Kumarakom Lake Resort, Kottayam, Kerala, India - Explore & Book

"When the serene, blue-green beauty of Kerala’s ‘backwaters’ began to attract Western travellers a decade or so ago, a rash of new resorts sprang up in the south exploiting the successful ‘wooden-cottage-in-palm-grove’ formula. But this addition on the quieter shores of Lake Vembanad is a cut above the rest. You feel it immediately on entering the spacious, open-sided reception foyer, where uniformed staff greet you with a smile. Look around and you'll see a carefully-tended patchwork of ‘lotus’ canals lined by palm trees and red-tiled, wood-walled bungalows - 50 of them in all, though you would never guess. Head away from the cottages and you reach the infinity pool, whose invisible lip makes you feel as if you are swimming in Lake Vembanad itself. Although there is a slightly ‘resorty’ feel, the attention to aesthetics and quality make you feel cosseted and privileged. Rice boats, fishing trips and farm visits are also available, but chances are you won’t want to leave the resort. Highs The careful architectural mix of old and new has been very tastefully doneBanquet-style meals are served each nightThe open-sided reception and dining areas are spacious and airyThere's a gorgeous play of colours - blues and greens reflected in silvery waters, with all turning yellow at sunset Lows This is not an exclusive retreat - there are about 50 cottages spread over 10 acres, making it sociable rather than crowdedIt does still feel new, the cottages more so than the grounds It’s expensive by Keralan standards" - Yasmin Boland

Kumarakom Lake Resort (Kumarakom, Kerala) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Along the coastal lowlands and backwaters of India’s south-western state of Kerala lies the vast Vembanad Lake, connected to the Arabian Sea by a network of canals, estuaries and rivers. And at the edge of Lake Vembanad is Kumarakom, a tiny town at the edge of a lagoon, crisscrossed by narrow waterways used for navigation and irrigation." - Tablet Hotels

Had a great time at the property. My sister got married at the property last year where we booked 25+ rooms and had guests come over from all parts of India. Everyone loved the property. Further before and after the marriage days we took our time to wind down as well in the quiet and peaceful surroundings with great views. Totally recommend for a good winding down time away from all the hustle bustle.

Dined at property's multi cuisine restaurant today. While I had high expectations from a 5-star establishment, I was quite disappointed with the food.It appeared and later confirmed to be frozen, which significantly affected the texture and taste. Additionally, crab soup hardly had any crab flavour and tasted more like rasam.food was nothing like one would typically expect from a fine dining experience.Chef was kind enough to listen to our feed back personally and we were offered complementary juice and dessert. But we wasted around 4.8k and we still regret it.

Such a beautiful hotel, thank you so much for your hospitality. The beautiful rooms, meandering pool, outdoor shower , and amazing food were the highlights. There was also so much to do with the sunset cruise, dance show, clay pottery making, and fishing. Thank you so much to Johnny for organising the cake and all your hospitality. Thanks also to Kavi for your amazing photography skills, especially near the infinity pool. Also to Jewel, Sajesh and the general manager.

I just want to thank Mr Rahul Nair for the wonderful experience my family had at Kumarkom Lake Resort because of his warm hospitality and genuinely friendly nature which made visit truly memorable. Moreover he was the only one well known with the Hindi language which made communication easy for us to be there.

Perfect location for a relaxing stay by the Kerala backwaters. The staff here make this place what it is, with pitch perfect attention to detail and service. I had asked Gloria at reception where I could find a particular local dish (kappa biryani), a speciality of local toddy drinking establishments and the chef called me the next day saying that he would make it for us. The food was top. The rooms and grounds are pristine. My only critical feedback would be that they review their drinks offering to cater a bit better for contemporary drinks trends. But overall, a near world class resort.

It is a great resort, overall 5* rating. A few negatives... We stayed in the boat house. The initial reaction on arrival was - wow!! However, overall, experience-wise things took a slightly different turn. Here are a few areas that the management can consider improving: - getting in and out of the boat was a big challenge - lack of proper foot hold or hand railing for support was a big concern. One wrong move, and you are in the water. - the boat was docked (really??) in such a way that you literally had to walk on the edge of the boat's bow and use the windows to support your body weight to get off. - the next morning posed another challenge, and after complaining, the boat personnel decided to put a steel ramp, unfortunately a slippery one, which led to a fall and bruises. I wouldn't recommend this for the elderly. 40K/night isn't cheap - although the food was freshly prepared but not to the expectations and extremely limited choice, and they weren't accommodating any requests - language barrier was another challenge. Communicating with the captain and the cooks wasn't easy - the bathroom shower had no water pressure, and it was a struggle completely a bath Appreciate if the above can be addressed for future customers. I would highly recommend the morning breakfast at the resort, it was was fabulous with a big spread. Full points to the resort's dining team.

Honestly this hotel is the best hotel I have been to in Kerala. While i was in Kerala, I tried different hotels and this is the best of them all. The guest were so nice, the food EXTRA fresh , and their spa is so professional and good.
