They are gaining a lot of popularity so the store was full and crowded even just after opening, but the staff handled all the customers with patience and professionalism. There is a bit of a wait to get served and pay but nothing unbearable and it's all worth it anyway. As for the watches, great selection and craftsmanship without the outlandish price tag. Watches feel premium and novel - really has that distinct vintage look and feel. Very happy with the experience and purchased product. Highly recommend to get your very own time piece of Kyoto on your wrist to take wherever you go.

I've been a follower of Kenji's brand for a few years at this point and finally had the opportunity to visit the store within Kyoto. I was not disappointed, this is a wonderful independent brand with beautiful watches. I came to purchase a watch for myself and father. Generally, we wear 40mm watches so the smaller 35-38mm sizing of their watches felt unconventional and ‘too small’ at first. However, credit to the staff, after speaking with them and really taking time with the watches on my wrist, I quickly fell in love. The staff was kind, respectful, and really valued you picking your favorite choice. Individuals came in trying multiple bands, multiple watches, but never did the staff attempt to rush them and I greatly appreciated that. If you have been interested in this brand and find yourself in Japan, pricing is much better in store than online so I recommend stopping inside. Its a watch I will treasure and attach to my trip. I will have to come back for the ‘Sombrero’! One minor complaint, it’s an independent brand and so I do understand, however only one year of warranty feels just a bit too short.

Honestly one of the best shopping experiences I had in Kyoto. Everyone there spoke English fluently, which made everything super easy and welcoming. The vibe was chill and creative, and you can tell the brand has a lot of passion behind it. I really hope they keep growing—they deserve it. And yeah, it’s way cheaper to buy in-store than online. If you’re in town, definitely swing by.

I’ve been eyeing the Royal Smith online, but I thought I’d wait until my Kyoto trip to buy. I’m happy I did because it was a much more memorable experience. Eddie was very helpful with fluent English in explaining all the details of the watch and bands. I was so impressed I left with two watches (Royal Smith 90-006 and the green dial Old Smith 90-002). And the best feature of all is they make your watch on the spot and ask you to pick it up! Definitely one of those watches that looks way better in person than it does online.

Great place to get customized watch in Kyoto! Selections were not many but definitely classy. Staffs also speak good english. We waited around 10mins (payment + waiting time to get the watch) 😱

Great service from the nice and welcoming staff. They happily helped me try every strap and combination i wanted but with no rush of trying to just sell. Instead they made sure I took my time until I made my decision. The store is small but has a great layout with many samples. It got crowded quick but the staff made a really good job of helping everyone and kept the atmosphere calm and welcoming. The watches are absolutely amazing in person, the designs and colours are very tasteful. Cases, dials, straps, there’s truly something for everyone. I ended up going for the Royal Smith 90-006 in silver with the creme waffle dial. I never get tired of watching that dial, such a beautiful piece. The ultimate souvenir from Kyoto. A great memory from the country, city and the amazing people.

During my trip to Kyoto June, 23rd 2023, I decided to visit the Kuoe store in person. I’d heard wonderful things about the brand, and I thought it would be the perfect souvenir to bring back home. The store was located in a charming part of Kyoto, blending modern aesthetics with traditional Japanese design. As I stepped inside, I was immediately greeted by a warm and friendly staff member who made me feel welcome. Despite my limited Japanese, they were incredibly accommodating, switching effortlessly to English to ensure I felt comfortable. The watch collection itself was stunning—a perfect blend of classic and modern design. You could feel the craftsmanship in every detail, from the sturdy leather strap to the smooth movement of the hands. What stood out the most was their genuine hospitality. They didn’t rush me or pressure me into making a purchase. Instead, they encouraged me to take my time, try on different models, and find the one that truly resonated with me. Owning my Kuoe watch now feels even more special because of the experience I had in Kyoto. It’s not just a watch—it’s a reminder of the kindness, warmth, and attention to detail that made the entire experience unforgettable.
