We do most of our shopping here thanks to the nice produce, meats, seafood, bakery and selection of Asian foods. This particular store has the best selection of Japanese specialties and fresh fish, two very important items for us (the Mrs if from Japan). They stock the Parker Ranch grass fed beef, which I find to be excellent! It does not hurt to call ahead as they don’t always have a wide selection. It’s also the only store in town. I’ve been been able to find fresh ground pork. As for fish, they always have some nice fresh cuts, and even whole fish to choose from, the best selection of local fish we’ve found! Also, Kauai Shrimp and sometimes fresh Big Island shrimp! We love their prepared foods, and the poke is awesome! They also have a nice wine selection and carry the Ola Hard Juices, my favorite! We find the staff PARTICULARLY friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! The rewards club is great too!

This Japanese Super market in big island Hawaii opened for over 100years!! Amazing food and great selection of Japanese grocery and local food !! Can’t believe they have been done for North American society!! Amazing business 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🇯🇵🇺🇸

Google
I love their poke! I'm not familiar with this grocery store, but I really enjoyed my first time shopping there. It was clean, organized and had a lot of variety. Seriously, their poke is excellent.

KTA Superstore – We made several stops at KTA Superstore during our trip to the Big Island, mainly for groceries and fresh local ingredients. Being a home chef, I come prepared with a lot of spices and a well prepared menu for our 7 days. It’s a well-stocked store with a good selection of produce, meats, and Hawaiian specialties. The fresh produce section had some great finds, but prices were steep— $18 for 18 eggs due to the ongoing bird flu issues. Luckily, we found a slightly better deal on eggs at $8 per dozen and grabbed two. Worth noting for memories of 2025! One of the highlights was the fresh ahi poke selection. We picked up high-quality ahi that we used to make delicious poke bowls back at our rental. Much better than what we had at Big Kahuna Grill and way cheaper. Pros: ✔️ Well-stocked with essentials and local specialties ✔️ Convenient locations for travelers staying in Kona ✔️ High-quality poke and fresh seafood Bottom Line: KTA Superstore is a great stop for fresh local ingredients and meal prep supplies, but expect to pay a premium. If you’re staying in a rental and planning to cook, it’s still more cost-effective than eating out every night, but shopping smart is key! Here’s a few pictures of meals we made: Teriyaki Chicken, made Chinese Chicken Salad with Leftover, Poki Bowls, Ono Fish Tacos, Asian Sticky Ribs, Hawaiian Macaroni Salad, the best breakfasts and so much more! I think I want to write a cookbook now.

Google
First came here to shop some deli foods for quick meals. They have so many Asian foods and we found some hot Japanese deli for half priced at almost closing time! ( Regular price was affordable!) They were actually delicious, and shop staff were very helpful and friendly for tourists like us.

Google
one of my go-to grocery stores as they serve local, fresh produce from the farm. Fresh catch seafood. Fresh baked pastries and deli sandwiches. I consider going here for party platters as well.

Google
While we were in Hawaii, we visited this store to buy our groceries. We were impressed by the great variety of foods available. Our favorite items were the papaya, local sodas, and masubi made by the chefs. I can't wait to return!

Google
Good prices for groceries in Kona, way cheaper than Safeway. The KTA in Keauhou has better meat & produce but is priced a bit higher.

Claudia L.

Yelp
Cake, cake, cake--did I mention the cake? It was absolutely amazing! We needed a last-minute birthday cake in an emergency, so we followed a local's recommendation and went to KYA. It exceeded all our expectations--better than many professional bakeries! We ordered a 1/4 sheet chocolate cake with beach-themed decorations, and it was so moist, fluffy, and utterly delightful. give them a try--you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
This is a great place to shop like a local when you're visiting the island. Excellent Poke and super fresh produce! They have most everything you would need and they're locally owned. https://www.gohawaii.com/listing/kta-super-stores-kona/146

Yelp
It's no secret that whenever I go to da Big Island, GARANS Bruddah Fran is gonna stop by at one of da KTA Super Stores! In this case, I had to stop by da Kailua-Kona location (as I was working in the area) for my morning cup of Joe, & a quick snack as I was on the run the entire day. KTA Super Stores is locally owned by the Taniguchi family, and through the years, the family has done a lot in the community. When I shop at KTA, at least I know that my dollars are flowing back into local hands. My favorite KTA store is probably the Hilo Puainako store, but I'm glad they have other stores all over the Big Island like in - Kailua-Kona, Waimea (Kamuela), Downtown Hilo, Waikoloa Village, & Keauhou. The Kailua-Kona location appears to be much smaller then the Hilo Puainako location that I favor, but at least coming to the Kailua-Kona store, I can find what I needed. For a little history about the KTA Stores, see this link - https://www.ktasuperstores.com/company-milestones Friendly customer service, lots of free parking at the Kona Coast Shopping Center, so access is pretty easy. What more can you ask for? Shop local, and support local whenever you can!

