Hotel has a nice entrance and reception is reached via a lift to the 2nd floor. Check in staff are friendly and helpful.|We booked a triple room, grandma, mother and teenager. Unfortunately triple rooms are small end/corner rooms with very little space. Nowhere to put cases which need to be locked in a metal crate outside the room which is not ideal. On the plus side the beds are comfortable, towels are changed daily and bins emptied. As a family of three we found the space in the room a little tight but couples or single travelers would be ok. The convenience of this hotel and the general comfort out way the space issue if you can cope with it. |The little coffee shop across the road is a great place for breakfast and the Irish pub good for a night cap.

Much cleaner than other 3 star hotel. My skin is not allergic to the bed sheets at all! The room is slightly bigger and well designed than other hotel in Kyoto. A bit of walk from subway station. I didn’t order breakfast because there are plenty of choice around for much lower price

We got a dirty and smelly toilet. We asked the staff to take care of it, but they only did a quick and unhelpful clean. The toilet remained smelly throughout our stay

A really clean hotel in an ideal position; the rooms are well appointed if a little small, but the staff are so polite and helpful and the breakfast is excellent. A great choice to see the best of Kyoto.

The hotel is very clean and in a great location , train stop is 10 minutes walk and bus stop to Kyoto station is about 3 minutes walk from the hotel. There is a seven eleven just outside the hotel for groceries , coffee ice cream etc. The staff are extremely friendly and polite. There is an option to leave your luggage so you can have a walk around bag free on the day you check out. The rooms have a TV , power shower , fully functioning electronic toilet with Bidet and warm toilet seat. Their is air con in the rooms and an air purifier. The breakfast was delicious , it's a set menu and the taste and presentation were lovely. Highly recommend staying here. If you have any questions please feel free to ask any questions.

Hotel is well located in terms of metro station and more important bus station in front of door, as we did a lot by bus in Kyoto.|We booked excluding breakfast and organized breakfast via supermarkets around the corner. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom small but all what you need. The room itself was relatively big with even a desk and 2 chairs. Staff was super friendly and they offered us a free welcome drink. The police station is around d the corner, so if you have a very very light sleep, maybe not ideal.|Value for money was very good.

My husband and I had a great time in Kyoto Itoya hotel, the room was spacious compared with the Japanese room size and it was really clean. All the staff was really friendly, hardworking and very attentive to every detail. The breakfast was really good and tasty with different options. The hotel is located within walking distance 10 mins from the nearest metro station and there are plenty of restaurants nearby and a family market store. The only negative thing I would mention is that they don't clean your room briefly in a daily basis, if you don't stay more than a week. We stayed 4 nights, but they change your towels every day. Overall, we really recommend this hotel 😊

Being in Kyoto for a long stay, it was important to find a hotel close to transportation at a reasonable price. Kyoto Itoya Hotel exceeded our expectations! During our stay our room was clean with towels replaced daily. We appreciated the bathroom space with separate shower area (Japan style) and bath for relaxing after a long day of walking. The room is small but there was plenty of space. The bed was comfortable and the amenities as well as refrigerator were nice. There is no view which didnʻt matter to us. We also very much liked that the room was warm as Kyoto was chilly. To this review, weʻd like to add that the main desk staff was always helpful and ready to our questions. As we were there on the day of the recent earthquake in Ishikawa area, it was good that they could help our understanding of the news. We would also like to say that the folks who clean the rooms do an excellent job and in our interactions completely courteous and helpful. There is a breakfast and "lounge" area but we did not use it. If you are looking for a well-located, clean hotel central to transport with a positive staff, this might be the place for you.

