When we checked into our hotel, the concierge told us about this store and how we could walk there without walking on the highway. So, the next morning we headed there to German something for breakfast. I got the grilled bacon, egg and cheese, my husband got the grilled ham and cheese. Both came on a fresh roll - not sure what kind but very good. Fortunately after they were grilled, they cut them in half. We also got a local fruit and ginger drink, which 2 of the staff attested would taste good. We also got a chocolate brownie. So the place had a fun vibe and was fun to check out, the selection of foods, snacks, and things to drink, including wine, was very complete. And the staff were very friendly, having fun and helpful. So - if you’re just outside Paia, maybe headed for Hana, it’s a great place to stop for some goodies to eat on the trip!

Ok it’s been 9 years since I first visited (and my only time as I was on vacation from Chicago) but I had the best breakfast burrito of my life here and I’ve been dying to go back. It was unexpected as this was our first stop on the way to Road to Hana for snacks. The burrito was life changing.

This place is what I look forward to everyday, truly! They easily have the best coffee on island and the pastries, poke and paninis are second to none. Even the smoothies are nutritious and health packed. Most things are certified organic, prepared in-house and the workers are diligent about food safety and providing quality customer service! They know their regular’s drinks and orders by heart and have built an incredible family; employees and customers! The grab and go food is also exceptional, as there is a plethora of healthy freshly made foods to choose from! If you haven’t been in, it’s worth a stop to see it and experience it for yourself. The best place to stop on your way in or out of Hana as well — there’s so many other essential things sold there as well, like sunscreen and booze, haha! An ATM as well! It honestly has everything one could possibly need and the people are incredible!

💓💓💓This is my most visited small business on Island, I am a Postpartum Doula here and my mornings are not complete without my dose of healthy to go items, Coffee and above all the smile warmth and love of the employees! One human in particular Sean KU Kainoa who greets with a smile during those morning rushes, always remembers how I love it and pulls a shot perfect every time!!! Go see Sean and crew, Amanda with her warm attentive details, Ariel with her bubbly smile…. And the baked goods, did I mention the baked goods? This place is world class and I really love how the owner provides healthy organic goods!!! Mahalo Mahalo Mahalo!!!!!

The food was pretty good. I loved my poke. My husband’s sandwich was fine. But, just one of the workers at the shop was not that nice to us. If I will go back around there, I might stop by this shop. I just wish they can be nicer to their customers.

Google
If you like great food, local ingredients and very cool and clever ideas for food, this is the place. The service is terrible. The two young ladies working behind the counter that think it's much more important to carry on their conversation than to attend to the customers standing them in front of them waiting. This goes out especially to the girls working at 10 :30 on Monday, March 3rd. 2025

Anytime we are on this side of the island, we always stop in for a bowl of chicken salad to go. Its amazing every time.

Yelp
My favorite bowl of poke was a bowl from Kuau Store with the Ke'anae Penninsula view and Aunty Sandy's banana bread for dessert. We found this place serendipitously after fueling up for the Road to Hana. They must have lots of travelers come through--we were assured the poke would last in the car the few hours until lunch, and as far as I can tell that was true. Small shop with lots of novelties to browse. Loved the deli section with poke and so many salads!

Yelp
Great food. Many options for vegans. Great service. Stop in as you travel the road to Hana

Yelp
This little market has the BEST poke. The furikake and shoyu poke were ono. It's a favorite stop when Paia side or when heading back from the airport. They have one high top table inside with 6 seats or you can take your poke with you to nearby Ho'okipa beach.

Yelp
Nice and clean little store on the road to Hana passing Paia.. They dont have bathrooms, so dont expect that, but were nice enough to give us directions to the nearest ones. They have a deli which is half of the market. I did try there spiced poke plate which only comes with rice, and my wife had the hawaiian bbq platter, which came with mac salad, rice and 4 pieces of chicken.. It was a lot of food on her plate.. The Poke was reallly good and fresh. Only thing i didnt care for was the mac salad. Wasnt bad, but ive had different. The service was really good and they were really nice.

Yelp
Loved stopping here for some snacks before we hit the "Road to Hana". They have a great photo opp outside as well - a line with tons of colorful surfboards! Great little spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Love all of their premade food/snack selections. Their chicken salad was so good, we will be going back soon to get it again! Reasonable prices and nice cashiers made the experience even better.

Yelp
Located in a little corner shop. I think it tastes better than Foodland, my husband disagrees. Minus 1 star for small portions.

