Enormous rooms and the most comfortable beds we had in Japan. The in room onsen had spectacular views across the bay. And the bathroom even had 2 hairdryers! Staff were so friendly and helpful, if I could given them 6 stars I would. The reception area is immense and the upstairs facilities are huge too. There is a gift shop kids activity area and a foot spa with fish that eat your dead skin at reception. The place is a little old and you can see how splendid it used to be. And it is a little out of the way. But overall a great stay.

We booked a Traditional-Zimmer (Japanese, Central Bldg, Room Only). Shuttle bus for the beach was not available despite the fact that it was written on Hotels.com. We were not informed proactively. They told us to use the bus or taxi instead (at our charge). We went for the bus close to the hotel, it never came… The building is old stylish and the smells/perfumes in the commun parts are not enjoyable. Almost all services are charged separately (ping pong, swimming pool …) and some have to be booked in advance (incl. swimming pool). You need a swimming cap for the swimming pool. They charge the use of the Onsen even if you dont use it. The Onsen is seperated man/woman and is naked. Many signs are only in Japanese. We were able to communicate with the staff in English. Some speak better than others. Dogs are accepted, we could hear some barking from our bedroom. The first night was quite silent but on the second night, we could hear some people scream/laugh around midnight. On the positive side, the room was spacious, the view was nice. Amenities were provided. There is a 7 eleven only few minutes away by foot. It is not far from the train station, when it’s not too warm, you can go by foot. Taxi to/from the train station is about 1000yen one way. They provide a little carrier for luggage, let us 🚿 after Check-out and called a taxi We went to Kujuppama Beach by taxi. A very nice small beach accessible from the road by a short but very steep road. We also went to Nabetahama Beach by bus (from the train station). Also a nice small beach. I would recommend going to the tourism office next to the train station, they have lots of propositions for activities.

Lovely hotel. The Japanese traditional rooms with onsen were amazing! The staff were so helpful and kind. We were able to watch the Black Ship Festival fireworks from our balcony. Easy walk or cheap taxi from the station. We would definitely stay here again the next time come. Highly recommend!

I think because of low season, hotel is quite empty. Therefore it’s very comfort environment and makes you feel so relax. It’s at a walkable distance to restaurant area and Shimoda station. Even taking a taxi with luggage it only takes 3-5 mins from station. Staffs are very nice and helpful. Please aware that there’ll be no bed in a tatami room. As you can see they pair with something called 布団 which is also one of Japan’s tradition. I’d say this is even better than bed and you will feel so relax. Our room has private hot spring so we didn’t use the public one. Lastly, shops around close early so please enjoy your relax night and don’t expect much night activities around.

For anyone with a modicum of financial sense or a desire for fair value, STAY AWAY! From the moment you even consider booking, prepare for sticker shock that will make your eyes water. The room rates are not just high; they are criminally exorbitant, easily double or triple what any comparable (and likely superior) establishment in the area would charge. But the financial assault doesn't end there. Every single "amenity" or service comes with an astronomical hidden fee, designed to nickel-and-dime you into destitution. What's worse than the outrageous prices is the appalling lack of cleanliness. The rooms are not just unremarkable; they are visibly dirty, often showing signs of neglect, dust, and grime that should never be present in a paying establishment, let alone one charging such exorbitant rates. This blatant disregard for hygiene further compounds the feeling of being ripped off. Want a bottle of water? Prepare to pay more than you would for a gourmet meal. It's clear that Kurofune Hotel's management's sole focus is to extract every last penny from guests, with absolutely no regard for value, comfort, or a positive experience. The service, if you can even get it, feels grudging and certainly not worth the fortune you've already paid for a dirty room. Save your hard-earned money. There are countless better hotels out there that offer genuine hospitality, fair pricing, and, crucially, a clean environment. Kurofune Hotel is a financial black hole that will leave you feeling ripped off, utterly disgusted, and probably needing a good shower. Do yourself a massive favor and book elsewhere.

I brought my parents here since they are visiting me in Japan. I live in Tokyo but it was my first time coming to Izu. We stayed in one of the newer rooms and opted for meals at the hotel since the parking comes free with this option. The hotel itself is very Shōwa era so if you are interested in this style you will enjoy it. The banquet hall where meals are served is spacious and very modern. The meals were great quality and I had a really deep sleep. The staff are very friendly and I think some may speak English (I just spoke in Japanese so wasn’t something I needed/checked). I would definitely recommend for people who come to Shimoda. It’s a short drive/walk into town and Perry’s Road so it’s a good location too.

Terrible staff. Honestly thought it was going be a nice calm room check in but staff was being rude and started asking questions and thought that was that. The rooms were disgusting, Mole everywhere, dust every where, room wasn’t worth what it was priced at. Do not come here and avoid if possible!!!

Please note there is no shower in standard room we had to pay $30 per person per day to upgrade to room with shower. Shower wasnt hot and it took over 10 minutes to get to warm. They should specify this on booking platform. Very old run down hotel with a creepy vibe. Good if you looking into historic landmark. Coin Laundry extremely expensive , costing us $30 for one cycle wash and dry. Room really nice and but because we paid for upgrade. Location right on the bay, free parking. Everything else including ice , you have to pay.
