We are a wonderful lunch here during a Viking cruise down the Rhine. The salad was among the best I have ever had, and the chicken with mushrooms was outstanding! Great family style tables where we were able to sit with a large group from our ship. The wait staff was attentive, and the whole experience very rewarding. (My wife calls this the best meal we had during our 2 weeks in Europe!) Highly recommended.

We arrived yesterday after 21:00 and a waitress kindly took us to the table after acknowledging we were 11 people. Once she came back in and spoke to someone else, they decided they had no time to serve us and invented the rule that the kitchen closes at 21:00 (the closing times online are listed as 21:30 and clearly the first person did not know this rule...). Clearly someone did not want to have the minimum chance of going home a little bit later...

The Viennese schnitzel was fantastic. I recommend it. The Wurst felt homemade and fresh. The prices are correct. From three main courses, a beer, some bottled water and cola we payed 81 euro.

I visited this place for the first time in December 2024. It was a 4 star experience. Good food, good house beer, good service. But then I came back in May 2025. My experience was totally different. The food was mediocre, and the beer (what happened?) was terrible. Above all, the person who served my table was NOT polite — and that's what annoyed me the most. Why not polite? Two examples: 1) Impatience while we were deciding what to order. 2) Impatience when we were paying. We had to split the account, so a little math was necessary. Even worse, there was a problem with a credit card, and we had to use other card. And the staff member looking at us, showing a HUGE discomfort, a bad face. The staff member said: "I have other tables to attend." Oh, great, so polite! It's a business. If we had to make more math, or try other cards, it would be their obligation to keep a nice attitude in favor of clients.

An amazing traditional German restaurant! The environment is really nice and the interior is beautiful with high ceilings, great lighting and nice paintings. The food is very delicious and not too pricey for a nice dinner night out. Highly recommend during your stay in Heidelberg! Reservations recommended!

Google
Review is for restaurant only: beautiful old interior in the restaurant (see ceiling) and remarkably tasty food despite so many people being served at the same time.

Google
Great German restaurant. Large menu with lots of German delicacies. Service was warm and attentive. Quality of the food was good. Lively atmosphere.

Google
Nice German restaurant. The food was good,I tried the duck, and the beer they brew in-house was excellent.

Yelp
One of the better meals had on a recent trip the Germany. The food was fresh and well prepared, the ambiance amazing and the local wine was delicious. Staff was on top of meeting a large groups needs and overall the experience gets 5/5, will return.

Yelp
Kulturbrauerei was a beautiful experience! We were looking for a nice outdoor dining experience and had been impressed with the Biergartens that we visited in Berlin, so we searched Yelp for a Biergarten in Heidelberg. This one had great reviews and high marks, so we gave it a try. The setting was in Old Town, close to the river and the Old Bridge. The entry was on a narrow, cobblestone street. From the first interaction with the host to the final bite and payment of our tab, everything was great. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, both in helping since we didn't speak the language, to making fantastic recommendations for beverages and food options. I wanted a traditional Bavarian meal, so I chose the pork knuckle with potatoes and a cabbage salad. It was delicious! Crispy, meaty, and starchy, all paired with a fantastic helles beer! So good. Given the ambiance and level of service, we expected it to be a bit more expensive than some places, but it was worth the slightly higher cost to have such a grand experience!

Yelp

Yelp
Everything about this place was amazing. The ambiance alone was stunning. The service-amazing. The food? Delicious. We also stayed at the hotel connected but next door so it was wonderful to experience the entire vibe. I grew up in Heidelberg and hadn't been back for years so this place, in the heart of downtown, ticked off all of my boxes of "Why I love Heidelberg." I had the Wiener Schnitzel with frites and salad. My husband had the Sauerbraten with red cabbage and spatzle. Everything was absolutely delicious and this is one place I'd recommend to try for sure.

Raymond S.

Yelp
Drinks only in one of Germany's finest small cities. The red beer was tremendous as was the pils. The food looked great but we had to many in our party for a reservation-next time.

Barb F.

