KWILA was an awesome find in Surry Hills! Ed my barista was friendly, knowledgeable, charismatic and a brilliant asset to the coffee community. He walked me through the different beans on offer with serving suggestions for both the blend and the single Origin and expertly crafted both the latte and the espresso. He offered me some great suggestions for other specialty coffee shops around the area. Thank you Ed.

Hidden gem in an alleyway for specialty coffee. SOE, batch brew and hand filter are all nicely executed, not to mention mill coffees. Staff is friendly and passionate about coffee. If you have any questions about coffee and beans, don’t be shy to ask for advice. This coffee shop offers a wide range of high quality specialty coffee beans to bring home as well.

Recently came from Melbourne to Sydney and decided to try out some local cafes. Great vibes and coffee. Was served by Michelle and she was lovely to talk to. Makes great coffee too! Highly recommend.

OMG, this cafe truly churns out the best coffee in Sydney!!! I discovered it through google reviews on best coffee near me, I dided when I had my first sip of 3/4 latte - couldn't have enough, I ended up ordering another! The beans are cultivated in the PNG Highlands where one of the partners is from as seen by melanesian art scattered throughoutthe cafe. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff.

I’m a regular customer at Kwila, and I come here pretty often. Lately, though, the vibe feels different. I’m not sure if they changed the whole team or what, but it just feels a bit off, not as cozy or friendly as before. The guy with the cap, who I think might be the manager, always looks annoyed and not welcoming at all. His resting face is super serious. The coffee is still really good.

Kwila is a small cafe in the backstreets of Surry hills. They are an independent small batch roasting company who source their products in Papua New Guinea. Their perspective ethical is to source from ecologically & socially focused coffee producers.  They have milk based, espresso and batch brew coffee which had a lovely flavour to it. They also sell plenty of pastries, cookies, and food to dine in as well. I enjoyed a savoury muffin. The space has a nice aesthetic with exposed brick walls, and a cool geometric mural on the wall. Service is welcoming and efficient.

The guys here are so nice and really helpful. The great drinks and super cool interior helps as well. If you're in the area stop by. Not expensive and they use great quality foods and ingredients in all their food and drinks.

Ok, so the small cafes keep opening and opening all over Sydney. You know, the cafes with small menus and limited seating. You come here for a coffee and a quick bite. But even though the have limited selection, they generally do everything well. So Kwila is another small cafe. Now, a lot of these small cafes are starting to look the same and are quite forgettable. Yes, sometimes it is too much of a good thing - or one cafe is now starting to be like the other. So it is good to find the cafe that stands alone. Kwila is memorable for all the right reasons. Firstly, the staff here are cool. I think this is the greatest charm of this place. When I walked in, I thought that is wasn't special, but then one of the staff spoke to me. And yes, this place is cool. The coffee here is good - not great, but good. In other words, not the best coffee I've had, but I will come here again. The coffee here is strong and aromatic. And the Barista's know and love what they do. So if you are looking for a small place to go to, where you can get some friendly and laid back service this is the place for you.

These guys are the best! Hidden down a Surry Hills back alley with a cute interior and relaxed vibe (though they can get busy at coffee rush hour around 10am), they are super-friendly, super-ethical, super-delicious. Their savoury muffins are the bomb. Pro tip: take your own mug or keep cup for a 50c discount on your coffee.

Nice strong coffee and awesome staff. After a bad start to my day I was 10c short and the lovely lady let me get my caffeine fix anyway! Life saver. I'll be paying it forward...... No EFTPOS just FYI
