Great food with reasonably priced set meals. Do expect a more-than-usual number of tourists since the restaurant is featured in many guides. I had the black-pork tonkatsu which was very tasty - crispy on the outside but succulent within.

Definitely book ahead at this place as they don't take walk-ins, but the reservation process is a breeze. Caught in the rain and running late, I was relieved they accommodated my last-minute rescheduling. The meal? Absolutely no regrets. Opted for the lunch set - grilled beef, kibihago sashimi, and satsuma-age - and each dish was a knockout. It was all so delicious, I devoured it before I even thought to snap a picture of the whole display! Had my eye on the famed black pig pork, but after a pork-heavy week, I leaned towards beef, which didn't disappoint. Still, the black pig shabushabu is on my list for next time! And the cherry on top? A complimentary beer, a delightful surprise I only noticed when it wasn't on the bill. A huge thank you to the staff for that! This place is a must-visit in Kagoshima, earning a solid 5 stars from me. Can't wait for my next visit to dive into more of their culinary delights!

Ordered two different sets to share, one main with shabushabu pork and one with steak cooked on a hot iron pan. (Forgot to take photo). Besides eating the food we were also eating the culture and history and pride of the locals. Ate sakezushi the first time, really interesting.

Good Japanese fine dining experience As they specially assigned a waiter (Phil) who know English well. He help to explain everything we ordering. Very service oriented but the food a bit on the steep side and not that interesting .

Decent local Satsuma meal set with food in small dishes. My husband and I ordered a 5000 yen set that includes black pork shabushabu (japanese hot pot) and a 3000 yen set. It was plenty for two and they were delicious! I especially liked the broiled pork - it melted in your mouth; and the SatsumaAge ( Satsuma fried fish cakes). All other small dishes were very good. The pictures are only a part of the meal.

It was my first meal when I arrived kagoshima for its served authentic local cuisine and its taste didn't fail us! I went there in lunch and the set meal was in a decent portion and not pricey! They have English menu and the staff was friendly. Highly recommended!

Google
slightly overrated in my opinion. the pork shabu shabu...., it's as good as the porks that i could buy from donki. love the stew pork and satsuma beef steak although a tab costly.

Great traditional satsuma cuisine. Very welcoming to foreigners and the have a English menu. Take your time and enjoy a full course of savory traditional cuisine. However, be prepare to be challenged on the different dishes with the tastes and the wide variety of ingredients.

Yelp
It was rainy and cold night. I just want to eat. 熊襲亭 Kumasotei welcomed us with open arms. I like the menu choice of set dinner. A taste of everything! As a tourist, I want to try everything! Their Satsuma Dinner Set starts from ¥3000 to ¥10000+ so depends on your budget! We were happy with the ¥3240 Mikoto Course as it gives you a taste of Kagoshima but without breaking the bank. And for cold weather, nothing beat a shabu shabu of Kagoshima Berkshire Pork Kurobuta! Mikoto Set for ¥3000 comes with 10 pieces of thinly sliced pork and Kibinago sashimi and sides/dessert. Highly recommend ordering one of the Satsuma set as the food offerings is interesting and unique for tourists. English menu available.

Yelp
An excellent dining experience for two gaijin in Kagoshima. We were welcomed and spoken to in good English, with many suggestions and explanations throughout a wonderful dinner. We shared one Satsuma-ryori dinner course and one shabu-shabu course, and this was a delightful combination. The flavors of the dinner were excellent, and the shabu-shabu experience was both fun and delicious. To top everything up, we paid actually less than what the menu said (!), and were totally amazed and satisfied with the service (as always in Japan).