Yelp
Cab driver picked us up from the Marriott. We were planning to go somewhere else and he said NO you go here instead. This was the best meal we had in Heidelberg. Wiener schnitzel was the object of dreams. Beer was great, wine was good. The starter with bread, what is up with that cheese? Yum. Pork dish, beef with onions, spaetzle were amazing. Salad was delicious, unexpectedly. Wonderful. Loved it. Too full for dessert

H B.

Yelp
Excellent experience. Lovely antique building. Long wooden tables and a fine selection of bier and wine 3 homemade bier. Hopps / wheat (fav) / seasonal which was a summer Pilsner Starter is a super cool wooden carving board with meats cheese pate wursts pickles radishes and tartare bread pretzel and stone rye( fav ) Dinner schnitzel was fine We we're with 70 pp so frying was different from plate to plate. But spatzel noodles delicious and not doughy and clean veggies as gravy to top really brought meal together. Dessert strawberries and ice cream. Fine just fine. Could skip Fantastic Cappuccino!!!!

Johnny L.

Yelp
I like this place , grab a table with a dozen new German friends and enjoy a pig knuckle or schnitzel . Local Heidelberg beer as well , friendly and an easy walk from just about anywhere near the HBF

Valerie K.

Yelp
Food was really good here, but a few of our orders were mixed up and I had asked for a juice about 2-3 times before I received it. Also, none of the staff seemed to speak or want to speak English for that matter despite several English speaking patrons at the restaurant. One of the servers actually said he did not like speaking English. I had received some type of pork cutlet when I ordered a fish entree. We were there for probably over an hour, most of which was spent waiting for for. Again, the food was good, but the service could have been better. They also included an 18% gratuity, which was really frustrating considering all the mix-ups on orders.

Rhonda W.

Yelp
We came here as a part of our Globus tour and anytime you come with a big group it's less likely you'll have an amazing food experience. The place was cute and the servers did a good job considering the size of our group. We had some beers and the food was ...ok. The best part was the dessert and the beer but in all fairness not a fan of this style food .. Germany was gorgeous but the food was a struggle for me.

Yelp
Beer - 10 Staff - 10 Food - 10 Atmosphere - 10 I wish I could give more stars, because they would get them.... The sausages are incredible, but the beer is Amazing. It probably has to be the Best beer in ALL of Germany... Yes, that is bold, but they have earned it... The sausages are the best in Germany too!!! I make homemade sausage and this was a teat to have someone make it better... I look forward to coming back tomorrow and next day.... Thank You

Marilyn M.

Yelp
great food and great service. The time I visit was just the moon, not so noisy or crowded, and you can quietly taste the food. Btw, nice beer!

Jenna L.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here for a bite and some drinks on a Saturday afternoon in September. We sat outside at a big table and no one else joined us.. Although we would have welcomed others. We were pleasantly surprised that we were the only English speakers outside in the biergarten at the time of our visit. It seems from the other Yelp reviews that lots of travelers and Americans also enjoy this spot but from our visit I can attest to the fact that locals have not been scared away. We tried all three of the beers they had on tap and took a liter of the hefeweizen to go. It doesn't have preservatives so we will have to drink it while we are still here in Germany as the waitress didn't recommend flying home with it. They say to keep it refrigerated until you are ready to drink it or it could spoil. We also had a sausage and pretzel. The sausage was super fresh and bright tasting. The pretzels crunchy on the outside and warm and chewy on the inside. It was lovely. ALL the food coming by our table looked amazing. I wish we were more hungry at the time of our visit. We would loved to have eaten more. The service wasn't fast per se but we really were given the chance to sit and enjoy. And i wouldn't call it slow either. They were attentive however no one was rushing. It was a nice vacation pace.

Yelp
I didn't have the pleasure of trying the food at this establishment so my rating is a BEER quality rating. The variety in f beers is very good and they brew it themselves on site, you can drink in or take away in 1l and 2l mottled which they fill fresh. It is not cheap 6-7 euro / 0,5l but it is worth every cent. We tried most of their repertoire and my personal favourite was their weitzen. The decoration of the bar area is very inviting and at the bar they have beautiful exposed and polished cooper pipping.

Carol K.

