I've been to Maui countless times over the years, and I've always wanted to visit Kula Lodge located on the slopes of Haleakala. This year, we made it happen. The drive to the restaurant along curvy roads and tall, shady trees was enchanting.
I'd heard the views from the restaurant were spectacular, and the unique outdoor canvas-covered "gazebos" added to its charm. Our party of four chose to eat under one of the outdoor gazebos.
We ordered four morning cocktails: a Bloody Mary, $12, 2 Maui Mosas, $18, and a Kona Longboard, $9. Our entrees were the Upcountry Quiche, $27, Roasted Kabocha Squash, $28, Mochiko Chicken & Waffles, $30, and the Garlic Prawn Pizza, $30.
While we waited for our food, we took the time to wander the beautiful botanical garden grounds and pathways.
When our food did arrive, there was only one glitch. Instead of the Garlic Prawn Pizza, we received a different shrimp entree, which looked fantastic...but it wasn't what we ordered. They apologized and went to prepare the pizza. The food was delicious, and portions were big, so we definitely had leftovers.
Overall, I am so glad we finally made it to Kula Lodge. Unfortunately, just 3 weeks after our visit, Kula Lodge suffered from a restaurant fire. I am absolutely positive they will re-open again.
In the meantime, come support their Kula Marketplace, which is a wonderful gift shop, adjacent to the restaurant, and untouched by the fire. They need your support!!!
I will definitely return!
