Came by for Chinese New Year. Atmosphere: Not the comfiest table seating and a little drafty by the bathroom, but I forgot about that once our food came. Price: The portions were quite fair for the $16 price. I brought someone who typically never has leftovers and they had enough chicken for a snack the next day. Food: I love when a place has both vegan AND meat on the menu so my company is happy. The dishes we ordered both had us happy dancing in our seats. Cons: Hours- The service was lovely, but I did notice that it is not welcomed to arrive at 9:30 despite the closing time being 10pm.

Decided to try eating out on Christmas Day and chose Kung POW, and loved our meal. The restaurant was crowded, of course with the holiday, but we waited about 40 minutes and we're seated. The staff is amazing at moving people about after serving food, clearing the tables and resetting them. Thumbs up to the staff! For starters we ordered the Fried Tofu, which was exactly as it sounds, large pieces of fried tofu with some soy sauce on the side. For dinner, I ordered the Broccoli With Tofu served with the house sauce, a slightly sweet brown sauce. The broccoli was very fresh with a slight crunch, the dish was fantastic, slight heat but not too spicy. My partner ordered the Sesame Tofu with garlic, ginger and a sweet and spicy sauce on a bed of broccoli. The broccoli is just so fresh. Our son ordered the Sesame Chicken served with garlic, ginger, and a sweet and spicy house sauce. He loved his dish. For the table we ordered a plate of Dried Sauteed String Beans served with minced ginger and a soy sauce. Like the broccoli the string beans were extremely fresh with a nice crunch. Overall, great food, fresh ingredients and amazing service, especially when overly crowded. Highly recommend.

First off, a proper/authentic east asian especially Chinese restaurant wouldn't serve white rice in a tiny small plate, it's always in a bowl, unless it's with other food or fried rice then it'll be in a big plate with depth. There are cultural and functional reasons behind. Mapo tofu was bland, wrong tofu type, wrong spice. The tofu portion was good. I saw good reviews on Google map and thought I could expect something authentic but left disappointed. I don't recommend it to those familiar with real Chinese cuisines. If you want something fusion and toned down, a spacious place with decent price then still an okay option I guess.

Amazing Chinese Food and Service! I grabbed a delivery order of the vegetable trio - broccoli, shitake mushrooms, snow peas with white rice and spring rolls! It came with huge pieces of freshly cut mushrooms! It was a last minute order and it was 30 min before they closed. I appreciate how kind they were taking my order over the phone and how nicely my food was made inspite of this! They have options for online ordering for pick-up or delivery service. The dining room is super clean, cozy and inviting when you walk in. I will definitely be ordering again and putting this in my top 3 of Chinese restaurants I order from! Thank you for such wonderful food and service!

Google
Honestly shocked this place doesn’t have higher reviews! My partner and I live next door but didn’t think too much of Kung POW due to it never being busy inside + the somewhat average rating. But a friend recommended we try it and now we can’t stop going. We call in our takeout order and it’s done 10-15 minutes later each time. My partner says the honey dry fried beef is one of the best American Chinese dishes he’s ever had. And I can’t stop ordering the sesame tofu & broccoli. It’s big servings so always leaves us a serving or two of leftovers which makes the pricing incredibly good! I highly recommend this place.

Google
It’s nice to see a Chinese Restaurant that has not stooped to the Orange Chicken & Sweet and Sour all you can eat buffet quality. This place is great. I only had the Kung Pow Chicken for lunch. Medium. And their medium is the real deal medium Hot. Vegetables were cooked correctly and still had texture and snap. Chicken was not breaded which was nice to see. One of the better Chinese places in Portland.

Google
We enjoyed Sichuan Eggplant ($15), Clay Pot Pork Belly Ma Po Tofu ($16), Honey Dried Fried Beef ($17), and White Rice ($1 x 2) along with a Front George IPA (#7) and a Spiked Strawberry Lemonade cocktail ($10). The beef and eggplant were both delicious, and although the Ma Po Tofu wasn't the typical version, it was very tasty as a Clay Pot Pork Belly Tofu dish.🤤

Google
The food was insanely good!!! We had the hot and sour soup (pic #1), the clay pot curry chicken (pic #2), and the king pow beef (pic #3). The service and food were so AMAZING and we will definitely be coming back!!!