Yelp
I followed the Google directions blue line directly to the storefront. I easily walked in through the front door that was not locked. Apparently they had closed that door from the inside. They did not let me know when I entered that I would be refused to service for anything in the store. just following the directions on my phone. The lights were on there were people in there. I had no reason to believe the door I was going through was closed. I waited behind other patrons just to be called out in front of other people and embarrassed because they would not serve me absolutely anything because I came into the wrong door. I was literally just following Google directions. Don't worry, I will never be back.

Yelp
So I figured i would stop here on my way home because I used to stop by here for a plate lunch or drink for well over 30 years. The last time I had stopped by was when the new owners had taken over and they didn't have much. Fast forward to today I figured ok they are on way home stop in and get some food and a drink. So I stop in around 3 or 3:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. I am the only person in the store. There are at least 5 to 6 employees. Not a single one of them says hi until I walk up to the lady at the register. Now I have been browsing the store for at least 5 min and standing at the deli for almost as long not one person said hi how are you, hi we will be right with you. Now i am dressed in a nice aloha shirt slacks and dress shoes. The only person who even attempted to say anything was the cashier and I did have a soda in my hand. She was the first and only person to speak to me. So basically I cant tell you about the food I can tell you that the service sucks. Which is sad because a few things looked edible maybe even good. I did let the cashier know that I would have bought food if someone had just acknowledged me and said we will be right with you. I can tell you there are a lot of local business on Maui that do have friendly staff. This is just not one of the. Not recommended.

Yelp
We were wanted to get poke for lunch and saw that this store was close to our Airbnb and had high reviews. I'm so glad that we did because this ended up being our favorite poke that we had during our entire trip (and we had a lot of poke during this trip). They have 3 options for poke here: ahi shoyu, spicy ahi, and furikake ahi. You can either buy a poke bowl which comes with rice or can buy the poke on its own per pound. We tried all 3 types of poke and WOW they were so delicious!! The poke here tastes extremely fresh and the flavors of all of them were soooo good. I'd say that ahi shoyu is a must try; me and my fiancé both agreed that it was our favorite from the 3 flavors but you honestly can't go wrong with any of the 3. This is a convenience store so there's not much to say about service or ambiance and I only came for the poke but I think just the quality of the poke alone makes this place deserving of 5 stars. I 100000% recommend coming to check it out!

Yelp
Two stars because the guy seemed nice but after he offered to put some rice in my soup, it ended up being 1/4 cup of soup and 2 Portuguese sausage. Not a place for locals

Yelp
We've always stuck to Tamura's when we visit Maui but this year we went to try Kuau store poke and it was really good.

Yelp
This place is a naturalist dream! So many wonderful environmentally friendly products from juices and salads to espresso, breakfast sandwiches, crackers, wine, charcuterie etc. Also local products such as honey, hand made items, stickers etc. in addition to grabbing our coffee there the last two mornings we also picked up a couple cute stickers. One for my friend who loves roosters, it's a bamboo sticker! And one for my nephew Dillian. Whether you "need" anything or not this place is well worth popping in for a few.

Yelp
I think I found one of the best poke in Maui. It's located on Hana Hwy right by Ho'okipa Beach in Paia. Fresh Fresh Fresh. They don't sell many kind of poke, only three kind of poke in small batches each day that's why it's better than Safeway's poke. (Sorry, Foodland's poke is still better). But their Spicy ahi poke and shoyu poke are better than the most in Maui. I recommend.

Yelp
Wow I just went at 5 :45 pm Thursday 17 of April . Everything was good bought a few items and went to pay and my bill was 23.47 I know I looked at it twice . Yelp
I stopped in on the way back to the house and was pleasantly surprised. What looks like dinky store from the street, has a deli, wine, snack and souvenirs section. Cute store, lots of surprises around every aisle, and super friendly staff.
google avatar

Yelp
They only had furikake poke by the time I got there, 2pm. It was so tasty and fresh! Friendly staff especially uncle that mentioned he played in a band- cute store. Must to stop and sample the poke

Yelp
Poke: yes! Fern salad: yes! Sooooo good. I only need these two things and it was a perfect lunch.

Yelp
This store should be renamed "Life-saver Kuau Store". They really come through on your Road to Hana essentials and they have the best Caprese sandwich, which is better toasted. We stocked up on some food and snacks before starting our road trip and everything came in so handy and didn't find another store like this during the whole road trip. Must-Visit on the Road to Hana, more for necessity.

Yelp
Nice place. We were on the Road to Hana, and stopped in for water - we needed more after going through all that we brought. I also grabbed some other stuff we were looking for. The staff is nice.

