Japan Travel Guide - Extra Pack of Peanuts

"A beloved hostel modeled on a traditional Japanese ryokan with a warm, family-run atmosphere; it features an onsen (natural hot spring) for bathing and delivers a cozy, authentic ryokan-style stay that the authors call one of their favorite places in the world." - Trav

We stayed at K’s House for two nights and had a wonderful experience. The welcome was very warm, and we were even able to check in a bit earlier since our room was already ready. The house itself is beautiful, and the rooms are spotlessly clean and full of charm. We immediately felt at home! Of course, you should be aware that you’re sleeping on a mattress on the floor, which might not be ideally comfortable for everyone, but we personally found it very cozy. The only downside is that the windows let in a lot of light, so it’s hard to sleep in. The house offers lovely common areas where I felt very comfortable and could also get some work done easily. But what really deserves to be highlighted are the in-house onsens. There is a public one on the ground floor as well as two private ones. The public bath is cozy and quite spacious, while the private ones are more like the size of a bathtub, perfect for one person (or two at most). All of them are charming and impeccably clean. The neighborhood itself is very quiet, but with the nearby train station, several restaurants, and convenience stores, it’s still very convenient. All in all, I can wholeheartedly recommend this house for a wonderful, traditional Japanese experience.

K's House in Ito was the perfect stay for our arrival in Izu Peninsula. The building itself is gorgeous, right on the river, and central to the rest of the town. The staff were lovely and welcoming and there were other travelers from all over the world. My highlights were the room itself with a view of the river and comfy futons that you roll out when you are ready to sleep, and the onsen. The peaceful onsen is the perfect temperature and the water left my skin feeling soft and my muscles relaxed after a long travel day. I would definitely stay here again!

The hostel was in a great location, yet peacefully along the canal. The building had historical character, a very Japanese ambience, attentive and thoughtful staff, lots of relaxing rooms, a fully functional kitchen area and best of all lovely onsen facilities - both public and private. So affordable, if you can, book here!

I enjoyed my stay at K's House - the building is beautiful and well maintained. Both the private and public onsen were very clean. We got to have a real Ryokan experience but on a budget. We stayed in room 205, overlooking the Itoo River, and it was beautiful. My only complaint is that our in-suite toilet had a very strong stench of urine, more than any of the public toilets. It made me feel like they weren't really clean and I preferred using the public ones next to the private onsens as they didn't smell bad at all. The walls are also quite thin so you're dependent on other guests keeping down the noise. Ito itself is a very calm town. There wasn't a whole lot to do but we got the rest we needed and ate some very good sushi.

Exquisite building full of character and style. Two private and one public onsens are certainly a plus too. If you want to feel like you are Chihiro in the bathhouse from spirited away do stay here.

This was very close to the beach, bus lines, and the station. The staff was very kind and attentive. The building was really well kept and beautiful. There were lots of good restaurants and coffee shops nearby.

Absolutely enchanting! What a lovely and unique experience. The town itself is quiet and not much going on, so this stay was great just to relax and enjoy the onsen and the Japanese architecture including the museum next door. The hostel itself was decorated beautifully, onsen clean, lounge areas relaxing, and the kitchen was stocked with many amenities including ice. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll on the trail next to the river. The only two downsides we could think of: There were some mosquitoes, so beware. Although there is some mosquito repellent in one of the lounge areas, I’m not sure what it’s made of, but it makes your skin feel very tight and prickly. After 24 hours, it still hasn’t washed off and feels weird. I don’t recommend using that spray (pictured). Otherwise, great stay for my family of 5!

I can wholeheartedly recommend K's House Ito Onsen to anyone looking for a authentic experience that is still cozy. The building and it's location are absolutely gorgeous and the staff is extremely friendly and accomodating. A very welcome surprise was that the stuff is very proficient in speaking English, especially considering that Ito itself is a bit less tourist-y than a large part of Japan. Basically everything you might need for your stay (e.g. toothbrush, towel, shampoo, etc.) is provided or available to purchase for a very low price. The unironically only potentially negative point I have is that the building is somewhat old and made out of wood and thus not the best noise isolated, so you will likely hear people walking around occasionally and the wind outside can be loud at times. I however am normally not a heavy sleeper and wasn't bothered enough to wake up from these noises. I highly encourage everyone to try the authentic hot spring baths that are included in the normal service while staying there. There are two gender separated "public" baths accessible to every guest staying at the accomodation and multiple private baths for 1 (maybe 2) people that are first come, first served which are really enjoyable, especially as a light first time experience.

Yelp
K's House Itō Onsen was a fantastic place to stay. The 100+ year old wooden building is gorgeous inside and out. Our tatami room was on the third floor and had sliding shoji doors that opened into a small engawa overlooking a view of the river. The private onsen (for hotel guests only, but shared amongst them) in the basement is a highlight and the reason we chose to stay there. The location is great--close to the train station (3 minute cab ride) and surrounded by great bars and restaurants. All the staff were wonderful and helpful too.

Yelp
It was a lovely stay. We slept on the Tatami mats with the Traditional Futon. It was clean and neat. The staff were great. Our room overlooked a calm river. I highly recommend and hope to come back.

Yelp
K'a House Ito Onsen is a beautiful 100-year Old onsen which has been converted into a hostel, so it's so much more than what I'd expected. Location wise, it's near the JR station and also the Orange Beach. The interior is lovely and there's a comfortable lounge with a kotatsu where boarders gathered in the evening to chat and share tidbits. We enjoyed making friends from other countries and sharing travel stories. We had a good room which came en-suite with a bath and toilet. At night, we laid out our futons and had a bath at the Onsen before retiring for the night. We also stored our luggage here while we went exploring Jogasaki Coast and Mount Omuro. K's House had the itinerary posted on the kitchen noticeboard and we followed the advise for a really great day out.

Yelp
Absolutely Amazing hostel! I cannot believe I was able to stay here for hostel prices. This is a beautiful 100 year old building turned into a hostel. The entire place is Japanese rokyan style and has a built in onsen (which is incredible). They will also provide you with japanese robes, have towel rentals, laundry facitlies and a kitchen (they also give you free jam in the mornings for your toast which is awesome! High recommend staying here if you travel to Japan - super relaxing experience!
