Excellent service from Sovia, had some miscommunication on dietary requirement but she sorted out quickly. Very lovely girl and made our stay very enjoyable. We love this place, wished we had stayed 1 more night to truly enjoy the peace and tranquility this place has to offer. Of coz The Free flow beer of wine sake and many more helps! (even during breakfast!)

Great hotel. Dinner was phenomenal and breakfast was wonderful. They also have an all you can drink bar and you can grill your own fish(tasty).

Pros: Room is spacious; Dinner is very delicious and all sourced locally, plus just the right portion; Onsen is really nice; The resort is quite large and has a lot to offer, there are also crafts workshops for guests to reserve, but I didn’t get a chance to try myself. Cons: The location is slightly remote from town and can be a challenge for guests without a car and try to get to places after checking in; Also since the resort is large, it takes time get to places (like from ur room to front desk), the resort offers internal shuttle services and can be arranged whenever called, but still can be a bit of trouble for international guests who don’t speak Japanese.

Beautiful cottage & hot springs style stay in the famous Kumano mountains - wonderfully stylish rooms & high-quality eateries on site, but vegans and vegetarians need to order in advance as most usual offerings are meat, fish and fish stock only dishes. All-inclusive plans are unusual in Japan but nice not to have to carry money & pay individually at hot-springs & eateries around compound. Beds & linens good, but towels a bit thin & single-use plastic amenities still in use although signs of changing to be more sustainable. Very little English information, menus or signage. Nice & quiet with great mountain views & nice star viewing at night.

Enjoyed a stay in one of the standard rooms but had opportunity to see o e of the smaller Villa types. Rooms were well appointed and beds comfortable. The standard room has a balcony looking over mountains opposite. Aside from the two twin beds, the room had an ample tatami seating area, making it feel more like a suite. Warm wood tones made for a relaxing environment. Bathtub was a large and deep step in type in the local style. Toilet and sink areas in the room cluster around the bath area in separate spaces. The food was delicious, drawing on local ingredients and specialities and the staff very attentive and kind. The onsen was spacious and clean with indoor and outdoor baths - most outdoor. Only slightly awkward aspect of the property is its overall layout with separate buildings for check in and check out which don't clearly indicate what should be done where. This is somewhat mitigated by a bus system around the resort. While we had specific reasons for staying at the resort, holiday makers without a car may find the location a bit awkward. The property does offer shuttle service to the local town/ station at set times so do enquire about this if it will facilitate your stay. If you have a rental car, parking is ample and free. Overall though I enjoyed my stay there and would happily stay there again.

The Kumano Club is a luxury ryokan located on a hot springs about 5 miles from the ocean in the southwest of Honshu, Japan. Two of the rooms have a distant view of the ocean, and the other rooms have very peaceful mountain views. Our rooms was incredibly spacious, with a large two-person wooden tub on the deck, and a separate living area and bedroom, plus a small equipped kitchen. The dining area felt especially Japanese, with many private rooms, and the food was absolutely excellent; dinner is always an extraordinary 12-course meal. Some of the staff spoke a little English, and everyone worked very hard to provide outstanding service. There’s a spa with a large indoor and outdoor pool for soaking (men and women separated), plus massages and other spa services are available. No other westerners were around, and we felt like we had a unique experience of vacationing in a Japanese resort. We also loved the hiking and ancient shrines around Kumano.

We arrived close to 6pm in the dark and could not find the road up to the hotel - only the car park. Walking across the bridge and through the dimly lit garden, we arrived at the lobby only to realize that an email had been sent to ask us that afternoon to call from the carpark for the hotel shuttle. As we were on the road and did not have access to email, we were unable to read it, so it would have been better if the email had been sent ahead of time. |However, once we had checked in, the room was very large and comfortable. The onsen was large but the water is not the best. Dinner was delicious but it would have been better if they were able to explain the dishes in English. All in all, it was a comfortable Japanese experience.