Yelp
I stopped by this store several times during my vacation in Maui, as it happened to be down the street from where I was staying. They have a lot of stuff going on. I like how they have healthy and organic drinks, snacks and food, yet they also have delicious plate lunches. They literally have everything from ice cream and alcohol to banana bread and lattes. I only tried several items - the raspberry mango lemonade drink and the strawberry limeade. Both were outstanding and refreshing! They come in a mason jar and they have real fruit inside. They are a bit on the expensive side at $6.99 per drink, but it was worth it to me. I also got the banana bread, as I had read in the reviews that it was out of this world. And I must admit... it was very moist and tasty! I asked if it was baked fresh that morning, and they said no - it was frozen and then thawed out. The reason for the 3 stars instead of 4 is that the employees are not the friendliest. I interacted with several of them and none of them had the aloha spirit. The other reason for 3 stars is that their prices are a bit high.

Yelp
We were on the hunt for the best poke on Maui and I think we found it here. I saw Kuau Store recommended through a couple different Youtube videos and even though there aren't 1000 reviews, they're all good for a reason. The rice was hot and fresh and they were generous with their servings. We got a scoop of each type of poke they offered and it was really nicely seasoned and the fish was firm and not mushy. When they call it eskimo candy, it truly is that good. It seems small and it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it but step away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Paia and check it out for not only poke but an amazing market with lots of healthy (and unhealthy) options that I did not see elsewhere on the island. In addition, everyone working there was super friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
I'm so grateful for this place! Great atmosphere with high end food, snacks and drinks. The people who work here are the BEST!! An extra shout out to Quoya and Alex in the deli who are always so friendly, engaging, and helpful! They bring a spirit of true service to every interaction. Thank you Kuau store. My stay on the north shore would not be the same without you here.

Yelp
Love the store! Was welcomed when i came in and the aloha was definitely all around. There are so many healthy food choices and snacks ive never seen before. absolutely love the store and the workers!

Yelp
Still love this place. Been coming here at least once every few months in all my years of life and they don't disappoint. The food is just as yummy as I remember it. Their plate lunches are loaded and full of flavor but my favorite will always be the poke. So good! It's a great place to stop before cruising at Hookipa or heading out to Hana. Got some of their salsa, pohole salad, and I think it was BLT pasta salad. All was good except the pasta salad, I didn't care for. Mostly cause the pasta was a little stiffer than my liking. Oh my gosh, and had one of their massive pickles with my sandwich. Talk about a bomb combo! Their parking can get a little tricky if there's traffic but at least there's ample parking right in front of the establishment. I hope someone can help them fill in their gravel or asphalt cause there is a large dip where you can park. Not sure how that happened, but don't let that stop you from coming in. This place would have gotten five stars but the lady behind the deli counter was giving some serious attitude when we were ordering a bunch of different stuff but I mean, we were the only ones in there aside from a few people eating in the store. But all good, cause the cashier aunty was super funny. I'll still be coming in!
google avatar

Yelp
Great stop after the Twin Falls hike. Only 3 different Poké offered but trust that's all you'll need. They also had this pesto, chicken, bacon, avocado panini with Swiss cheese and a side salad : fern side salad. Both were absolutely delicious and filled our bellies after waterfall jumps/hiking. Not to mention the gal serving up Poké was super sweet! Only marked down as drinks are a bit over priced and cashier gal could be a tad nicer, perhaps it's a bad day so only took it down one star.

Yelp
COME HERE BEFORE YOU START ROAD TO HANA! the poke is super good and they have coffee and bottled drinks. Parking and seating is limited. We ate here in the morning and was filled until halfway to Hana.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
There was very fresh tuna at this store and they grudgingly agreed to give us some extra rice! Cute little shop but they don't have any bathrooms.
google avatar

Yelp
I fell in love with the spot. I would recommend it 1000x over to anyone. I would highly recommended the pulled pork breakfast burrito.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
They do sell out of the poke. Poke was good, perfect for a light lunch. It's a cute market with lots of different foods, desserts, sandwiches, and other helpful items! Has their own parking lot too. Service is very friendly!
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Da best for local and homemade eats, including their daily poke (spicy, furikake, and shoyu). The woman working behind the counter can develop a little more patience, especially with the tourists who were in front of me in line, but otherwise all good.