Yelp
A bit touristy, but the master brewer does a great job in describing how he produces three kinds of beer for this local brewery. None of the product is exported, but is served in the restaurant/hotel attached. When you have finished tasting the beer, you can have a prix fixe lunch in the restaurant. There were a choice of three entrees on the day that we were there- bratwurst, roast pork loin and a fried feta vegetarian option. Served with red cabbage, sauerkraut, and potatoes, these portions are enough to last you all day. The three course meal also includes a salad first course and strawberries and ice cream for dessert all for $29 Euro. And don't forget to order one of the beers that you tasted to go along with your lunch. The space is huge with seating for at least 200 people and easily 30 foot ceilings as this is located inside a historic building. There are also murals painted on the walls that depict the town of Heidelberg. There is also a lovely beer garden out back that would be my first choice to sit although it is where all the smokers congregate. Service had a bit of an attitude about the use of credit cards but know that they take them (Mastercard and Visa only). Not my favorite place to eat in Heidelberg, but certainly an A-OK option.

Barth V.

Yelp
With three beers on their own menu it might seem thin, but the weizen I had was great! Not too bitter, not too sweet. I did not plan on eating here as well but since I was alone I decided to have the wildbeast sausage (only served in the winter) with red kale and mashed potato's. I dared to order a red wine (tempranillo) with it and had a blast. The service was great too (but I was early 1745 o'cock). I would highly recommend to go here, early alone and later with loads of friends - since they srve on typical stretched 'bierfest' tables. Long live Heidelberg! Lets hope Too many tourists stay away

Yelp
Great place for authentic German fare Ambience: traditional bar with beer garden. Good place for dinner with friends. Service: Not overly fast & could do with a couple more servers who were a little over stressed. Food: Excellent. I had the crispy suckling pig (seasonal) which was without a doubt the best thing I've ever had in many trips to Germany. It (like most other mains) came with a great potato salad and a coleslaw type salad. Plenty of food for anyone. I'm not a beer drinker but my friends were and they raved about the brews on offer. Price: Good value for the good quality I would definitely come here again if back in Heidelberg.

Glenn S.

Yelp
Where to start? The ox Back was mouthwatering, beets made to perfection. This brewery/restaurant is a must, authentic Germany high octane beer. All in view of one of the most famous castles in Heidelberg!!

John W.

Yelp
The beer is excellent in a nice beer hall. The food was average German fare. The downside were the tour groups or massive crowds that were funneled into the place. As a result the service went downhill when 50+ people showed up at once. Go to the Roter Ochsen around the corner for an authentic traditional German atmosphere.

Matyas S.

Yelp
This was 5* german cousine experience. Had beef roast with dark gravy, red cabbage and egg spetzle with large weisen beer which i believe they brew in house. The food was excelent, beer as well and the restaurant decor was spot on as well! Recommended if you find yourself nearby and crave dome german treat.. :)

Gerald P.

Yelp
I'll can give them a five star rating. Place was very crowdy, but this is normal for Heidelberg which is a touristy spot anyway. We had a wheat beer, a lager and the speciality beer combined with some really nice tasting german-brewery-style food. My better half had grilled sausages with kraut and I had Kohlroulade (please translate it yourself :-) ) and meshed potato's. Lovely. Service was fast and very responsive. When you're in town - check it out!

Roger Q.

Yelp
A fun local haunt. Sauerbraten, weiner schnitzel and local craft beer are the specialties. Try the meat and cheese appetizer. It was quite good.

Frank L C.

Yelp
Maybe it was the comany I had it with, but this was a great meal. Starting with a couple of local beers, we moved on to the house specials, such as "Heben und Erd," blood pudding and veal sausage with apple slices, or venison roast or stew. All the flavors were deliciously strong, the meats tender, the sauces savory. The red cabbage and mashed potatoes were good accompaniments. And the service was excellent--the waitress managed to remember 28 orders not only long enough to deliver them but to charge each person individually later--without paper!

Dieter M.

Yelp
The beer garden in the back is where you want to sit on a hot summers day. Make sure you order a gross Dunkel and the schnitzel and Weißwurst and your day will be amazing like mine was today. The staff speaks perfect English and is very patient to visiting American Tourist. Inside the restaurant reminds me of an old German Beerhall from the 1600's ... enjoyed this place

Tyler L.

