"The former seat of the Parliament of North Rhine–Westphalia, this grand neo-Renaissance building is known for its cutting-edge art exhibitions. Originally designed by architect Julius Raschdorff and renovated by Munich firm Kiessler & Partner (who added the eye-catching domed roof composed of almost 2,000 sheets of glass), the venue is part of the greater Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen collection, but focuses specifically on works created after the 1980s. As a result, visitors can expect to find large-scale film and video installations, site-specific works, and shows by contemporary heavy hitters like Bill Viola, Nam June Paik, and Andreas Gursky, shown on a rotating basis across the building’s four connected wings. If you visit the museum with kids, be sure to check out the fun, interactive In Orbit installation by Tomás Saraceno."

I liked the place a lot: the exhibitions and especially the architectural style. What was concerning is the fact that the hall guards were not friendly and I felt uncomfortable by walking from one hall to another one It felt like I am did something wrong even though I didn’t do. Because of that I have mixed feelings

Beautiful museum located in a nice park. -1 floor always has some interesting temporary exhibition. Great collection in general. Love to visit once a while for new stuff.

This was an extremely uncomfortable and disappointing experience. From the moment we entered the museum, we — two Black men — were constantly followed and closely watched by security. Every single room we went into, security appeared and stayed near us without any clear reason. This did not feel like general security measures, but like targeted surveillance. Other visitors were able to move freely, while we were repeatedly monitored. It made it impossible to enjoy the museum in a relaxed way. It is very hard not to conclude that this treatment was based on our skin color. This is deeply upsetting, especially in a cultural institution that should promote openness, inclusion, and understanding. A museum should be a welcoming and safe space for everyone. Unfortunately, this was not our experience. Until there is a serious change in how visitors are treated, I cannot recommend this museum.

Stunning building and setting. You are tied to the installations and unfortunately this in place when we visited didn’t fit our brief. We only just missed the ‘climbing on the roof’ which was incredibly well received. There is some lovely works but not all matched the beautiful setting. It also wasn’t very child friendly. We travelled here using the Düsseldorf card (purchased from the tourist office - which includes lots of attractions and all travel and is HIGHLY recommended).

Nice museum. Nice environment. Share my favorite painting here, the style is very special. I asked chatgpt to repaint the Battle of Alexander at Issus (the fourth picture) in this style (the first three pictures). In terms of real creation, AI is still far behind humans.

This place is incredible not only because of that fun part where you go to the upper floor and walk on a metal metal mesh, but because of all the works of art you'll find here. This museum is super big, make sure to come with enough time to see everything.

Amazing building with impressive design. Happy to see Issac Julien collection. Roof top trip was fun and not too crowded on a weekend! Would definitely visit again for other exhibitions in future!

The space in and around K21 is stunning. Each window that looks onto the atrium frames a different vista of layers of architectural elements. Different styles of stairways make it fun just to go up and down and around. Classic architectural elements are reinterpreted with modern building materials. The place invites you to dwell upon the traditions that modern art stems out of as well as the breakaways and breakthroughs and the rebels of our own times.