Yelp
More of a correction than an update. My grammatical errors were killing me when I went back and read my orignal review... I was in Kona for about six days near the end of March and KTA was about a five min walk from our Airbnb. After the first day I found out I was about the only early riser and I also found out my traveling partners (three couples total) sucked. Their idea of vacation in Hawaii was to sit in a hot tub, eat pizza, and enjoy an occasional sunset on the lanai... I can do that in Iowa. Add subpar traveling partners with how expensive it is to eat in Hawaii...along with having a KTA literally in your backyard...and it was the perfect storm. My second morning on the Big Island I walked to the KTA and visited with the ladies in the bakery section. Rinse and repeat. By about the third day I felt like we had become friends. Here in Iowa we have supermarkets with bakeries and hot and ready counters too, but this KTA made it easy for me to try some "local" dishes that I had heard about but couldn't necessarily get to someplace else. Loco moco, poke, and so many malasadas...along with other sweet and savory treats. The staff here was continually great to deal with. So polite and they seemed to live under the philisophy that there is no dumb question. Even when we all know there sure are... This simple hospitality, along with a canoe club mom that I met at Honaunau who shared the canoe club culture with me, are two little things that made big Hawaiian memories for me. I will cherish these memories for the rest of my life. While you are in Hawaiii... If you're not spending time talking to the people who live here, and learning about Hawaiian culture, you're wasting a special opportunity. Treat the people and the land with respect, ask questions, and take the time to listen.

Yelp
Was looking for salmon poke but at the time they didn't have it. I've had it before there tho and it was very good

Matt S.

Yelp
If I were to look up the definition of Aloha, a photo of the staff members were come up. Staff was extremely nice. The ladies at the poke section insisted we sample all the poke we wanted before buying. The poke was extremely delicious. My favorite was the Wasabi aha and you'll be satisfied with anything from their selection. They saved our trip because they had swim diapers in stock for my twins when other stores didn't have any available. Great grocery story for convenience and good prices

Boogers And Cu M.

Yelp
This is the store I normally shop at for the smaller items and Asian condiments I cannot get elsewhere. I enjoy not only the people who work there, but I also really enjoy the locals who I meet in there too.

Jamal C.

Yelp
I stopped at KTA Superstore to pick up some breakfast Malasada's for my class. KTA is a very popular bakery. When I walked in there was a crazy line. I jokingly asked where does the line start. We all started laughing. These ladies served is quickly. The staff enjoyed the Malasada's tremendously. Huge Hit. Mahalo

Philip L.

Yelp
The main local supermarket chain with a nice mix of Asian and Western goods. Theres hot food in the back of store like spam musubi and asian bottled drinks. Had some very nice looking spinach, produce section isnt bad. Seems like a popular place for locals.

Carol F.

Yelp
Kona, HI is a magical community and I'm so grateful to have recently spent a week at the gorgeous, welcoming and spacious Outrigger Resort and Spa. Our room came equipped with a refrigerator... KTA Supermarket made the stay ideal. You must take out sumptuous hot foods from a sweet woman who prepares incredible stew, ribs, fried chicken thighs. Huge portions, HOT, amazing and affordable! HI is expensive and buying foods/snacks from KTA was the perfect alternative to dining out for every meal. Greek yogurt and granola, muffins, macadamia nuts, fruit, salad ingredients and an amazing choice of ginger/sesame dressing. Hummus and tortilla chips. Everything you could possibly want AND MORE! You MUST also order from the large selection of cold seafood and poke varieties, also prepared by another independent Vendor. A great way to satisfy your needs reasonably. Purchase their zippered insulated bags which you will surely take home. Splurge on other activities like the Botannical Gardens, rent a car and drive through the mountains, witness the active volcano, beautiful beaches. THANK YOU KTA SUPERMARKET!

Zo M.

Yelp
Love shopping at local stores in Kona for fun items and small gifts for friends back home. Service always with a mahalo.

Alek H.

Yelp
Loved the prices and loved the selection of poke and fruits. Much better than tourist trap markets closer to the water. Stocked up on all the things I need to eat for my trip. The store wasn't as clean as I would expect from a market this size, but nevertheless I got what I needed. One of the cashiers was rude to us when we were checking out.

Adam L.