Yelp
I ordered the sesame chicken, medium spicy, to go. The layout here was interesting. They have a large dining room that was almost entirely empty except for one table, and then a closed off area with a bar that looked a lot nicer, but was equally empty. While I was waiting for my order to be made, two other people came in to pick up delivery. This place definitely caters to take out and delivery despite having the set up for what looks like a nice dine in experience. The service was good despite only one person running front of house. The person up front managed to take orders, and pour drink for their table as well as take my order. They were friendly and accommodating. When the food was ready the back of house staff brought it out and handed it to those who were waiting; good teamwork between front and back. The food itself was ok. They definitely make it all fresh in house because the chunks of chicken were absolutely gigantic. Normally large food portions is a good thing, but these chunks were so big that they needed to be cut up before you could eat them; not used to fried saucy Chinese food being bigger than bite sized. Medium spicy was plenty spicy for me as someone who likes some spice in their food but doesn't necessarily subject themselves to super spicy things. I might go a little milder next time. The chicken was a little soggier than I would have wanted when I got home 8 minutes later, but over all it was good and I liked it. Worth noting, entrees don't automatically come with rice; it's 1$ to add on. Overall I would say; the service was good, the establishment was nice, and the food was OK but didn't reflect the quality implied by the price point.

Yelp
I ordered the soy curls red curry noodle as takeaway and it was made pretty quickly. Quantity was good too, only thing was I didn't really taste any "red curry" flavor. It just tasted like spicy noodles without any sort of taste to it. I do like the amount of vegetarian options they had, maybe just ordering it to go isn't as good as is it would be sitting inside and eating.

Yelp
I'm surprised my some of the reviews that are negative - perhaps we just went on a good day. Food we liked: chicken noodle soup, lamb appetizer (spicy), and the pork belly hot pot tofu with chicken curry fried rice. Ambience was great - very good service and clean tables! The only reason I took off a star was that the place says it closes at 10pm but we were there at 9:30pm and the staff were hovering for us to leave. Try it - perhaps you'll have better luck than some of the other reviewers on here.

Yelp
I've been on the search for a good vegan friendly Chinese spot for a while now. Kung Pow has seriously impressed me with the large variety they offer vegan. Everything is clearly indicated which I appreciate. I ordered my food to go and called the restaurant to ensure all my dishes were 100% vegan. The owner who answered the phone was extremely friendly and helpful, making sure what I ordered was made exactly how I wanted. Some menu highlights for me were the vegan potstickers and the Kung Pow! Tofu. The portions are a good sizing too. I do however wish they would add some more vegetables. Other than that I would highly recommend trying this place out!

Yelp
Ordered Sesame Chicken and it was just 5 giant chunks of dry white meat. $16 for this is just sad. If you see the dining room empty there's a reason why, you will be disappointed

Yelp
Super-nice staff and the best Hot and Sour Soup! Even gluten free! I'm mostly a vegetarian but I make an exception once a month to order their hot and sour soup. It is soul food. Their vegetable dishes are delicious and well prepared too. The decor is warm and relaxing. Go To This Restaurant. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Fried rice is the meal of the people. You got leftover rice? Fry it up. Got a bunch of leftover ingredients you don't know what to do with? Pineapple pepper fried rice. You want to go nuts and class it up? Break out the shaoxing wine and put your foot on the gas. It is practical, it is filling, and it is good I've eaten many a fried rices both homemade (check out Jason Farmer's recipe on Youtube) and at restaurants and this one was the most confusing. "Why are the pork belly pieces so big?" "Why are you using jalapeños instead of chili oil for spiciness? " "Why is it mushy?" And then comes the worst thought you can ever have when eating at a restaurant "I could make a better version of this at home." It's a condescending and disrespectful notion that ignores many parts of why restaurants even exist but it's a little embarassing if it's true. And for me it is. Not because I'm particularly great at cooking but the bar just really isn't that high. The staff was kind but for the price I expected better. If you want a truly exciting fried rice I'd recommend Eem

Yelp
Place was nice and the atmosphere was enjoyable, staff is friendly and attentive, food was great and the cocktail was a surprise hit.

Yelp
Delicious fresh tasting food. Pleasant atmosphere. Really nice servers and owners. It was a delightful place to enjoy dinner. There are a lot of excellent vegan choices and plenty of options for non-vegans as well. Servings are generous. Highly recommend. This was a great find!