Yelp
My husband and I were going to hit a place we discovered in Makawao (not on the) way to Hana, when I figured I should check Yelp to see if there was anything that looked as good that was actually on the way, versus the literal opposite direction. The reviews for the Kuau Store spoke for themselves, and promises of some of the best poke made this a very easy decision for us. We luckily found parking out front, but definitely start looking prior to arriving at the store, as parking seems like it could be a bit tight. This place is amazing, and I'm just bummed we didn't dive in sooner to research what was out there in terms of Road to Hana options during trips prior. Everything you could want is in this adorable store - from chips, to sandwiches, to freshly made juices, to poke, to breakfast options, and kombucha - this place is for everyone. I ordered a spicy ahi poke bowl with brown rice, and then because I can't get enough, a separate order of furikake poke (shoyu, onions, sesame oil, etc.), which runs at $13.99/lb. and is unbelievably fresh and delicious. My husband ordered a breakfast sandwich (they make them to order!) as well as a sandwich for lunch (I honestly can't remember which one he ordered, but he raved about both of them - we're from NJ which is known for breakfast sandwiches, and he said this was one of the best he's ever had). We also grabbed some waters and snacks - with two orders of poke, two sandwiches, and waters, it came out to about $36. For the freshness of the fish, and the deliciousness of the sandwiches, this is more than a bargain, and took out some of the stress of finding a place on the Road to Hana/not knowing what would be open or closed. Kuau Store honestly made me wish that I had four stomachs - everything looked absolutely incredible, and I could have just taken a spoon to that amazing poke if it was socially acceptable. This is a must, and somewhere we will absolutely be returning to!

Yelp
Long line; WORTH the SHORT wait love the variety available in the entire store - from staples to coffee and a great deli - to a great selection of merchandise.

Yelp
This store is easy to miss if you are driving fast as it's on the main road. But I highly recommend stopping here before going to the beach. I missed it the first time driving by and so glad I turned around and came back. I stopped here twice. Plenty parking in front of the store and in the side. Given the busy main street, recommend parking on the side of the store. The poke, sandwiches, the latte, i had, omg everything was so good and tasty. Saw many locals stop by, which is a good sign in my books, usually a sign it's not a tourist trap. The deli items looked fresh & yummy. I even took food for the flight home. Why eat dry crap in boxes on the plane or airport food? When you can have yummy spicy poke on the plane!!! Everyone who worked there was kind & happy. They have everything you need. All the healthy options. And I found it much cheaper than other stores I stopped at. There's a picnic table outside & a pub height table inside, if you want to eat there before hitting the road again. Highly recommended. I was very happy I found it.

Yelp
I stopped by here this past Tuesday afternoon with my wife for lunch. We had driven past the Kuau Store multiple times on our trip to Maui and every time we drove past it there was multiple cars in the parking lot and so I figured that it had to be good. So on this Tuesday we made it a point to visit. The inside is what you would expect of a general store with groceries, produce and alcohol. In addition to that they have a hot foods area and then some baked goods and make coffee as well. Since we were here for lunch, it was the hot foods area that interested me. After perusing the menu I ultimately decided to go with a mixed plate plate lunch which came with the shoyu chicken and smoked pulled pork. The lady working the area was super nice and asked me if I wanted BBQ sauce on the pork which I did. My wife ended up ordering a poke bowl and then we got a 1/2 pound of the lilikoi kale salad to split as well. While we were waiting for the salad I also happened to spot a lilikoi and blueberry scone which we added to our takeaway as well. As soon as we got to the car I tried the scone. It was a good scone and I loved the lilikoi drizzle on the top and the number of blueberries in the middle. Once we got back to our condo I was able to try the rest and all of it was good. I started with the plate lunch and man was it a ton of food! The shoyu chicken was juicy and fell off the bone while the smoked pork really had a strong pork flavor and I appreciated the BBQ sauce on it. My Mac salad and rice were nice additions as well but weren't my favorite part of lunch. While I was eating this my wife was eating her poke and said that she loved it. Last but not least we split the kale salad which may have been the star of the meal not only because it was delicious but it felt super healthy as well. It consisted of kale with macadamia nuts, mango, goji berries, and a lilikoi dressing. The goji berries and mango gave the salad some sweetness while the lilikoi dressing gave it some wetness and sharpness and finally the Mac nuts gave it some texture. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I loved everything that we ordered, especially that lilikoi kale salad.

Yelp
Great Poke and general stuff. Walking distance from beach by Mama's Fish House. Fresh fruit, cookies, sandwiches, beer, wine!!
google avatar

Jason A.

Yelp
This was one of the best stops we made to and from Hana. We were planning on going to Mama's Fish House like everyone else under the sun, but they were rude and off-putting from the first interaction. The Kuau Store was very welcoming, had friendly employees and tons of healthy and fresh options. Sadly I didn't take a pic of the three poke options, but I loved them. I also got the pork/chicken mix plate with mac and rice pictured, so good. Thank you guys for making the day great.

