A lovely mountain-top resort in Norway, but hardly a hotel (as described on booking). It’s a hostel with a shared bathroom and catering only serves what’s being prepared. ||One is expected to make its own beds from the plastic-wrapped packages available in the room. ||It’s a lovely site and the stay was pleasant. But I find it hard to qualify this as a hotel as booking described it.

Beautiful mountain-resort, but very primitive. Should not be classified as a hotel on booking, but rather as a hostel.

A truly idyllic Norwegian wilderness -near the Hardangervidda Park. Ski hire very reasonable. Accommodation in Arney Hus cosy but warm, comfortable- and a sauna! Meals in main lodge were homely , filling and served with a smile. Packed lunch fillings varied. Vegetarian options if ordered. Staff very helpful. Evenings by fire after a hard day on trails were bliss. View from main room of Gaustatoppen spectacular- when you could see it. It snowed a lot- one day of sun! Do take time to drive to the Vemork museum - 30mins- to learn how the heavy water factory was destroyed by heroic Norwegian commandos in 1943. All in all a great value holiday. Posh it ain’t. But it was homely and it felt properly Norwegian.

Coming from the UK, we'd never really come across the 'Fjellstue' concept - it's somewhere between a full hotel, and a hostel. It's a bit like a 'budget flights' hotel, but with out the constant upselling you get from the airlines. (Also trying to compare it to budget airlines is slightly demeaning to the Fjellstue, but it's the best analogy I could make) We'd come to the site from a hostel in Oslo, which really was a very good hostel, but Kvitavatn was very much more a hotel experience during our stay. Like the hostel, you have to make your own beds with the bedding provided by them (for hygiene reasons), but that was no great issue - you're not paying hotel prices either. The rooms were comfortable - We loved being in one of the cabins, but would have happily stayed in any of the rooms seen there. Water was hot, and the showers powerful enough to have a good go at aching muscles at the end of a day. Didn't find a bath on site, but that wasn't an issue for us. I noted that some of the older reviews from a couple of years ago complained about the food, but from our experience the site has raised their game. While the evening meals are set menu, the portions are good and the food itself really good. I didn't see any evidence of reuse or reheated food as the site had been accused of. The breakfast buffet also has bags provided to allow you to do a packed lunch at the same time, which was a touch I really appreciated! The main building looks out over the valley towards Gaustatoppen.. which is an amazing, ever changing view.. we could have watched it for hours. Overall we were very happy with our stay, and hope to return another year.

Travelled with 50+ teenagers on a 3 day trip. The Danish hosts made us feel welcome, served great food and had patience with us (it did get a bit noisy). Rooms were nice and the common areas were new and in simple Nordic design - very pleasant. The view towards Gaustadtoppen is amazing! Wifi, parking, a small kiosk, sauna and you can go for a swim in the lake! I will come back to this place!

Amazing place, lovely environment with a lot of spirit. Open and talkative visitors and personell. Can only recommend visiting. It's not a hotel, it feels more like a home placed in amazing Norwegian nature with a great view of Gaustatoppen. The surrounding area is perfect for cross-country and great for alpine as well.|

We had a shared bathroom room for a night. Neighbours were very noisy, however it's a wooden house. Wiew and coffee were fantastic. Wish I would go back soon.

You have to pay for the beauty of this country and that is by no means a complaint. I wanted to visit Rjukan to visit the museum which remembers the 'Heroes of Telemark' but couldn't afford much. ||||I had never stayed in a hostel before but I am glad I decided to spend the night here. As you would expect of this remarkable country, nature is on your doorstep. There are 21 rooms some with a shower / wc and there is a large kitchen and dining room. Although not sharing I had a double room which was clean and typically Scandinavian, and while my particular accommodation didn't have a w.c / shower there was one conveniently opposite the corridor.||||I thoroughly recommend a stay here (remember we are talking about a hostel and not a hotel) whether you have tried hostels before or not, whether you are a family with children or not. As you would expect of this child friendly country there are family rooms.