Yelp
Nice looking place, but they seem confused by someone wandering in off the street to have lunch. Then they give me a chicken dish with these huge pieces of white meat, difficult to eat without access to a knife. And the few vegetables are obvious out of a frozen food bag. Meh.
google avatar

Yelp
Take-out portions have gotten ridiculous. Half box should be half price but instead twice price?! No joke it was just 3 mouthfuls per box. What little we did taste was overly salty. We pick up without any utensils or napkins and you ask for tip?! C'mon. Do not get kung pow'd duped and make sure to point out you want value not a chop in the wallet.

Yelp
I was really craving some sesame chicken and wonton soup, and this was incredibly disappointing. I barely ate any of it before tossing it. The sesame chicken was soggy and the breading was SO THICK. It was like eating raw dough wrapped around chicken. By the time I peeled away the breading I was just eating plain chicken. Add to that it was $15 and then extra money for the side of white rice. Then the wonton soup, the flavor was just...off. It almost tasted like a beef broth? It was inedible. My most petty complaint is that there was no fortune cookie. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Yelp
Plenty of vegetarian & vegan options, great service & good background music. I was intrigued when passing & now I'm passing it on

We've been twice and really enjoyed our meal each time. They have lots of tasty options to choose from, the staff is very quick and friendly too.

Yelp
I ordered the cherry pork. It was okay. Did not come with rice, had to pay extra. Overpriced for the portion. Was disappointed

Yelp
Divine! The best of the best! Amazing spicy wontons and Kung pow! The owner is super cool and they also have a great place inside!

Yelp
we just moved to portland and we are making it a mission to find our neighborhood staples. we're looking for the best coffee shops, the best mexican restaurant, the best carneceria to buy meat, and the best chinese food. i saw kung pow and read some of the reviews and i'll be honest, i was definitely nervous. it didn't look like some people had the best experience. but i refuse to define my portland experience by others, so we decided to check it out! the space is big. parking nearby too! it's a good space for a birthday celebration or even a first date! a lot of restaurants in the neighborhood are preparing for lunar new year so i love seeing the decorations. service and hosts were kind and quick to answer any questions! we started with the pan pacific wontons (fresh crab, cream cheese). my partner wasn't a big fan of them (which made me nervous about the entrees) but i liked them! now for the big meals.. i ordered the beef and broccoli with steamed rice and kevin ordered the clay pot pork belly ma po and y'all.... this was the best meal we've had since being here. we were STUFFED! i could not get enough of BOTH! the beef in the beef and broccoli was tender. and the house made soy sauce was perfection!! i only wish their was a spicer option!!! the clay pot pork belly was the star of the show. even without the pork belly, the tofu and the SAUCE made this EVERYTHING! such a good spice, tender pork belly, that spicy bean sauce tied everything together. meals are about $10-20 per person, they offer vegetarian and vegan meals as well! we had no leftovers. we will be coming back!

Yelp
Honey Dried Fried Chicken. Eat it. It's breaded like a funnel cake and it's juicy breast meat. Delish!

Yelp
I visited Kung Pow last week and got takeout! I only ordered one dish this time. It was the honey dried fried chicken. The staff were friendly when I picked up and when I got home, I was happy to see that there was big pieces of chicken and some vegetables. The sauce was sweet and a little spicy. The chicken was fried nicely and held up to the sauce. I would get this dish again and I look toward to coming back here in the future.

Yelp
Horrible chicken rubbery and service was meh the ambiance felt rushed! at least I got a good nights sleep in the bush outside very nice!

Yelp
I get food poisoning with a vegan dish I was sick in bed for 3 weeks I think this place is awful please watch out people.

Yelp
Went to a wedding catered by Kung POW! and though the food was flavorful, the whole process was poorly executed and each dish was cold. The meal was a six course family-style meal and each dish was brought to us every 15 minutes or so. First and foremost, not a single dish was delivered warm. Everything was cold and not the least bit warm. Disappointing for a catering service. Cold fried lobster and fried tofu tasted as sad as it sounds. The white rice was brought last which was extremely disappointing because it is a palate cleanser and your Go-To spice and salt relief. Everyone at the table was already filled up on dishes and water by the time the rice got to the table. So 99.9% of the rice was untouched. Each dish had its own unique flavor but I couldn't help but think that it was overly flavored. At times some dishes tasted like an extension of Panda Express. I would have appreciated more authentic lightly flavored food items rather than Americanized blow-your-taste-buds-off-with-sauce flavor.
google avatar

Christy J.