Yelp
It's a really cute little convenience food store, right on the Hana Highway, but parking can be a little awkward, as you sometimes have to back out onto the highway. They carry a lot of nice things, including organic and gluten-free options and locally made items. They have a wonderful deli offering fresh made poke, salads, sandwiches and plate lunches to go. Prices are high, but you get good service and a nice variety of top quality items. They also offer branded merchandise. It's pretty much the last food stop before you get to the Jaws Country Store in Haiku, if you're driving out towards Hana.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic little store. Amazing food and terrific atmosphere. Our Road to Hana guide (Kai from PrimoVip -high recommend) stopped here first thing before we embarked on our journey. We picked up breakfast and great coffee. The food was fresh and it was a great selection of local ingredients and options. Honestly we could have spent 10x more money buying up all the local sandwiches and fruits/vegetables. It all looked so appealing and fresh. Our party got an assortment of breakfast sandwiches and parfaits. This was a perfect little stop before our long drive down to Hana. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to stop here again on our next trip!
google avatar

Yelp
Quyoa had on point service when I got my coffee this morning. All the cashiers are THE BOMB. So friendly. So kind. Consistently. The merchandise is top notch. I go here a couple times a day typically, after a long day of work and before I start my morning. For snacks, coffee and smiles. So appreciate. Mahalo!!

Yelp
What wonderful mini mart on our way to Hana. They have delicious food, drinks, smoothies and lunch. We stopped here for breakfast & lunch. Everything was super fresh and delicious. They have many organic products and other high end beverages, snacks, and food. Prices were not bad at all. Will definitely visit again if in Maui. The staff was super friendly too.

Yelp
This little local poke store in Paia is the best on Maui. The poke are fresh and of exceptional value. It is about 30% less than the other one we went in the Kaanapali area. Taste was great too. Perfect for a lunch stop on your way to visit that side of the island.
google avatar

Anelise P.

Yelp
Yummy food, great snacks for beach day! Always hope to go when Quoya is working as she has amazing customer service & makes the best vanilla lattes!!

Yelp
It was the ultimate stop before or after a day's adventures. They had outstanding snacks ready to go - from kombucha, chia seed bowls, veggies and dip, fresh cut fruit, hummus, fresh mason jar juice to cookies, fresh made poke, smoothies, or sandwiches. The staff was extraordinarily friendly. They helped me fuel pre-hike and they recommended and made us sandwiches to take with us to the airport for the long 5.5 hour flight to the mainland. It's a happy place with options for everyone - everything from booze and desserts to healthy snacks and meals to go. It truly has the ALOHA Spirit.

Yelp
Made a pit stop at Kuau Store before our road trip to Hana. Located just right along Hana HWY, in the picturesque town of Paia. This grocery store might be small but they have great selection with excellent qualities and prices. We stocked up on water, coffee and food needed for our trip. I got a bowl of their spicy ahi poke ($11), it was delicious and nutrients packed poke bowl to kick-off the day in a good mood. Tips: they open at 6:30 am & no restroom on site.

Yelp
Last minute stop on our way home from a day at Twin Falls. We were not disappointed. While we initially stopped to admire all the classic boards that lined the parking lot outside. We decided to go inside the store, sure glad we did. We stocked up on some amazing local snacks as well as coffee. Everything we had was flavorful and priced right. The staff was warm and welcoming. We will definitely be back when we return to the island.

Yelp
We stayed just about a block from this store. It has nearly everything you need for your stay or your trip to Hana. For a small place, it is well thought out, is organized, friendly, and even have a table inside and tables outside if you want to hang out. We tried their mixed plate lunch with kahlua pork and BBQ chicken, two scoops of rice (choice of brown or white) and a 1/2 pint container of their fiddle head fern salad. Fiddlehead fern salad is a Hawaii specialty. The Kuau Store version consists of young fiddlehead fern shoots and tender stalks, thin sliced onion, and tomato chunks in a light vinaigrette. I have hear of it, but being about to try it is a real treat. It's light crunchy and delicious. Give it a try! Their other prepared salads also looked very good. The plate lunch cost about $10 and was enough for two meals. The pork and chicken were both good and the convenience of having a place like this near our rental was a boon. Those who stay in the area know what traffic is like around Paia. Not having to deal with Paia traffic and parking to get dinner was so nice. The Kuau Store also has a good sized section of wine and beer. They also make their own poke and tend to carry at least three kinds (shoyu, spicy mayo, and furikake). For those looking to get lunch to go, they make fine sandwiches and have plenty of snacks. On our way to the airport for our early morning flight, we were able to pick up breakfast and lunch sandwiches to go for the flight. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were so glad they open at 6:30 am!

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place after the beach. Best poke we had on the island! I would definitely go back
