MY FAVORITE HOSTEL IN JAPAN. I have only stayed in one other hostel in Narita but still I love how the staff at K's House were just so darned great to me. On to my review.
Arrived in Japan in need of last-minute cheap arrangements. At the airport, I googled Japan hostels & after looking through quite a few, decided on the K's House in Asakusa. The directions to get there are clear enough, & booking thru the website was easy. The facebook page is quite lively, though their yelp presence is minimal (see their google reviews/fb page for more reviews). I arrived around 10 am on a Monday. Was told I couldnt check in for another hour or so, but I could bring my bag up to the room I'd be staying in on 3rd (?) floor (all female dorm). Paid ~$28 for 1 night and hung out in the cute "lobby" (more like a dayroom) chatting with strangers til 11 am, when I was told I could claim my bed because the room was now "clean" (side note: in Japan, EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS CLEAN. Not that I minded the wait..). I went upstairs & claimed my bed. The all female dorm has just 5 beds, 2 are bunk style and there is one by the far wall, which I claimed. Was told that the hostel was at full capacity as there were many groups of travelers coming thru to snowboard & travel. Met a bunch of them my 2nd day when I signed up for the free tour of Asakusa offered by the staff. Australian, Cambodian, European, Brits, Americans, old, young, you name it, all sorts stay at K's House & I met them ALL. Very great people.
Moving on, the dorm rooms are divided into all female, all male, mixed co-ed, and single rooms available for couples or families on the various 6 floors. Wifi is provided with a password. Smoking allowed only on 4th floor balcony. Shower for female dorm is on 4th floor as well. They offer to hold your luggage for no charge as well. Rooms and showers are CLEAN & the female dorm has a toilet inside as well as a sink. There is also a toilet and sink next to the coin-operated laundry room (forgot what floor its on). The bidets are the nice kind, not the cheap kind that sprays you everywhere thankfully. There is a tiny elevator that's big enough to fit just you, a large piece of luggage, and a small piece of luggage perhaps. I wouldn't chance it with more. Another common restroom is located just off the lobby. Your stay comes with free coffee and bread/toast in the morning, which is provided but if you want more there is a wonderful bakery not far on the right side down the street. There is a shared fridge, toaster, microwave, & kitchen in the lobby area. Also lobby has 2 types of tables to eat, one a traditional low Japanese style complete with cushions and tatami, and another 5 seater regular table. There are maps and signs everywhere which help instruct you on etiquette, which is a good reminder for all.
Location is great as it is located near the subway, a few stops away from a JR line so no problems with trains or transferring either. Convenience stores and other cool places to see are shown on a hand-drawn map available to you at check-in. Overall, will 100% come back. It gets busy so make sure you book as early as possible.