Yelp
Even though the brewery is new by Heidelberg standards, you can't really tell this is not a long running beer hall that electoral princes of old visited. It definitely has the atmosphere of the older establishments in Heidelberg and with its 3 large rooms, it has far more room and is easier to get a seat than almost anywhere else in town. The service was decent. The waiter got a little surly when we asked for an english menu for one of our fellow travelers but lightened up a bit later on. We were served pretty quickly and our big beers came right away. The beer was very good and they had a decent variety of the house brew on tap from unfiltered wheat beer to seasonal bock. Very tasty and went well with the heavy meat. I tried the pork knuckle. I got a giant plate with what seemed to be half a pig on it covered in delicious crispy skin. I also got healthy sides of mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Both were very good and helped to soak up the gravy as well as break up the heaviness of the pork. It was super filling, but very well cooked. The rest of the menu was a selection of traditional German dishes, mostly involving big hunks of meat. The food was good, but the beer was the standout for me, which is good for a beer hall. I would definitely recommend it for large groups or any gathering where you want to sit and drink good beer for a while.

Natalie G.

Yelp
If you want to try Schnitzel for the first time, this is the place. Pretty darn close to our Omi's (grandmother's). Absolutely delicious, good beer, and if they offer warm plums and ice cream, try that too. Surprisingly exceptional. Great time!

Charles C.

Yelp
We absolutely loved this place. A little hard to find, down a side street from the main walking strip. The beer was my favorite during the entire trip. I'm a hefeweizen snob, but this place has the best I've tasted. Ever. You might have a different opinion than me, but the Bavarian yeast clove notes and the balance of a mild carbonation made me smile each sip. The interior of the building is amazing and I am curious to see what the attached hotel is like. We are actually making plans to return and this place is on our list. The staff was very friendly and tried to help us with our odd request of adding cheese spaetzle to our dish. Yes, I'm weird and must try everyone's cheese spaetzle. There's a nice patio area to sit in, but it was a little too cold out for us to give it a shot. The dining hall is large and there are two other areas to eat your meal inside, not including the bar. I took home a really nice .5L mug and wish I grabbed a growler for the hotel before we drove away. Heidelberg is an amazing town and we want to see more of it, but I'm definitely coming back here!

Ashley H.

Yelp
Great beer and food at this old brewery. The inside of the restaurant is so beautiful. The service was good and they spoke English well. Would definitely come back here for the schnitzel again! This is a must visit if you are in Heidelberg.

Joe M.

Yelp
This is the best place in Heidelberg to get food and beers. They have an amazing Pork knuckle on the menu and the atmosphere is setup like a small beer hall. Remember to make a reservation if you want to sit in the beer hall. It's worth it!!

Wyatt S.

Yelp
Food was good authentic German food. Great atmosphere. Be sure to make reservations for large groups.

Qype User (partne…)

Yelp
Perfect place for a good german beer and food. Prost!

Tim A.

Yelp
This place had amazing beer. The seasonal beer was also very good. The food was fresh and tasted great. Would definitely go back here again.

Mariele M.

Yelp
Very nice place in Heidelberg downtown, good beer and good food. Busy atmosphere like in a rhenanian Brauhaus.

Claudia R.

Yelp
The service was really bad. We went there with a big group, they didm't arranged the table as requested, we had to pick one meal out of five, so everybody had to eat the same, reservation process is complicated. Not recommended for bigger groups. The food itself was good.

Kat.D C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The service was helpful and friendly. The beer was very very good. We all ordered one of the nightly specials. The food was very tasty and filling. We stayed for at least 2 hours just enjoying the beer and conversation.

Dana P.

Yelp
We stayed here 10 years ago and decided to return this year for our 35th wedding anniversary trip. We had a room in an annex to the original hotel - no elevator. The room was very comfy, but as Americans we struggled with the lack of control over the room temperature when it stays warm at night. Nevertheless we will certainly return for the comfort, location, breakfast and, most importantly, the house made beer.
