We arrived in Kagoshima late in the evening and, naturally, went hunting for a place to try the city’s famed pork. Kurokatsutei in Tenmonkan was our pick for dinner — and it absolutely hit the spot. Despite the hour, we were seated pretty quickly. The place had a relaxed, homely feel, perfect for winding down after a long day. We went straight for the signature tonkatsu — and it didn’t disappoint. The pork cutlet was fried to crispy perfection with a light breadcrumb coating, while the meat inside was juicy and full of flavor. The tangy tonkatsu sauce paired so well with the richness of the pork — it really lifted the whole dish. We also ordered the grilled meat skewers, and those were a pleasant surprise. Charred just right and seasoned to bring out the natural sweetness of the pork, they added a nice contrast to the fried dishes. If you’re in Kagoshima and craving pork done right — both fried and grilled — this place is definitely worth a stop.

I don’t really mind if the service at a tonkatsu restaurant isn’t great. The service here wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t particularly good either. What really matters is the taste of the tonkatsu, but unfortunately, the food was far below my expectations.

We visited this restaurant around 7-8 PM and were seated immediately without any wait. We ordered a fried meat platter and a pork skewer platter, which turned out to be excellent choices. The fried shrimp was particularly delicious, standing out as a highlight of the meal. The pork cutlet was impressively juicy and flavorful. From the skewer platter, the pork meat skewers were aromatic and tasty, while the pork intestine skewers were also a delightful surprise. The only item that didn't quite meet our preferences was the pork liver skewer. We found the liver slices a bit too thick for our liking. Overall, it was a satisfying dining experience with a variety of well-prepared meat dishes. The restaurant offered a pleasant atmosphere with no waiting time during the evening hours. It's a great spot for meat lovers looking for a diverse selection of fried and grilled options.

I went there alone in late July around 6pm. The staff sat me down right away and were really friendly, even though I barely speak Japanese. It wasn't a problem though. I just pointed at what I wanted on the menu. I got a set with two black pork cutlets that came out super fast. The outside was really crispy but the pork inside was so tender. It wasn't greasy at all and didn't have that gross oily taste you sometimes get. It was especially good with just salt. You could really taste how different this pork was from regular pork. The sesame grinding thing was pretty fun too, and it goes really well with the pork. The pork roll was incredible. It was tender and a little sweet, and you could really taste the natural pork flavor.

must visit place for their kurobuta meat! Kagoshima is well-known for their Kurobuta and I had to try it. I came across this place via online search and decided to make reservation. I went for lunch on weekdays at 11:30am and there was no queue, however when I left (around 1230pm) there were people waiting for tables. It is within a walkable distance from Tenmonkan area. I ordered the Kurokatsu-Tei set, which comes rice, cabbages, and soup. During lunch, rice and cabbage is refillable. If you would like more soup, there will be a small extra charge. I also recommend you to try their minced kurobuta fried. You must eat it while it’s hot. The meat is crispy outside yet very juicy inside. Overall, I had a great meal!

Ordered the loin cutlet set meal (黒豚ロースカツ定食). There was a lot of variety and sides. The pork cutlet was really delicious and the tonjiru also tasted really good. The service was also pretty fast. It took about 10 mins for 5 teishokus to come out.

To simply put it, we love pork, this place can’t be missed if you are in Kagoshima, staff were friendly, we had the deep fried version, the teppanyaki version and shabu shabu version. Honestly one of the best pork places we ever been to, can’t be happier