Yelp
Again, ripped off by another restaurant in Portland while getting delivery. Flavors not right, skimpy ingredients and the sesame beef was actually inedible. Rubbery nasty and gross. No green onions in the dish. Nothing but rubbery flavorless meat. I ate the soup because I was starving but it was pretty much just water. After working all day and having the shakes from being so hungry because my blood sugar was all over the place this expense experience has just made me feel worse. I want a refund.

Pl38 L.

Yelp
Really solid vegetarian options here, plus they don't close at 9 like most restaurants. Service was also very warm and welcoming. I still can't believe those potstickers...so good!
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
The pork belly fried rice is amazing. If you like spice(I do!) then get a side of the spicy mustard with it and you will be in heaven. My wife got the cherry pork and that also impressed us. Great service too.
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
The green beans are a must. Everything has been delightful. The people who work there/own the restaurant are great. It is super fast and bonus points for being open on holidays!

Josie S.

Yelp
The food was so delicious and the service was excellent. We dined in and we got our food quickly. Everything exceeded our expectations and the vegan options were great. The restaurant was really cute inside and the staff couldn't have been sweeter or more helpful. I would highly recommend!

Yelp
During COVID times, I can't speak to how dine-in service would've been like. BUT I can speak to how amazing the food was! I loveddd everything and have been thinking about coming back since. They have me hooked. We ordered through Uber Eats for pick up the following: Fried fish balls with spicy curry sauce, Chicken wings, Kung pow tofu, and Red curry soy curls. Within 15 minutes (the amount of time it took for us to get there) everything was packaged and ready for us. Parking was a bit tough... we found a street spot a few blocks away. The smell was enticing during the ride home. We had a pot of rice waiting for us home and we started eating immediately. Everything was incredibly flavorful, comforting, and addicting. We could not stop eating. Some items could come off as salty, but I thought it was perfect with white rice. Everything was great, but my absolute favorites were the fish balls with that amazing thick curry sauce and the soy curl noodles. I would come back for those items and try some of their other offerings too.

Yelp
Ordered the via Uber Eats the Red Curry Soy Curls Noodles ($13), Fried Fish Balls with Spicy Curry Sauce ($11), Kung Pow Tofu ($12), and Chicken Wings with Zhen Bang Rub ($10). The food was ready in 15 mins (which is pretty fast) and they sealed them tightly in takeout containers so the food remained piping hot. Overall, each item was delicious and sauced very much. My favorite was the fried fish balls, which were the size of large meatballs and covered in spicy curry and minced garlic. It was exactly like eating a seafood fish ball that is fried, which is a soft bite. The chicken wings were also very flavorful with sichuan sauce and dry rub. The chicken was fried very well so that it has a crispy texture on the outside and tender meat. The spice rub was great, which I could taste hints of spicy peppers and orange zest. The red curry soy curls looked has homemade noodles, which has a soft texture rather than chewy from store-bought noodles. There was plenty of shiitake mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions to go along with the red curry. The overall taste was full of flavorful spices from the curry and soft bites from the mushrooms. The kung pow tofu was okay because the large amounts of sauce overpowered the other flavors. It was rather salty. Be careful to not eat the chili pods whole since they contain seeds that are very spicy. The tofu was cooked well since it was soft.