Yelp
It located less than eight miles from the Kona International Airport. Drove south along HI-19 Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway then right turned at HI-190 Palani Road. Opened daily from 6am to 9pm. Besides groceries, it offered many ready-to-eat food items as well. The cashier was very friendly and professional.

Eva G.

Yelp
This market is the go to food store in the area. I always find what I need. They have everything from fresh poke, to many assorted supplies for baking and cooking, etc

Trinh A.

Yelp
They were out of rice when we came around 3pm :( The poke was still good and fresh. We got 1/2 pound of 2 different fish and it was wayyyy to much to finish lol. It's good but I prefer Sack N Save's poke!

Kate C.

Yelp
Came here for a quick snack before heading for a long drive. They have plenty of ready to eat foods including poke, onigiri, karaage, musubis, sandwiches. They have spam and egg musubi here which I wanted to try but their price of 1 musubi is the same price as 2 musubis of neighbouring restaurants. We opted for karaage instead. Was very good. Still crispy and had a nice sauce

Helen L.

Yelp
This is the go-to supermarket like local folks. There's a poke deli in the back. Of course, the poke is just ok, but it is still poke. The musubi was good. The haupia was yummy but they don'thave it all the time. There's always something i see in there that is interesting. The cashiers are high schoolers. Papayas were 1.39 lb.

Alex Y.

Yelp
Support a local grocery store! This KTA was pretty well stocked. Their fresh sliced deli meat is surprisingly good, grab it at the deli counter (turkey and chicken were both fresh and tasted so much better than the prepackaged stuff). The bento/onigiri selection is decent and they sometimes have half price specials. Sometimes the chicken can be too salty. Produce is generally ok, just choose wisely! Overall good spot to get your groceries on the island.

Feb W.

Yelp
I love KTA! It's like Times Supermarket version in Oahu! The vibe is locally welcoming and love the setup on this store. Came here for more water and snacks. Upon entering nobody greeted us, that's fine. Hand sanitizer was provided upfront. The store is neat and every goodies on the aisle were promptly arranged. They don't have a lot of produce selection but what's available are good looking ones and freshly picked. While browsing I am so happy that I found some goodies that I'm familiar of. Upon checkout we were happily greeted and the woman is so helpful. Love the vibes on this store. We had everything that we need in our cart and we're happily leaving the store! Mahalo for reading and happy juandering fellow yeeps!

Joshua P.

Yelp
Dirty. Expensive. Not island friendly. Not sure why, but when I walk in and there is five or six staff members just sitting there talking, and nobody even bothered to greet us... I don't know why that bothers me, but it does. I just miss the good old days of customer, service, and kindness. We walked in - the layout was strange. Our cart barely rolled - and not straight... the experience was bad and a non-repeat.

EH E.

Yelp
Superb Japanese prepared food vendor at back of store! Everything from inari to onigiri to various bentos and haupia desserts.

Corrine Y.

Yelp
The food in KTA ruined my marriage,my life and took my kids from me they had egg shells all in our egg sandos which is a crime and a half to do and found plastic in some of our foods i don't know about yall but I prefer my plastics in my food MICRO PLASTIC i dont know just a preference I think KTA should check their food and double check if not triple check food safety

Melissa L.

Yelp
Support the local businesses! KTA had a lot of freshly prepared items at reasonable prices. The shelves were neatly and fully stocked and we found a lot of unique items. As a plus, during our stop we found Kona coffee on sale so I was able to purchase a few bags for friends as gifts. Many of the items were either from Asia or catered to Asian tastes but they otherwise carried items found at a regular supermarket. The best part was I was able to find plenty of locally made items. Service was so friendly each time we visited.

Paul N.

Yelp
Pretty great and convenient location right near Historic Kailua Village and also next door to the Kona Kai Condos where I was staying for a few days. Yes, prices on the Big Island of Hawaii are expensive as to be expected, but KTA Super Stores has plenty of great groceries, merchandise and fresh food that you need along with locally made items. Service is also very excellent and friendly, which helps a lot! Store itself is nicely organized and clean! I hope to be back to KTA Super Stores when returning to the Big Island of Hawaii!

Robbos E.

Yelp
The store looks a bit dated, but is clean, locally-owned, has super-friendly staff, and definitely has the widest selection of locally-grown coffees, locally-grown produce, and locally-distilled and brewed alcohol of any grocer in town. The prices are pretty good for Hawai'i, but I know will seem high to tourists. Not so many vegan convenience foods, but still my favorite grocer in town.

Shirley N.

