Absolutely delightful! An absolutely stunning regular collection of paintings: Picasso, Kandinsky, Van Gogh, and Mondrian among others! We discovered Jacoba van Heemskerck! And what a beauty the "Grand Dessert" exhibition is! Incredibly beautiful porcelain! And then we came across the "Titanic" exhibition! Gorgeous dresses from the era of the film of the same name! What fine work, it turns out, was done by Hollywood! And, what's more, the exhibition includes costumes from the era of the actual events of the film!

It definitely is a one-of-a-kind museum. We enjoyed the visit through and through. The desserts exhibition is sweet and lovely. The modern art floor is novel and mischievous at times. The building itself is distinctively “Mondrian”. The underground floor is particularly good which module I have never experienced earlier in other museums. It is so well designed that it managed to hold the attention of both adults and children from beginning to the end, thus serves the purpose of educating the mass audience some rudimentary knowledge of modern art. I think four hours is needed.

Google
What a sight. Worthwhile seeing on its own. Interesting special and regular exhibitions. van Gogh, Monet, Mondrian, Kirchner, Kandinsky, Picasso, Schiele and many more to be seen. But only refering to those exceptional artists does not do justice to so many others.

Google
Amazing place! I habe not noticed how the 4 hours passed by. Mondrian collection is stunning! I have seen works I've never suspected to come from Mondrian. Temporary exhibitions are amazing. The museum was not very crowded. I bought tickets in the museum, there was no queue. I have not made it to see everything in 4 hours and I will definitely come back 🥰

The museum is one of Europe’s leading museums for modern art and design. Founded in 1866 and renamed in 2019, it is housed in a striking building designed by H.P. Berlage and completed in 1935. Its collection of more than 165,000 works spans painting, decorative arts, fashion, music, prints, ceramics, and silver. The museum is especially famous for holding the world’s largest collection of Piet Mondrian’s works.

It was only in October 2023 when I became aware that Piet Mondrian was Dutch and the Kunstmuseum Den Haag holds the largest collection of his work. I requested a friend to bring me to the museum before flying back to Manila. It turned out to be one of the best pre-departure activities I ever had. The museum opened my eyes to the evolution of Mondrian's work, especially from his landscapes to his abstracts. Earthly colour schemes were replaced by the vibrant colours of his later works. The museum is not overwhelming as it is just the right size, which enables the museum goer to admire the collection without hurrying to get to the other areas. It also helps that they have a nice Grand Cafe, which serves light snacks. The cafe is a work of art by itself. Lastly, I was lucky that during my visit they had a special exhibition of Hilma af Klint's The Ten Largest,  a group of works comprising ten 10,76 x 7,87 ft, egg tempera paintings. It was a rare moment for me as the exhibit is being toured in different museums all over the world and is part of the recently concluded exhibition in The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (March 4 – June 15, 2025). Highly recommended for art lovers and visitors in The Hague. #Museum #TheHague #Netherlands #PietMondrian #Mondrian #WhatToDoInTheHague #DutchMuseum

Google
A big public museum in the World Forum neighborhood. It has a beautiful permanent collection by Dutch and international artists. Plus, I had the opportunity to visit two temporary exhibitions. Both exhibitions were very well designed. The museum staff was very kind and helpful. I enjoyed the visit very much. Congratulations to the museum.

Google
An absolutely not to be missed museum. Architecturally a very significant building. The traveling exhibit we saw on the history of Paris was exceptional. The museum has a great permanent collection.

Yelp
We went to see the excellent Escher exhibit. Lots of works and lots of explanatory material. Museum fatigue sent it after about an hour. Many other exhibits that we did not see. I would say that you could easily visit here 4 times a year. Will you be in town that long? The building itself is a work of 1935 art. €32 for two

Yelp
This year marks a century (1917-2017) of the Dutch art movement De Stijl. Since my wife is a fan of Mondrian, we crossed the pond to pay homage and Gemeentemuseum was one of our must-stops during this trip. The facility didn't strike me as stupendous but I quite liked its simplicity. It was once a German warehouse during WWII. The reflecting ponds on both sides of the entry way provide a serene setting. There are free lockers and a coat-check service. The gift shop and the cafe can be found on the ground level. If you are into modern art, this is the right place. The gallery houses great pieces from famous Dutch and international artists such as Mondrian, van Doesburg, Picasso and Monet. Some contemporary creations are also on display. Apart from the major artworks in neo-plasticism and such, on this well-timed visit, they had also curated an immense collection from Givenchy titled "To Audrey with Love." Even though I am completely out of my element when it comes to haute couture, I have heard of the celebrated fashion designer and have seen many of Audrey Hepburn's films. These dresses were beautifully handcrafted and reminded me of the movie scenes. Frequent ooh's and aah's from museum guests filled the halls. This was a rather pleasant visit and we were glad to have caught the temporary exhibition. Time just slipped away before we realized we had spent the afternoon in here.