Yelp
I cannot begin to explain the splendor that is Kung POW! My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for over 4 years now and I can honestly claim without any doubt, that this is truly the best Chinese food in all of Portland; but the more we search, the more we come to realize this may be the best Chinese food we've ever had period! The quality, consistency, and experience is always above and beyond any expectations I've had for any restaurant. THE FOOD: First off, the food is what brings you in, but the family who owns this restaurant (along with the food, obviously) is what keeps us coming back. Getting to the food, not 1 single item on this menu is bad. We are honestly some of the pickiest eaters; my family and I. Any dish, it's gotta have the right texture, the right level of salty, sweet, acidity, spice, tenderness, heat etc all play a major level of what we deem to deserve such a raving review. Every bite of every of any single 1 of these dishes will have the perfect harmony of umami. This is genuinely the only place where we know if we want to be adventurous and try something new; we know this will not be at the expense of accidentally getting something we don't like. Some of our favorite dishes which are staples for us here are: -salt and pepper prawns These are seriously incredible. The prawns are huge and they are perfectly breaded, but they are deep fried in a manner that has the exterior golden, crisp, but never dry. And the prawns are cooked perfectly. In all our years of ordering this dish, I have never, I repeat, NEVER received a dry shrimp. And the pepper and salt ratio is perfect for this dish with its jalapeños, green onions, white onions and various seasonings to create such an amazing dish. Singapore noodles- These are spectacular. They have a variety of veggies and your choice of meet. But there are seasoned perfectly, and they are such a good dish either alone or as an addition to give your other entrees some breathing room. The way they c oil these noodles in this specific oil blend is honestly just magic. We've tried this with each meat option, for us we are in love with the shrimp option, but honestly you can't go wrong with any of the meat options. Everything here is so consistently put together. You can't go wrong honestly. Honey dried fried beef- This amazing establishment has created this in a variety of meat options; chicken, pork, beef. Again all of them are spectacular but we honestly go with the beef. The way this is fried, it's hard to explain. The meet is still very tender, but at the same time it's like these are double fried and smothered I. The most delicious savory sweet sauce. And when you combine that sauce with the perfect crunch, it's fireworks in a bite. It goes soooo good one some white rice too. Potstickers- We've saved the best item on the menu for last, which is ironic because it's a mandatory staple for starting your meal with these. The pork potstickers on this menu are honestly apart of my last meal fantasy meal. These potstickers cannot be defined by any human language. Nothing on this world could come close to explaining how perfect these gems are. The way these are made, they just be fried somehow as the top as a nice texture like a potsticker would. That slight doughy pasta like texture, but the BOTTOM these are golden and crunchy which contrasts sooooo nicely with the soft top of the potsticker. The meat is a beautiful mixture of aromatics inside. What puts these angels on their private stairway to heaven is the sauce which is hand mixed each serving. The sauce is the perfect amount of acidity with these. And if you cut the potsticker in half, put a little spoonful in the half potsticker, this is what we would call the "perfect bite." This perfect bite haunts my dreams until my next visit to Kung POW. If by the time you finish this review and still wonder if you should come to this true joy, do yourself a favor and make the leap; you won't regret it. This is a place that has you come for the incredible food, but it will have you come back and stay for the truest of memories created at this place. My family have done Christmas dinner here a variety of times and this place will become a memory cornerstone for you too. Just give this amazing place a chance-rather than this place being lucky you gave it a chance, you will come to realize you are the lucky one to have been able to have been served by such a genuine restaurant.

Jodie D.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant via take out and it was great! I had the sauted brussel sprouts with chicken added; the other dishes we tried were the Chinese Sausage fried rice and red curry prawn noodles. We also got an order of potstickers and they were FABULOUS. We all really liked our food. It was less greasy than most american chinese food and very tasty. Having been to China where the food is wonderful, I'm typically not a huge fan of American chinese food but this place doesn't fit in that category - we will definitely be back. By the way, the portions where large - definitely worth the price.

Yelp
Unlike smaller towns across America that always seem to have a single "Chinese Cuisine" place between a gas station and an Arby's, There's no shortage of Chinese food places on the west side. Kung POW! is a pretty solid spot, a star or two higher than your average strip mall joint with a menu board featuring back lit pictures of the dishes above an order counter. The Gan Shao Chili Sauce Fish Balls have a pretty good kick, and the Lamb Bao Bing will make you wonder what you ever saw in that Mu Shu Pork dish you ordered at your go-to sit down Chinese place. This place seems to hang it's hat on a modern approach to vegan Chinese... not that there's anything wrong with that... the namesake Kung POW tofu might fit this bill, but I'm a bit of a carnivore when it comes to food served on a lazy Susan. A pretty full menu, a colorful mural on the wall, and a full bar mean this place has something for everyone. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes using Mongolian or Sesame as adjectives. One staple I always try at every new place I try is the hot and sour soup-- Kung POW's was a little heavy handed with the corn starch, but it has a nice flavor and plenty of mushrooms, chicken, and those crunchy willow tree mushroom things. Could have done without the peas, though. Overall, I like this spot. I'm not often in Portland, so you won't catch me holding the door open for folks walking in or just walking by as I exit. But this place saves you a buck or two per dish compared to the likes of Shandong, Duck House, or Happy Dragon here and there around the town. Worth a look, in my book.

