On the Grid : Kurtosh Café

"This traditional Hungarian pastry house will leave you wanting to try everything. Don’t stress, they have slabs of cake which are sold on weight so who’s to say you need to refrain? Famous for its chimney cake, a perfect harmony of caramelised crispy flaky outer with soft inner walls, the cylindrical yeast pastry is sold as a street snack from carts all over Hungary. Make sure you go for the one rolled in cinnamon. The tiramisu is also outstanding." - Born & Raised

Absolutely love this place! The atmosphere at Kürtősh is warm and inviting — perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying some quiet time. They also have a great selection of cakes and pastries by weight, which is such a fun and unique concept. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend for anyone with a sweet tooth or looking for a cozy café experience ~

I come here like twice a week because of their matcha latte and kurtosh. The matcha is so good, not too sweet, and actually tastes like matcha. Their kurtosh is always fresh and warm, with the perfect crunch. It’s kinda addictive. I also tried some cakes and highly recommend tiramisu and chocolates cake. Staff are always nice and chill. The place feels cozy and there’s a big table where you can sit with friends or study for a bit. It just has a really comforting vibe. Honestly one of my fave spots around here.

The kurtosh is amazing - so fresh, perfect texture and delicious flavour. The other cakes are quite good for the most part, but very expensive for what you get. It’s great you can try a variety since it’s by weight.

Kurtosh is delicious here but cakes are quite expensive. I have eaten more creamier cheescakes elsewhere at a more reasonable price. So quite disappointing. Price of cake slabs are for single serves. There are no party size prices for larger size slabs. The guy said it will be around $180 for a square slab not bigger than a 6inch cake After deciding to buy a single serve. The old asian lady was rude to the young staff, when the young girl just wanted to confirm the size I wanted to buy. The old lady said dont ask just give, referring to the extra small piece that was attached to the size I asked for. I would have said to add it anyway but this left the young staff feeling awful. This just reflects the poor management and service of this place.

25/1/25 - 2.5 stars To say Crows Nest has limited dessert options would be an understatement, thus, we were essentially forced to try here. This branch of a pretty successful Hungarian dessert chain is definitely very popular and was quite crowded even in the late evening. Normally I'd take being crowded as a good sign, but, service and crowd management here is terrible. There is no clear signage on how to queue and, even after forming a line behind other patrons and waiting 30 minutes, the male staff member (there was only one) told us to go to the back of the line after making it to the front and skipped us to serve people behind. Workflow definitely needs to be better optimized as each customer takes at least 10 minutes to serve since every cake is served by weight so the servers have to guess how much to cut then weigh and adjust. Terribly inefficient. The chimney cakes are definitely the best option here as they are made to order, but, also can take quite a long time to be served (took another 30mins for us). Overall, the service and customer experience is bad. The cakes are expensive and not very good. The only saving grace is the chimney cakes which are actually quite nice and mostly worth the price. Chocolate babka: C, 5/10. Dry and chewy. Not enjoyable at all Biscoff cheesecake: B, 6/10. Topping was too much like whipped cream. Not enough substance Duo mousse: A, 7/10

Looking for a delicious and budget-friendly breakfast option? ☀️Kurtosh’s new brekkie menu has you covered! Their dishes are hearty and full of flavour without breaking the bank. 🤩 My top pick is the Smashed Avocado 🥑, served on a toasted bagel with creamy goat cheese, cherry🍅 , and a sprinkle of dukkha, it’s perfectly fresh and satisfying. 🍭For dessert (or breakfast dessert, why not?), you can’t go wrong with their Pistachio Kurtosh, generously topped with crunchy pistachios and loaded with rich, nutty flavour. 🌰 Stop by Kurtosh to kickstart your morning with good vibes and great food!

It is a great place to try a bit of everything. I loved their black forest cake. I asked for 70g of each flavor. Was perfect amount of sweets for the afternoon. Almond flat white was also good!
