A must-visit destination for art lovers, featuring a diverse collection of Japanese and international artworks. Located near Kumamoto Castle, the museum showcases traditional and contemporary pieces, making it an essential cultural spot in the city.

A bit of a mixed bag. You pay based on which exhibits you wish to see, which is fair. I saw 2/3 of the exhibits currently on display. The one in the main building contained lots of impressive art and artifacts, but the exhibit in the annex was very small, not overly impressive, and not really worth being its own collection.

There are two separate buildings. One is very small and only has one room and a hallway that I was very disappointed in. It cost 700 yen per person and took maybe 10 minutes to see the entire collection. On the other hand, the main building is rather large and had a cafe in it. We paid 240 yen each to see a huge collection of art which was very worth it. There is also a much smaller selection of art that can be seen for free. There is very limited English throughout (basically just the titles of the pieces) that could affect your enjoyment if you don't know the context behind many of the displays. There were also three different collections of art each of which you had to pay a separate price to see so keep that in mind as well.