Yelp
On our way to KOA we made a last minute stop here for spam musubi to eat on the plane. We bought six. Waiting in line to pay I spotted Stone Cookies from Mt View bakery. Grabbed a bag of chocolate chip cookies. Next time we're on the Big Island we'll make a point of shopping at this KTA. Bigger supermarket than the one at Keauhou. On the plane several hours later the spam musubi hit the spot.

Joan M.

Yelp
We needed to get some necessities for our stay in Hawaii and decided to go to a local supermarket rather than the usual stores you get on the mainland. So we chose KTA & we definitely found that its a store frequented by locals more so than tourists. It has a huge Asian/Japanese influence in the goods offered. Some things we looked for we couldn't get but then we're pleasantly surprised at the unusual stuff they carry. Prices were very fair for Hawaii but we definitely paid more than we would on the mainland. It was a busy store with families shopping. Not a lot of organic goods to be found, more basic offerings in my opinion. They do sell beer wine and spirits though! They also have a small bakery and deli section. Overall a pleasant experience.

Ruby S.

Yelp
No FOODLAND close by so we picked up Poke & snacks for beach day here. As always everyone's genuinely helpful! Only FOODLAND on the island is further north, closer to Hilo.

Shawn A.

Yelp
Well, got to say her a lot of height about this place. Just want to say that the pastries themselves are pretty good. The food on the other hand is something to be desired. Portions are small. The prices are high, yes I know this is Hawaii and everything is expensive. But when you serve loco Moco in a sandwich size to go to container for upwards of $15-$20,, and that's expensive. not to be fair my wife and oldest son had burgers and they were OK. My youngest had a wrap that was OK as well, but the side of chips that came with had virtually no flavor. So, to be fair, I haven't explored the entire menu, but, the local Mococo was probably the worst I've ever had on any island. I hate to say that because I know this place has an establish reputation for sometime. I will say the pastries are good. And reasonably priced for the size that you get I hope that someday that the menu will get better food wise and hope to return soon to give it another shot. The service was good Most of the seating is outside and attached to part of the building where you could see them make the pastries and a gift shop as well. If you're going from Hilo to Kona, stop and get a pastry, but skip the food.

Joseph Y.

Yelp
I was looking for some Asian food selection. They do have some Japanese food but not comprehensive enough to cover all Asian selection. To me, they are like a Safeway instead.

Donghui Y.

Yelp
Great store. The fruits are amazingly fresh. We can never find that fresh mango and papaya.

Brigitte L.

Yelp
Asian grocery store! I love these stores and could spend a lot of time just browsing all the stuff!! They have Asian groceries as well as local coffees, nuts, etc. Store is relatively organized and clean. Masks required and they have you take sanitizer on your way in. They have paper bags if you didn't bring your own or you can be like us and purchase a bag from them to carry your grocery items.

David Foodie F.

Yelp
awesome store and great customer service... wish they had more thai items ... over all good store

Mia K.

Yelp
Has a great variety of Asian produce ($$!), products, wine & beer, ice, and Hawaiian and Japanese influenced prepared food. Easy to navigate but a bit smaller and dimmer than supermarkets. Ready made food (listed here can be found at the back of the store to the right corner of the store) 1. marinated meats 2. poke, by the pound, poke bowls & platters, pickles 3. bentos and sushi rolls 4. musubi ($2.50; easy food for airplane; may be placed by the bakery during off peak hours) 5. onigiri triangle ($1.50-1.75; triangle shaped rice with a little savory filling in the center all wrapped in nori that is not crispy anymore) Bakery: Pastries & Cake (by the right wall of the store) are surprisingly very good here. Banana cake ($1.99) was deliciously moist. Generous toppings/fillings make for a good value. Some are heavy! Like: 1. Mac Nut Danish ($2.59) is topped entirely with macadamia nuts 2. coconut pastry is truly stuffed with sweetened shredded coconut 3. red bean pastry 4. maple bacon donut is Excellent ($2.09) Sandwiches $4+ & Salads $5-7 (by the right wall of the store) Service everyone with nice atitude Located -in the Kona Coast Shopping Center with Jamba Juice & Kona Coffee & Tea. -plaza is SW of intersection of Hwy & Palani Rd -1 traffic light north of WalMart

Melinda R.

Yelp
KTA is such a convenient to go to from our airbnb. The staff are really nice. They have a deli where you can buy poke bowls. Definitely something we learned from the locals- well school kids coming back from school to get a snack. There were a number of them, so why not try it!

Savannah R.

Yelp
KTA has amazing grocery items, but I would come here specifically for the freshly-made sushi. I usually get the Spicy Tuna roll and the California roll. Both rolls were tasty and affordable, too.

Jean L.

