescending the staff are. The only review they responded to was one where a volunteer reported being repeatedly harassed by a male staff member, which makes it even more unsettling. Notice how the organisation rarely responds to negative reviews. To me, that speaks volumes, instead of acknowledging concerns, they stay silent, perhaps because they know these experiences are true and have no defence. I strongly recommend volunteering at other soup kitchens where people are genuinely valued and treated with respect. Don’t waste your time here only to leave feeling hurt and devalued.

📣📣📣 Unbiased review with no filters I love volunteering at Krishna Free Meals. I’ve volunteered here about six times, and I deeply resonate with the cause. The weekly consistency of service and the devotion to God—Krishna / Sri Ram / Hari / Vasudeva—make this experience spiritual for me, not just voluntary. I first volunteered during the last week of December 2025 on weekdays and met some of the most beautiful souls—people filled with service, joy, and kindness, truly reflecting the spirit of volunteering. One co-volunteer did caution me about a weekend volunteer from Hong Kong who is known to be rude, and reminded me that Latha is the only authority—everyone else is equal. From January, I began volunteering on weekends. I usually chant along with the prayers, fully immersed in service. I noticed this HK lady’s odd behavior but chose to ignore it—who wants to deal with negativity at 6:30 in the morning while serving wholeheartedly? However, on Jan 11, she crossed all limits. She made an inappropriate remark questioning whether my eyes were “working properly.” Two other volunteers were visibly taken aback by her behavior as she was rude with them too, and she was equally rude to another male volunteer. This was not an isolated incident—it has happened repeatedly. This is service in the name of Krishna. Her rude, bossy, and disrespectful behavior is poisoning an otherwise sacred and uplifting space, turning it into an unhealthy, office-like environment. If I am not wrong, she is the senior staff referred to by many other reviews and yet this is her crass behavior. If you’re planning to volunteer here—please do. It’s a wonderful place and most people are genuinely kind. Just develop a thick skin around this individual (I believe in Karma) or stand your ground It would be truly appreciated if the founders looked into this and either asked her to correct her behavior or step away. Many volunteers feel uncomfortable, and no one should feel disrespected in a space meant for seva.

My experience volunteering part-time at Krsna's Free Meals for 6 weeks was extremely rewarding and eye opening. The staff at Krsna's Free Meals is extremely dedicated to their work and providing high quality meals to every person they serve. The staff treated me extremely kindly all throughout my time volunteering there and I really appreciated how welcoming they were. I absolutely recommend volunteering at Krsna's Free Meals!

An amazing experience to see how this entity, located in Little India on Veerasamy road supports in delivering free, freshly cooked breakfast, lunch & dinner to hundreds of migrant workers 7 days a week between 6.30 am to 9 pm . They accept donations & encourage you to join in the service. They have a small temple on the 1st floor dedicated to Sri Krishna & Prabhu Pada.

Wow! I have now volunteered here twice and both times have been absolutely amazing. As a 15 yr old the workload is perfect. Not to exhausting, but you are always busy and productive. Both times we have packaged the meals for the migrant workers first and then started chopping the vegetables. It took me a while to learn how to pack the breakfast correctly but the lady in charge and all the other volunteers helped to teach me and always fixed my mistakes. They did this extremely supportively. After each 3 hour volunteering session, I always feel extremely productive and feel like I have done something great for the local community. I recommend volunteering here to absolutely everyone especially people my age!

If I could give a 0-star review, I would. I volunteered at this organisation and, in my personal experience, I did not feel respected by one of the senior staff members. The tone used towards volunteers and staff felt harsh to me, and I personally found the interactions uncomfortable. This was simply my experience , others may feel differently. I would like to end with this: “Treat others the way you would like to be treated.’” I hope this simple concept is not too difficult for your soup kitchen to comprehend