Yelp
I spent a very pleasant American Thanksgiving Day enjoying awesome works of Art at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag ,instead of eating lots of turkey and pumpkin pie.. Favorite 19th Century Paintings and very early 20th Century Paintings were Johannes Weissenbruch's"Trek Vliet---(Hague School)",Joseph Retsima's"Paul Gabriel Painting"(Hague School),Claude Monet's"Quai Du Louvre"and"Fishing Nets,Pourville"(marvelous French Impressionism),Theo Van Rhysellberghe's"View of Scheldt""(quality Pointillism),and Vincent Van Gogh's"Garden of Arles". Later 20th Century Paintings that especially fascinated me were August Macke's"3 Girls With Yellow Hats"(German Expressionism),Alexei Jawlensky's"Landscape With Obersdorf",Jan Slytyjers("Family of Painter",Edvard Munch's"Dorp Street",and Francis Bacon's"Paralytic Child in Air".I also savored fine creations by Louise Bourgeise("Cell XXVi"),Bruce Nauman("Carousel"),and Marcus Lupertz("Bust of Mozart"). The Temporary Nicole Eisenman exhibit was fantastic, especially her"On Edge of Abyss","Night of Cheer Spray of Bullets",and"Sleeping Woman".Nicole Eisenman is a Contemporary Artist born in France, living in New York. I also liked the temporary exhibit of paintings by Josef Albers and the textile creations of his wife,Anni .Josef Albers' works depict squares and rectangles very frequently.

Yelp
Just a heads-up to avoid confusion: either today (Oct.11) or last week, Gemeentemuseum officially changed its name to Kunstmuseum (Art Museum) Den Haag. Some maps show only the old name, some only the new. Their website has been updated to the new name. Yelp could help by including both names on this page or at least, recognizing the new name exists ( it currently returns no search results on Yelp).

Yelp
Great big museum which follows the great Dutch tradition for good musea. More than one expositions going on at the same time with one ticket entry. Museum kaart makes it "free". Great covered "indoor" bar and restaurant. Average food. The building is not brand new but really nice. Well connected to central station via bus or tram.

Yelp
This is a surprising gem in Den Haag! The museum houses mostly modern art, and is most well-known for its collection of Mondrian work. There are informative videos and displays that showcase/explain the history of the movement and the intent of the art. There is also a gorgeous Delft Blue collection. The basement also hosts the "Wonder Kamers" which is an interactive exhibit that allows you to get a more hands-on approach to learning. It is great for adults and kids! Basically you are given the task of making your own "exhibit" by earning points from various activities, such as recreating artwork, dancing, or even a cat walk. At the end, you can spend your points to "purchase" artwork for your exhibit and there is a mini-museum in the center where you can see a digital version of it! TIP: Pay attention to what the tablet guide is telling you!!! Overall, the museum has excellent explanations in English and engaging exhibits that appeal to everyone.

Yelp
If you are a museum goer and in the Hague this one is worth a stop. Its got a lot of modern, and a lot of Mondrian. There is a hands on section here that is great fun. Like most museums in the Netherlands, this one is not too big so its fun and easy for a morning or afternoon stop. I believe its on the "Museumkaart" list too. http://www.museumkaart.nl 1200

Yelp
This museum flies under the radar, for some reason, but is well worth your time. It's known particularly for its collection of Mondrian's work (including the iconic "Victory Boogie Woogie"), but it features a lot of modern art, in addition to collections of fashion, music, prints, and period rooms. At the urging of an enthusiastic and knowledgeable docent on the ground level, we saw special exhibits that were unusual and fascinating: one about Mondrian and "De Stijl," one about Hans van Bentem (whose chandeliers in the Escher museum make a nice counterpoint), and one of highlights from the temporarily closed Mauritshuis. The Gemeentemuseum is a little out of the way, but it's eclectic and interesting enough to make a special trip. I'd love to come back and explore more.

Yelp
Best museum of Den Haag , interesting permanent collection and always something new . the cafe in the courtyard is well worth visiting . interesting building by Berlage . the 2 museums next door are not at all worth visting , waste of time ! Another good tip is to walk to the shopping area of the Frederikstraat , a number of non standard shops .

Yelp
Loved the museum but the customer service experience was truly awful. I bought a museum card several days ago. I have been to 3 museums without any trouble. The guy today stopped me from going in because my card was missing some sort of sticker. Fortunately, my Dutch friend marched us right over to the ticket counter and the nice lady issued me a ticket. When I showed nasty man my ticket, he still wasn't happy about letting me in. He was a total idiot about this whole thing. It was not necessary. The card scanned with or without the sticker. He just decided to give an American a hard time. Shame on him. Blessings to the nice lady who "fixed" the issue that wasn't even broken. I run a museum in California, and I would fire anyone on my staff who treated a customer so badly.
