A Global Tour of Remarkable Musical Instruments

"When the rain starts to fall, this colorful drain and gutter system in the Neustadt Kunsthofpassage turns into a charming musical instrument. The “Courtyard of Elements” is one of the strangest and most enjoyable attractions in Dresden’s student district in the new town. It’s part of the Kunsthofpassage series of courtyards, which is an art experiment by the tenants of the apartment buildings on which the works are installed. Created by sculptor Annette Paul and designers Christoph Rossner and Andre Tempel, this piece was inspired by Rube Goldberg Machine, converting the mere patter of rainfall into a spectacular orchestral symphony. The other installations in the Kunsthofpassage project include Hof des Lichts, or “Courtyard of Light,” Hof der Tiere, “Courtyard of Animals,” and Hof der Metamorphosen, “Courtyard of the Metamorphoses.”" - ATLAS_OBSCURA

The place is filled with tourists. Apart from the art on the walls, you'll find a few interesting shops. We had a takeaway coffee at a small café in the middle of the courtyard that also sells soups and other lunch dishes. On the main streets are many restaurants and bars with affordable prices compared to the city center.

It's a cute passage to walk through when exploring Dresden ' Neustadt. Some interesting stores, ice cream cafe. Some buildings have art on the walls, some have sculptures. The Africa themed building is very attractive and artistic. All in all , if you don't expect much, you won't be disappointed.

If you have no other specific place to visit and in Dresden for long stay, visit this place. I suggest not to visit if you are in Dresden for a day or two. There differently decorated buildings. Good for instaworthy photos.

This passage is for the creative minds. The ground is not leveled, the walls are all colourful and there are so many cute shops near by. Just walk around and let the mind wander.

"It’s a little weird at first, but when you consider the whole neighborhood as an artistic manifestation, it becomes more acceptable. The graffiti and sculpted facades simultaneously present both vandalism and tourist attractions."

Nice area but in the winter time there are no coffee shops but only worths to visit for the graffiti and some clothes shops and etc which are open.

Not too impressed, I have to say. Two colourful houses that's about it. The shops are quite trashy and overpriced because it is mostly hippie stuff. The neighbourhood reflects this "Kiez" style, go vegan posters everywhere, graffiti, stickers, really dirty and neglected vibe. Beautiful art nouveau houses and hallways are vandalised. Students and Ökos live here. In Berlin this would be hyped to oblivion. In Dresden, not sure if this fits the local vibe. If you value art, culture and a touch of sophistication you should avoid this place at all costs.
