Kuka Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge

Great service, good choices, decent prices…lets down at times by the food. Haddock was dry, veggie bowl was a bit tasteless, and other dishes were fine, but not great. Our daughter really didn’t like the olives, although our son loved the prawns. Dessert - the chocolate option was good, but carrot cake was dry. Our son liked his banana waffle! Service was attentive at all times.

During my recent stay, I had breakfast at the restaurant affiliated with my hotel. Overall, it was a pleasant experience with a few surprising limitations. The food itself was delicious — freshly prepared, with a good variety of hot and cold options. The quality and taste exceeded my expectations for a standard hotel breakfast. The setting was also comfortable and well-maintained, making it a relaxing place to start the day. However, a couple of policies took away from an otherwise enjoyable experience. Surprisingly, water was not included in the breakfast offering. Even more unexpected was the limitation of only one cup of coffee ,any additional coffee came at an extra charge. This felt quite unusual for a breakfast service linked to a hotel stay, where unlimited water and coffee are typically standard. While the food quality makes it worth a visit, these small but significant restrictions may leave guests feeling a bit short-changed. A simple revision of these policies could go a long way in enhancing the overall guest experience.

We had a great lunch at Kuka Café in Hazyview. It’s located right at the corner of the R40 and R536, in a little complex with other restaurants and shops that seem to be part of the same group. There’s plenty of parking, and while we were eating, someone hand-washed our car for a very reasonable price – and they did a great job too. The food was fresh and tasty, with a nice selection of dishes featuring fish and rice. What really stood out was the gluten-free options – even the pizzas! That’s quite rare to find in South Africa and made a big difference for our family. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was relaxed but efficient. There’s seating both inside and outside. We chose the terrace, which has plenty of shade. The only small downside is the traffic noise from the nearby road, especially when loud cars pass by, but it didn’t ruin the experience. All in all, definitely worth a visit if you're gluten free.

Waitress was super lovely. Chilli poppers came without cream cheese - I asked for them to just bring me cream cheese to add in myself (they happily did) I think the cream cheese leaks out because they cut the stalks off :) We had the carb clever burger - tell them how you would like your burger done, otherwise it comes well done. It was really tasty and more filling than you would think.

Unfortunately this was a disappointing experience, let me explain. My child’s food had hair in it, when we addressed this with the manager she just lifted with her bear hands. As someone who has extreme alleges I was not comfortable with anyone just touching my child’s food and with their bear hands. Then there was my partners food, the prawns were overdone and the food was just tasteless and lacked character. The service was unfortunately well below par drinks took forever to come, we asked for condiments and they took forever to come. The only saving grace was the uniqueness and deliciousness of these condiments. Then there was the whole incorrect billing issue and the she lack of disregard by the waiter. In total I think the restaurant establishment has got good and relaxed vibes however there is room for improvements on the food and more importantly the service.

Great stop on the travel map! We had a great experience. They prepared a 300g Rump steak and chips to perfection and the dish was as lovely a feast to the eyes as it tasted. We also enjoyed a Cheddermelt Burger with mushroom sauce - a must! Their chicken salad was beautifully presented and tasted out of this world. Our drinks were served really quickly, even though the restaurant was quite busy. The service was timeous and the waiters were friendly and helpful. Thank you for a good experience Kuka!

Tasty food. Great service. Lovely environment.

We chose to stop over at Kuka for a quick light lunch. It was quiet but still had a nice chilled vibe. We ordered a Margareta pizza, smoked chicken wrap, spiced banana waffle and a Choc nut sundae. Simple dishes but made very well. The food was delicious and disappeared within minutes. The service was quick and efficient and very pleasant. Will definitely go back during our next visit.
