"Created by designer and former fashion technology professor Anna Kahalekulu, this sustainable clothing line combines high design with Hawaiian traditions and values. The brand, named after an old moniker for the island of Maui, ranges from keiki (children’s) clothing to womenswear to home decor, all made from leftover, vintage, or eco-friendly fabrics. Stop by the Makawao studio to shop wrap tops and soft, flowy dresses in hues that evoke tropical flowers. Also available here are scarves and pillow covers printed with watercolors of shells, stones, and phases of the moon by local artists, as well as brightly colored shorts for little ones."
A lovely shop, as well as the brand's atelier! So cool to see the bolts of fabric, cutting table, and garments in progress. I got to chat with the owner, who told me about their prints, as well as the alterations and customization services they offer. Came away with some new favorites in their lovely modal knit fabric - perfectly lightweight without being transparent or clingy. Beautiful drape, and so soft :)

Kūlua is a lovely shop that aims to be environmentally friendly while producing creative designs. I ordered my sister a few gifts from here online (which was easy thru their website) and Anna (owner and designer) went above and beyond in answering my questions via email. I highly recommend and will definitely order again from this lovely Kanaka (Native Hawaiian) owned shop. Thank you, Anna!
