"When the rain starts to fall, this colorful drain and gutter system in the Neustadt Kunsthofpassage turns into a charming musical instrument. The “Courtyard of Elements” is one of the strangest and most enjoyable attractions in Dresden’s student district in the new town. It’s part of the Kunsthofpassage series of courtyards, which is an art experiment by the tenants of the apartment buildings on which the works are installed. Created by sculptor Annette Paul and designers Christoph Rossner and Andre Tempel, this piece was inspired by Rube Goldberg Machine, converting the mere patter of rainfall into a spectacular orchestral symphony. The other installations in the Kunsthofpassage project include Hof des Lichts, or “Courtyard of Light,” Hof der Tiere, “Courtyard of Animals,” and Hof der Metamorphosen, “Courtyard of the Metamorphoses.”" - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Kunsthofpassage in Dresden feels like stepping into a hidden creative universe. Located in the vibrant Neustadt district, known for its artistic and alternative scene, this passage is a collection of courtyards transformed by a group of artists in the early 2000s. Each courtyard has its own theme, blending architecture, color, and imagination. The most famous is the 'Singing Drain Pipes' courtyard, designed by Annette Paul, Christoph Roßner, and André Tempel, which turns rain into music. It’s a must-visit for those who love unique art, creative spaces, and an inspiring atmosphere.

Beautiful city and very friendly people. Everyone has been pleasant and kind even when I don't speak very much German. I love the history also of this place also. Very interesting, so read up people.

Quirky arty shopping area over the river in the northern area Dresden. Worth a visit. If you don't want to walk there is a tram route but it heads south.

a project from 20 years ago that other cities should learn from to beautify abandoned backyards. Not only the passage, the small streets around it are buzzing with secret nightlife, it smells of wonderful Asian cuisine and very interesting

Really unique place to visit! It was really fun being there, and seeing how the blue house design actually works. There is a restaurant and a cafe too, for anyone who'd like to rest around these fun houses.

It's a bit hidden, I missed it the first time I walked past the alley. The art feels a bit kitschy, don't know much about the place though.
