Very bad experience. The tunnel was essentially empty, save for a small wooden room they built in the middle as an "art piece." I understand that this was a special exhibit, and art can be subjective, but we were deeply disappointed and felt it was not worth the money or the time. Do not recommend unless you are aware of the nature of the exhibit currently running, and are interested. There is also a bar on top of it.

Small and interesting museum gallery built in a tunnel. The exhibitions are changing frequently, so there is always something new to see. However, it's worth checking in advance what they are currently displaying to make sure that it fits your interests. The tickets are very affordable, only 4€. It's a cool concept so it's definitely worth checking out.

There is literally NOTHING in this "museum" right now, except for two white sheets, a projector & an empty room. That they charge for entrance is criminal--I feel like I was duped. Ignore the picture of art hanging on the walls, it's long gone.

The best art museum in Düsseldorf and most of Germany by far. It is really cool and ahead of its time. The museum is built underground the harbor in a tunnel.

Update: going by other reviews since, it's had much more interesting installations than when I went, so it's worth a go. It changes regularly and you might be lucky and not find it as empty as I did! Original review: I don't know if they were trying to capture "emptiness" as a form of art but there was basically nothing there. One liminal space at the entrance with a mono TV (that anyone can see as it's at the desk where you pay) and one down an empty corridor with some bean bags at the end and a video of some lady with a gadget on her hand waving it around saying something like "I am breathing" over and over. That's it. No paintings or anything. Maybe brought to you by the same ones who did the Wonka experience in Glasgow? But sounds like even that had more to it! My pictures are the entire thing. Thankfully it was free with my Düsseldorfcard. I wouldn't want to pay €4 for it.

You probably won't find the gallery in the former tunnel anywhere else and for that reason alone it is worth visiting this place. In addition, with the "Düsseldorf Card" you do not pay any additional entrance fee. The place is very photogenic and at the time of our visit there was one of the installations on which it was possible to practice photographic composition. On Friday around noon we were the only visitors here.

It is very small but it is really creative. It changes completely and all of them are temporary exhibits, the time that I was there it was different chair/desk/bed settings with some books on each of them so you can sit/sleep on different settings and read books that I found it very cool. For finding the entrance door you need to enter the coffee shop and from there you can ask them and they will show you the way.

It is a small exhibit but it's always changing with new artists so it's really cool interesting stuff. Also had a lovely conversation with one of the volunteers. Keep it up KIT!!

Yelp
Massive thanks to the person on duty for letting me visit this museum even tho' my Düsseldorf card had expired by 30 mins! Also, this museum is a bit subversive to find (at least it was for me!) I went in and there was a cafe and for the life of me, couldn't see any museum entrance. I had in fact turned to leave, when from the corner of my eye, saw an empty space with stairs descending down and realized had found the entrance! So definitely preserve or ask the staff where the entrance is, cause (for me at least) it wasn't so obvious!) Anyway after going downstairs, the museum staff gave me a pamphlet about the artworks and while the Artist's statements are only in German, there was also an English language booklet about the 7 installations on display. There is also a space to hang your coat ego for the desk of the museum staff and they also stored the suitcases of a couple who entered the museum after me. The bathrooms are located in the far right from the entrance and surprised me with how many stalls there were in the women's bathroom (5!). Everything was very clean and well maintained. Of the artwork displayed, when I visited in December 2018, I liked quite a few, which I found thought-provoking: 1) an installation called " Marx, I love you will you marry me' which was hung from a helicopter and then flown about. I found this humorous and taking capitalism to an extreme. 2) video installation called "Culture Lovers" starts of with as dog's poo and then a skateboard all's into the crap and the poo transforms into "We Trust"'words on a the skateboarder's shirt. 3) Sand on the floor and "she sells sea shells on the sea floor whispering from across the sand" There were a total of 7 installations between 4 artists and they ran the gamut of Multimedia, sculpture, sound, video and words. I'm glad got to check it out. Yelp 249/ 2018

Yelp
KIT is a gallery and a café. For the gallery you pay 4 euro (3 euro for students) entrance which is a fair price. The gallery is not big though, so if you're not the slowest expect to be done in 10 minutes. Yes it is that small, just so you know. The art is modern and the expo's change. When I went they had the expo 'Sugar' I think it was the work of a class of art academy graduates so all the work was different. There were about 15 pieces of which I liked 5 or something. But then, I'm not really a fan of modern art, I do like contemporary art but it has to be very skill full like with the old masters, that kind of skill full. There were a few pieces like that and I loved them. The other stuff.. well, not so much. I'm sure there is a idea behind them but I could remake them and there was no sign telling the story or though behind those pieces so they meant nothing to me. The café upstairs is a nice spot for a drink, a sandwich or something sweet. They have a lot of different pies and cakes. Don't sit close to the door when the weather is cold because the door is huge and every time it opens you'll get cold and it is not comfortable. (Yes I had this) I would say KIT is okay, the café is nice, I liked some of the pieces and I can imagine other, more interesting, expo's their as well. If you are into modern art I'm sure you'll like it. The price is very decent so it is worth checking out.