Yelp
I love Kung Pow because it is so out of place. Last time I checked they still had their dining room shut down. They actually do have delicious small plates-tapas as the Spainish call it. I dunno. Asian fusion has always attracted me. However Kann is now what I have my eyes on and Le Pidgeon was always my original favorite. Love the attitude of the ex owner of Pok Pok had tho.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
This is the best take-out Chinese on the west side. Shandong beef, potstickers, honey dried fried chicken, Judy's noodles with shrimp and sautéed green beans are all my crowd favorites. As a native Portlander and Asian food fanatic, this is as good as it gets in Portland. No-brainer. Go. Now.

Alexandra J.

Yelp
Awful, don't waste your money. Hot and sour soup was missing several ingredients and the tofu was rubber. Wontons had no chili oil, weren't uniform and bland. I would never order from here again. A waste of $30. Couldn't eat it.

Yelp
Great Chinese food closer to 23rd. We've been picking up food often from here and it's always very consistent. Potion sizes are pretty decent as well.

Yelp
All the dishes we ordered last night was great. Cooked well and the sauces were on point. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. Great for big groups.

Yelp
First time in here and was happy to be served a complimentary cup of hot and sour soup. Liked the addition of black pepper vs the standard white pepper that most Chinese restaurants use. When I first walked in, there was no one in the restaurant which is always seems ominous to me, Like is this place not very good or have people just decided it wasn't lunch time yet? Luckily for me, it was the latter and by the time I left, there was a good stream of people for the two guys working the floor. Ordered the Schezwan wontons in spicy chili oil and was referred to try the shrimp chow mein. Was impressed by the shrimp and dug the flavor of the noodles but could have easily been shared by 2 people. It hit the spot for what I was looking for and would definitely come back to try their other menu items.

Yelp
Kung POW... there aren't enough words to fill this review for yelp. It is such a miraculous place with the most amazing staff! They are back open for indoor dining. The staff is ready to make it special for you. It's so wonderful! The pork potstickers are drool worthy; they have a crispy exterior and the sauce to dip them in is sooooooooo good! We also had the go to Hot & Sour Soup which is so delicious. Ask them for the side sauces (hot oil and soy) after devouring our appetizers we ventured forth to our main course of Salt and Pepper Prawns, Honey Dried Fried Beef and Singapore Noodles. These are something we've been ordering for years but there are so many tasty things there. I don't know how to describe the Honey Dried Fried Beef but it's crunchy, sweet, spicy and tangy... it's a MUST try if you've never tried anything like that before. We hope you try Kung POW! becomes part of your family traditions too!

Yelp
This is my wife and I favorite Chinese restaurant in Portland. It is in a good location. They have fantastic vegetarian options. Their vegan pot stickers are to die for. Their sweet and sour chicken is really good. This is my favorite place to eat family style because I want 5 dishes when I go.

Yelp
Solid Chinese food in northwest Portland. Everything is served family style and the portions are generous. Staff is really friendly and helpful.

Yelp
was not impressed by this order at all. My food must've been cooked hours ago because it tasted like it had been sitting/was not fresh. But, most of all, I made sure to note a peanut allergy on every item I ordered... I even saw the instructions on my receipt ..STILL one of my dishes had peanuts!!!!!!! My daughter has a severe peanut allergy and I am so let down by the carelessness of this restaurant. I doubt I'll ever return.

Yelp
Having moved from NE to NW - we used to live so close to Shandong, and often ordered take-out. Kung Pow! is the Shandong of NW 23rd, and luckily it's close to those of us living on the west side now. We haven't been in person, but I've ordered quite a few times for takeout, and the food quality is what we had come to expect with Shandong - consistent quality, good ingredients and a fair price. Plus, orders are completed quickly (and accurately thank goodness!) We always order the Pan Pacific Wantons, and then usually a Kung Pao Shrimp or Tofu, Northern Style Fried Rice is also a standard. Since we're close enough to pickup - we do that, I don't order delivery, because inevitably it will be cold by the time it gets here.