Yelp
As hubby and I were only staying in Kyoto for two nights, we were trying to find something convenient, but nothing too expensive. That being said, this hotel did fit the requirements, but it is a very basic hotel with the necessary amenities. Amusingly, hubby thought that this hotel was right next to the JR station when it was actually around a mile away. It's okay, we needed the exercise to burn off the good food we'd be eating, but it didn't help that hubby had blisters on his feet, so this was a bit more of a challenge than originally anticipated. That being said, there truly are a few bus stations and another train station very close to this hotel; we were just trying to only use our JR pass and didn't want to hop onto another train/bus that wasn't owned by JR. When you get to the hotel, you actually need to get to the second floor to check in. They will provide you a key (it's a true key!), where you'll have to go back into the elevator to get to the correct floor to access your room. If you plan to leave the building, you must provide the hotel your key. I don't think there's really a way around it; the elevator seems to always stop at the second floor if you go down the elevator, even if you try and press on the first floor. But, yes, the key never leaves the building. The actual hotel room isn't too bad. I do like how the toilet is in a separate room from the actual shower/tub. The bed itself is decent, but there is only one pillow per person; so, if you're expecting extra plush, you're not getting it here. But, again, the hotel has all of the basic amenities needed and, besides, you should be spending a lot of your time outside of the hotel, not in it! Location-wise, it's situated between the JR station and a number of stores for shopping, cafes, arcades, etc. Kyoto isn't as bustling as Tokyo, but it can be very busy. We were in the area when Halloween was a weekday, and, while there was a number of people, we could browse shops without somehow getting into someone's way. Price-wise, decent for what we wanted. Again, basic amenities and fulfilled what we needed in a hotel. We may come back to this one if we're in the area, but we may want to try something else, as well. Nothing really pulling us to come back here except for familiarity.

Yelp
We booked a room with 2 single beds here, and was pleasantly surprised the room was big (compared to the Tokyo hotel we rented for about the same price), with plenty of space to walk and spread out luggage. The hotel is modern looking and the staff was extremely helpful. We were able to communicate fine with English. They had maps and instructions on how to get to all the popular attractions. Breakfast is not free, but you can pay 1000 yen for a Japanese style breakfast. I highly recommend it. It comes with soup, seafood, and vegetables. They also provide a voucher for a free coffee/tea at night. Free wifi is provided, and toiletries available. One hassle of the hotel is that the key must be turned in to the front desk whenever leaving the hotel. It's a bit of a walk to Kyoto Station, but it's not too bad. I'd probably consider this hotel again if I'm in Kyoto again.

Yelp
Rooms were above average in size. Cleaning crew was very good. Breakfast on main floor was good as well. Hotel has a weird rule about leaving hotel key at reception every time you leave, even if the person you are sharing the room with is still onsite in the hotel room, which means you have to interact with the staff a whole lot more than is otherwise necessary.

Yelp
HOTEL ITOYA when i booked this hotel, there were just 2 reviews on tripadvisor since it was new, but i am glad that i went with my instinct and reserved a room for 4 nights. this is a small, no frills hotel, but new, clean and inexpensive. *room - small, but the layout is great so it doesn't feel too tight - bathroom is awesome with bidet, separate shower and tub in japanese style - bed is hard and firm and pillows are awesome, but the sheets and linen are low quality - dark (and ugly view) because the narrow building is sandwiched between 2 tall buildings *location - between two subway stops and close to bus stations (the ones that go to and from JR Kyoto station are just 10 feet away) - very close to convenient stores - i wouldn't say the hotel is located in touristy places as we walked a lot and took public transportations all the time, but everything in kyoto is spread out. i don't think you can find a hotel that is closed to everything *service - very professional, communicative and friendly - the staff really made our visit to kyoto much more comfortable and delightful *facility/amenities - onsite cafe serving coffee, tea and breakfast only - no gym, no business center, no pool but complimentary wi-fi if i make another trip to kyoto, i'd stay at hotel itoya again.

Yelp
We had a fantastic stay at the Kyoto Itoya Hotel. Every staff member was incredibly kind and accommodating, especially for those who don't speak excellent Japanese. The rooms are definitely no frills, but they're very clean and excellent value for the price. We'd definitely stay again the next time we go to Kyoto!
