⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Rejuvenating Stay with Exceptional Hospitality My stay at this Ryokan was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, the beautiful environment set a peaceful tone for the whole trip. It is perfectly situated—near the bus terminal, making it very easy to access without a car, yet it feels secluded and serene. The highlight, of course, was the great onsen. The water was perfect, and the bath area was relaxing and well-maintained. I must also commend the staff. They were friendly, responsible, and professional, anticipating our needs before we even asked. We started our mornings with a hearty breakfast—a delicious spread of local dishes that gave us plenty of energy for the day. If you are looking for a mix of convenience and traditional comfort, this is the place.

My son and I spent 4 nights at Onsen Boun during July 2025 as his middle school graduation present. I've been to Kusatsu 3 times in the past, each time staying at a different hotel. And I'm very glad we chose Onsen Boun this time. It is a very quiet, spacious, and elegant ryokan. The hot spring quality is undeniably superb (which is my top one priority). But what impressed me the most is our room. I don't know what it was about this rather simple-looking room, but it was just so comfortable. It was quiet, clean, and felt very secluded with unbelievable privacy. During our four night here, we never met anyone or heard anything from above, below, or next to us. It was such a great experience my son asked me if we can come back to Kusatsu, to this specific hotel from now on - like he doesn't even want to visit other hot springs. He even liked the breakfast they served and finished everything. Overall we loved this hotel and would like express our gratitude to all the staff who worked there.

Other reviews are right. The service is inconsistent, food is underwhelming, and does not feel like a $500 to $700 per 2 adult price. To start the hotel entrance is on a slope from parking lot. There is no one staffed to help with luggage while raining. The guy with glasses running the front desk (manager?) is impatient and stuck up. I was trying to explain my concern while check in and he immediately jump to Google Translate without explaining in Japanese. Worst of all he doesn’t even know what to speak to the translation. I feel like being treated with the ‘foreigner’ stereotypes behavior. The girl helping us explaining the room is wonderful. The spa person is also wonderful. The biggest issue is the food. Outside of beef sukiyaki, everything texture and taste is plain. As a whole Kusatsu Onsen hotels are overpriced due to lots of visitors. I would recommend going to other near by hot springs like Ikaho Onsen which would offer better value.

Beautiful, great service, super clean & comfortable hotel which sets it's standard really high. Everything was superb from the lobby to the room to the restaurants, and to the onsen. Quality meals are served with their hearts & the quality is too much for me. Our room was really huge. There are 3 different onsen rooms with indoor & outdoor pools. However, the outdoor pools do not give you any views since they bamboo-fenced the surrounding. Parking is free and it is only 2 mins walk down the slope to reach Kusatsu town centre. A minimum 2N stay is recommended.

Such a flawless experience for osen and meals. Osen water is No.1 quality. The dinner and breakfast just AMAZING! All the food are from local ingredients. They are not only healthy and tasty, but also they are just like an art piece that made by the chef. The beds are just perfect and so comfy. The free pick up and drop off from bus terminal is the life saver. Kudos to the team and thank you so much for this amazing hospitality. We had a wonderful time in hear and hoping to come back to Kusatsu again with this hotel!

Beautiful Ryokan with exceptional service and food. We stayed for one night and purchase the wagyu shabu shabu set. All the food and ingredients are fresh and tastes amazing, the staff spoke a bit of English but it was enough. The onsen was amazing and the outdoor area were spectacular. Different baths rotates between men and women depending on the time of day, and they have two(?) different natural onsen source. Would definitely come here again for the hot spring!!!

We stayed here for only one night, but the experience was great. This onsen place is amazing—very relaxing, with beautifully designed interiors. All the staff were polite and welcoming. They served a great meal and even provided a return shuttle van to the nearby bus interchange. They helped us with our baggage and made sure everything was well taken care of.

A but uphill and you will find the nice ryokan. Clean and excellent service, the room is nice and the onsen is good. Open air onsen is not scenery as expected. Breakfast is delicious. If I go to Kusatsu onsen again, it will be my first choice.