Yelp
KTA had everything we needed for our stay. They have fresh local produce, lots of asian products like korean instant noodles, charcuterie meats, and delicious ready to eat food. We tried the local poke, ahi sesame, and ahi furikake. Ahi furikake was my favorite but all were tasty! You can get it with or without rice. They also had musubis, bento boxes, and chirashi bowls. Good selection of local candies too!

Karen R.

Yelp
This review is specific to the KTA Meat Department. So why is this vegan giving the Meat Department a 5 star review? I am so grateful to head butcher, Garrett, for hand cutting the heart I purchase for my dogs into tiny pieces. I find it very hard to cut up the heart, even after it's cooked. KTA Meat Dept to the rescue! I am so appreciative to the great team: Garrett, Chris, Jay, Issac and Jason. And if the department is closed by the time I arrive, Romeo or others will go in the back and get the hearts for me. They'll even give me an ice pack to make sure the hearts arrive fresh to my house. I am so grateful to KTA, as well as Arlene, the wonderful store manager! My dogs give KTA 5 paws up, as well :)

Sandy M.

Yelp
Love the variety of the store! There are lots of Hawaiian specialty items here as well as asian snacks and all. They also have an insect repellent called Bloc which is all natural and even locals recommend it. Super random, but their musubi is really good as well (they do get it from a vendor and it doesn't come in until 10am, which was too late for my flight). Overall, highly recommend the store! Employees are helpful and responsive as well.

Christine J.

Yelp
Good selection of items. I went to purchase some poke since Foodland was not close to my hotel. Unfortunately, the poke is not made fresh. They had the leftovers out with the exception of the fresh ahi poke. But, the sign said 20.99/lb. I bought a pound but then I was told it was about $32. I asked her if she had given me more than a pound. She said no. I told her if it's a pound then it should be 20.99 total. She finally understood after I pointed out that the machine was showing a different price. She wrote out a receipt to give to the cashier and they said they would fix it. Buyer beware. Check your prices!! The prices are very high in general for all of their items. If you can get to a Foodland, it's so much better. Btw, the shrimp tasted sour and had to be thrown away. I don't know how long they're serving all the leftovers. Bad business!

Paul B.

Yelp
Solid 4. Selections of foreign foods not found on the mainland is impressive- especially Asian Grocery and some gift items. Bakery and typical grocery fare.

Helene S.

Yelp
Always fun to shop at local grocery stores. So many different types of fruits, nuts and coffees. Bring a plastic bag, because they don't provide them at the store.

Ka V.

Yelp
Had mostly every ingredient I needed to make chicken pho! Would recommend this if you're looking for all asian condiments!

Blake A.

Yelp
If you haven't had any before, you need to try apple bananas. They're a variety of bananas that as far as I can tell are only available in Hawaii, and they taste so much better than standard bananas. If you want to buy some of these and other local treats, KTA is really convenient! The only thing that wasn't great was that pineapples were all over $5 for some reason. Everything else seemed reasonably priced though.

Tori O.

Yelp
5 Stars for service!!! I was looking for an unusual liquor item and had been to numerous places when I began to call. Two of the employees here went out of their way to help me over the phone. They both tried so hard and did find what I needed. As it turned out, it was the last one, and they kind of protected it until I got there to pick it up. Over and above ; great great service, can't say enough good things Mahalo seriously Mahalo!

sandy b.

Yelp
I really liked the local feel of this store. Many fruits and veggies from local farms and typical of HI but no common on the mainland. We tried apple bananas ( a bit tart but good, they're small) which was also sold dried , papaya in various sizes and shapes, taro a purple potato from Asia. Many breads and loads of yummy cookies, almost all with coconut or macadamia nuts. My favorite was the Lilikoi cookie and Kona coffee ones.

Stephanie E.

Yelp
Love KTA! All the food you need and so much you want! The staff is friendly, helpful, and funny. Support the local store, they've been around forever and carry so much a box chain won't. Don't let this store slip away!

Trevor F.

Yelp
Great bakery and hot dish deli! Everyone was very helpful. Loved the breakfast musubi and malasadas

Tom V.

Yelp
I realize there are many grocery stores in and around Kona, but we stopped in here when we first arrived and returned two more times out of convenience; so I can't really compare it to other grocery stores here. They had a okay selection and had everything we needed (or wanted for the most part). I'm not going to bag on the prices, as I understand that most everything in Hawaii costs more due to having much of it brought in if not locally produced. They were quite anal about their covid protocol, basically demanding you get hosed down with a blast of antiseptic on your hands before being allowed to enter the business. Whatever, so be it, squirt away... Overall I would recommend this place, if convenient, for your needs as a tourist wanting to have beer, water or food items for wherever you are staying.
