At this KTA store, they offer a wide selection of authentic Japanese bento boxes from Shionoya. Everything is reasonably priced and absolutely delicious.
We tried the Onigiri—Takana ($2.50), Kombu ($2.50), and Spicy Tuna Mayo ($3)—as well as the Gindara Miso Yaki Bento ($15), Grilled Mackerel Bento ($10.50), Guava Lychee Pearl ($4.50), and Mitarashi Dango ($5.50).
The Gindara Miso Yaki Bento features miso-glazed black cod, which is labeled as “Butter Fish” on the packaging. While the name might be a little confusing, it’s actually black cod (sablefish)—rich, tender, and packed with umami. It was the highlight of our meal and absolutely delicious!
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that one of the main reasons we came on this trip was to enjoy these bentos😂—they’re just that good.💕

We stopped by Shionoya (KTA) to pick up food for before and after our sunset viewing at the summit of Mauna Kea. We got two miso black cod bentos, two kalbi bentos, six onigiri, a coconut boba, a croquette, and some mitarashi dango. Everything was fresh and delicious — perfect for fueling up before the long drive and winding down afterward.

We had a seafood rice bowl, skewered sweet rice dumplings (dango), inari sushi (tofu-skin-wrapped rice), and four rice balls (onigiri).

Tomorrow's beach is a remote, nature-surrounded spot with no food or water available, so we're stocking up here.🤤