Yelp
First time visit to this restaurant today. We wanted take out and wandered in mid-afternoon. The place was empty, but the staff was immediately attentive and very friendly. We were specifically looking for gluten free items and we were thrilled to find that they can make everything GF, with the exception of anything battered. The menu had a good variety of options. We ordered four dishes and it was quickly cooked and ready to go. The price was a little high, but isn't everything these days? The food was very fresh and flavorful and the portions were generous. While parking is always a pain in this part of the city, we would definitely order from them again. All good.

Yelp
Oops, I thought I'd already given this place the five star review that it deserves. Not only is the food delicious but the service is also impeccable. They go out of their way to adjust ingredients to meet dietary restrictions and allergies. We really love getting the Chinese sausage fried rice, the Zhen Bang Chicken, Gwai Wer Noodles, Sichuan Eggplant, etc. Everything we've tried we've loved.

Yelp
We arrived in the late evening to Portland. It was our first time. We rented an apartment and after finding a Trader Joe's, we just decided to do take out. KP was down the street from TJ's. I ordered the Kung POW chicken, Mongolian beef, and northern style chicken fried rice. Everything was delicious! My favorite was the Kung POW! Good flavor with the right amount of heat. I do wish there was a sauce with the rolls, or if there was, it wasn't in the bag. Yes, it appears to be pricier than some places, but their location is prime! I would've liked to eat in their dining room, but we had our dog with us. The staff was friendly, funny even! I would definitely come back when my travels bring me up again!

Yelp
The xiao long bao wasn't great. It was okay at best. The wrapper was too thick. There was barely any soup in the dumpling. It wasn't very flagrant like I'm used to with other xlb dumplings. They didn't have regular vinegar which was fine. I just used the one they gave me. Overall, they were ok xlb dumplings. Nothing really special.

Yelp
While Portland has a plethora of Thai, Vietnamese and Sushi restaurants, Chinese restaurants, especially good ones where you want to go back again and again, are a rarity. Kung Pow, conveniently located on NW 21st, serves solid, affordable Chinese food in a bright, clean space with friendly and super efficient service. Pow! Portland, we finally have another option for Sichuan Chinese! We arrived early on a Saturday night for dinner prior to a Blazer game. They have a decent cocktail and adult beverage menu. A friend ordered the cucumber gin&tonic and the owner told us they were out of cucumber. No worries, she ordered a glass of wine instead. A few minutes later we watched the owner walk across the street to Trader Joe's to buy cucumbers! Now that's service. For our group of four we shared the following dishes: - Pork Potstickers. Divine! Large, cooked perfectly with a golden crisp bottom and soft but al dente top with flavorful, juicy ground pork enhanced with spices inside. Served with what seemed like a soy chili dipping sauce, which I made spicier with more chili oil, I would have been completely satisfied if this was the only thing I ate! - Chicken Siu Miu. Ground chicken & water chestnuts steamed dumplings. Delicious! - Sautéd Green Beans. Crisp with tons of minced garlic and turnips. We can't have a Chinese dinner without a plate of these veggies that everyone, even our gluten-free friends can enjoy. - Shrimp & Snowpeas. Another staple for me is any protein with snowpeas. I just love them and they rarely appear in non Chinese menus. My go protein with this dish is usually beef or chicken, but this night we opted for shrimp and I'm so glad we did. The shrimp were HUGE and perfectly cooked. The sauce so mild that it complimented and allowed the shrimp to stand out rather than cover the taste of the shrimp. Will always order this dish here from this point forward! - Honey Dry Fried Chicken. Based on other Yelpers, we had to try it. The white meat is coated in thick batter then fried keeping the meat super juicy and tender and the batter crisp. Served with a sweet sauce with frozen peas and carrots That just didn't make sense to me. I'd order again just for the chicken. - Mu Shu Pork. Lots of cabbage and veggies, needed more pork. Served with very thin pancakes that fell apart as soon as we put the filling inside so we eat with chopsticks. Still tasted good but I'd probably pass on this dish next time. As I mentioned, the service was great. We first sat at a table under an air vent, and they moved us without any hesitation. Drink orders were offered as soon as we sat and were brought out quickly. Hot tea was replenished without asking, as was the large bottle of cold water on the table. When we finished, the owner came over and put the leftovers in tiny to-go boxes, which was probably best as we would have compiled all in one or two whereas he kept every dish separate. Already I want to go back for the pork potstickers and the shrimp with snowpeas! And try other dishes! Fortunately, my friends also loved this restaurant, and like me, they prefer ordering family style so we can try lots of dishes. A winner!
